Chapter 64: Luo Qianyun: Embarrassed Beyond Belief
Luo Qianyun and Lu Yunzhen had planned to visit the snowy mountains today. However, their plans changed due to Luo Qianyun’s mushroom poisoning incident yesterday.
The pair found themselves in a charming Greek-inspired coastal town. With its white-walled, blue-domed houses, winding alleys, and stunning sea views, it was picturesque.
Dressed in a white dress adorned with blue floral patterns, Luo Qianyun strolled through the white alleys while Lu Yunzhen trailed behind with a camera in hand.
Snapshots of Luo Qianyun posing by the seaside white chapel, colorful alleys, and blue-roofed houses quickly filled their cameras. Occasionally, they even enlisted strangers to take photos of them together.
Each time Luo Qianyun saw the photos, she couldn’t help but smile. “We’re such a perfect match,” she said.
Her self-praise made Lu Yunzhen chuckle. “Feeling like trying some local specialties?” he asked.
“Of course!” Luo Qianyun eagerly agreed. After all, trips are meant for indulging in local flavors.
The two headed to a Greek-style restaurant. When dishes like grilled lamb skewers, pizza, Greek salad, and yogurt were served, it wasn’t quite what Luo Qianyun had imagined. Still, the flavors paired with the seaside view were a unique experience.
As they ate, Luo Qianyun received a call from Song Yunjing.
“Hello~”
“Qianqian, I’ve got good news!”
“What’s the good news?”
“Pei Xianxian fainted and was rushed to the hospital halfway through her variety show filming! Let me tell you, she looked so exhausted today, not even foundation could cover it. Watching her like that made my day!”
Luo Qianyun froze for a moment. “How did you know? Is it trending online?”
She couldn’t help but feel surprised.
For someone like Pei Xianxian, would fainting during filming really make it to the top of the trending list? After all, if it were a lower-ranked trend, Song Yunjing wouldn’t have noticed it.
“No need for trends; it’s on live stream!” Song Yunjing revealed, shocking Luo Qianyun.
“Live stream?” Luo Qianyun was stunned. “They live-stream variety show recordings now?”
“Yes, apparently, their show combines pre-recorded segments with occasional live streams during filming,” Song Yunjing explained. “Oh, by the way, I just saw someone in the live stream chat mention that yesterday someone got mushroom poisoning and started hallucinating. It sounded hilarious.”
“…” Luo Qianyun.
“What’s wrong, Qianqian? Where are you? I leave the country for a bit, and when I come back, you’re gone again. Which guy has whisked you away this time, abandoning your best friend?” Song Yunjing teased.
“No guy, just one person,” Luo Qianyun sighed. “I’m with Lu Yunzhen in Y City .”
“You’re in Y City too? Funny coincidence—Pei Xianxian is there as well,” Song Yunjing remarked.
Luo Qianyun replied, “Yeah, ran into her yesterday.”
“What are the odds! You two really are destined to be each other’s misfortune,” Song Yunjing said, amused.
The conversation went on, and Song Yunjing suddenly added, “Oh, it turns out Pei Xianxian’s hospital visit was scripted! I really thought something had happened. People are guessing it’s to set up for future events. Who knew she had such a packed schedule?”
Scripted? Luo Qianyun had her doubts. After all, Pei Xianxian likely spent the entire night at the hospital.
“Qianqian, bring me back some of those wild mushrooms that let you see little dancing people! I heard the hallucinations are amazing!” Song Yunjing was getting increasingly excited.
Luo Qianyun, recalling her own experience, warned, “Not necessarily dancing people. I didn’t see any.”
“You ate some? What did you see?” Song Yunjing was curious.
After some thought, Luo Qianyun replied, “The animal kingdom.”
“The animal kingdom? I heard someone saw a whole drama series, only to realize later there wasn’t even a TV. Was yours like that?”
“Mine was more surreal…” Luo Qianyun decided to deter her friend. “I saw people turning into animals. Lu Yunzhen had mushrooms growing on his head, and others spoke with subtitles. Oh, and Pei Xianxian turned into a giant white chicken in my eyes.”
“Pfft!” Song Yunjing couldn’t hold back her laughter. “Haha… So it was you! I saw someone in the live chat mention someone hallucinated Pei Xianxian as a giant chicken, argued with a dog, and even saw a crocodile in an apron!”
“Stop laughing,” Luo Qianyun said helplessly. “If you don’t, I’m not talking to you anymore.”
This finally worked, and Song Yunjing stifled her laughter. “What do I do? Now I want to try it even more. That hallucination world sounds amazing!”
“If you’re serious, come here and try it yourself. The hospitals here even have specialized departments for it,” Luo Qianyun relented.
After hanging up, Luo Qianyun’s expression fell.
“What’s wrong?” Lu Yunzhen offered her a lamb skewer.
Luo Qianyun took a bite and sighed, “I think I’ve embarrassed myself beyond repair…”
“How so?” Lu Yunzhen asked, nibbling on his skewer.
She recounted the previous day’s live-stream incident. “Now everyone’s seen my most awkward moments.”
“If you don’t like it, I’ll talk to the director and have that segment deleted,” Lu Yunzhen suggested comfortingly.
The idea seemed feasible, and Luo Qianyun nodded in agreement.
Later that afternoon, the director received a phone call…
Hanging up, the director looked devastated. With Pei Xianxian leaving halfway through filming, they already had limited footage of her. If yesterday’s scenes were also cut, there would be nothing left to show!
Deleting wasn’t an option, but he could arrange a workaround.
After a day of strolling, eating, and taking pictures in the town, it was finally time to leave.
Luo Qianyun felt reluctant. “Such a pity the vacation’s only two days. Otherwise, we could’ve stayed longer.”
“If you like it, we can come again next time,” Lu Yunzhen said.
“Easy for you to say. Have you forgotten? You’re going back to the military in a few days,” Luo Qianyun said, feeling the pang of separation.
Clinging to Lu Yunzhen’s hand, she tugged lightly. “I’ll miss you so much… What do I do…”
“I’ll miss you too,” Lu Yunzhen whispered, pulling her into his embrace and breathing in her scent.
As she hugged him tightly, Luo Qianyun couldn’t help but feel the pain of his impending departure.
