Chapter 65: Not Planning to Take Responsibility for Me?
When she got home, Luo Qianyun immediately noticed Xiao Yunduo.
“Xiao Yunduo, Daddy and Mommy are home~” Luo Qianyun crouched down and opened her arms to the little one.
Seeing this, Xiao Yunduo toddled over on her tiny legs.
Holding the little one, Luo Qianyun sat on the sofa and couldn’t resist kissing her a couple of times. “Our Xiao Yunduo is so adorable~”
As she doted on her child, Luo Qianyun glanced at Lu Yunzhen, who was sorting out the souvenirs—an entire suitcase full of them.
“Who are all these for? It seems like you planned everything before buying them,” Luo Qianyun asked curiously.
She had noticed Lu Yunzhen being very precise about the quantities needed when shopping for the souvenirs. She, on the other hand, would have had to take her time calculating.
Seeing her curiosity, Lu Yunzhen explained, “These Pu’er tea and matsutake mushrooms are for your teacher and my parents. The flower cakes and wild mushrooms are for Luo Qi and Song Yunjing. The ham is for my sister, and the Pu’er coffee is for Yaya and the others.”
“And what about this portion?” Luo Qianyun pointed to the untouched set.
“These matsutake mushrooms are for you. Whether you make soup or use them otherwise, they’re great,” Lu Yunzhen replied.
Noticing that he had even considered her but hadn’t prepared anything for himself, Luo Qianyun said, “Aren’t you planning to bring anything back for your teammates?”
“We don’t do this in the military; we have a canteen,” Lu Yunzhen said matter-of-factly.
Luo Qianyun thought for a moment and suggested, “Why not take some flower cakes back with you?”
“To a group of men? You want them to eat sweets?” Lu Yunzhen replied helplessly.
“Then take some wild mushrooms. Didn’t we have an extra portion? Returning from leave empty-handed doesn’t seem right,” Luo Qianyun insisted.
“Alright, then I’ll tell them it was their sister-in-law’s idea,” Lu Yunzhen said.
Luo Qianyun couldn’t help but laugh, but she still retorted, “Stop joking. I’m not their sister-in-law.”
Lu Yunzhen grabbed her hand and gently but firmly pulled her into his lap. “If you don’t become their sister-in-law, what am I supposed to do?”
“What are you supposed to do? That’s not my problem,” Luo Qianyun muttered softly.
“So you’re not planning to take responsibility for me?” Lu Yunzhen whispered.
Luo Qianyun avoided his gaze. “I didn’t do anything to you… What am I supposed to take responsibility for?”
In the next second, she felt her hand grow warm.
Lu Yunzhen had placed her hand on his abs. “Take responsibility. Go ahead and touch all you want.”
“Don’t make me sound like some kind of pervert,” Luo Qianyun replied seriously, though her hand had already wandered across his abs a few times.
Lu Yunzhen couldn’t help but laugh…
The next morning, while dropping Luo Qianyun off at work, Lu Yunzhen also delivered the flower cakes and wild mushrooms for Luo Qi.
Seeing the flower cakes, Luo Qi’s eyes lit up. He even generously shared one, which was rare for him when the quantity was so exact.
After Luo Qianyun went to work, Lu Yunzhen stayed a bit longer in Luo Qi’s hospital room.
“Big Brother,” Lu Yunzhen said.
Hearing this, Luo Qi turned his gaze to him, curiosity evident in his eyes as he ate his snack, too busy to speak.
“Do you want to protect Qianqian?” Lu Yunzhen asked softly.
Hearing this, Luo Qi nodded emphatically. “I will definitely protect my sister!”
Switching topics, Lu Yunzhen asked, “Where’s your phone?”
Although he didn’t know what for, Luo Qi handed over his phone, reminding him, “I’m in the middle of a level on Candy Crush. If you’re going to play, wait until I’m done.”
“Don’t worry, I’m not playing your game,” Lu Yunzhen said, minimizing the app and entering two numbers into the phone.
Curious, Luo Qi asked, “Are these phone numbers?”
“Yes. If anyone bullies Qianqian, call me,” Lu Yunzhen instructed.
“If this number doesn’t answer, call the second one,” he added, emphasizing the second number.
“So you have two phones?” Luo Qi asked enviously.
“This phone isn’t mine, but it will take care of such matters. Just call if anyone bullies Qianqian,” Lu Yunzhen reassured him.
Luo Qi nodded. “Does having two phones mean you can watch cartoons on one and play games on the other?”
Faced with his innocence, Lu Yunzhen laughed. “Next time I visit, how about I give you a phone?”
Luo Qi’s eyes lit up, but he quickly looked downcast. “Better not. Mom would get mad.”
“Then don’t tell her. It can be our secret,” Lu Yunzhen said.
“A secret?” Luo Qi imagined himself watching cartoons and playing games at the same time, unable to hide his excitement. “Alright~”
“Then I’ll leave Qianqian’s protection to you,” Lu Yunzhen said.
“Where are you going? Aren’t you my brother-in-law? Shouldn’t you always be with my sister?” Luo Qi asked, confusion evident in his series of questions.
“Even if we’re together for a lifetime, there are times we have to be apart. I have my responsibilities,” Lu Yunzhen said, though he knew Luo Qi wouldn’t understand.
Sure enough, Luo Qi looked bewildered but still had his own idea. “Are you going to earn money to support the family? When we were kids, Mom and Dad would leave to work, leaving me and my sister to play at home.”
“Yes, you could think of it like that,” Lu Yunzhen replied.
“Then go ahead. Leave protecting my sister to me,” Luo Qi said, patting his chest in assurance.
That afternoon, Luo Qianyun was busy in her clinic, attending to patients. Between appointments, a knock came at the door.
When she opened it slightly, a familiar face appeared.
Seeing her, Lu Wentao immediately pushed the door open and entered. “Auntie Qian.”
“Wentao? What are you doing here?” Luo Qianyun asked in surprise at seeing Lu Wentao, the son of Lu Yunzhen’s second sister.
Carrying a small suitcase, Lu Wentao explained, “I happened to be here on a business trip, and Grandma asked me to bring something for you and Uncle.”
“What kind of thing needs a suitcase?” Luo Qianyun asked, puzzled. The suitcase didn’t seem like it was holding just souvenirs.
“I don’t know either. Auntie, you can check it later,” Lu Wentao replied.
“Alright,” Luo Qianyun said. “By the way, Yunzhen and I brought some specialties back from City Y. Call him later to see if there’s anything convenient for you to take back.”
“Got it. I won’t disturb your work anymore, Auntie,” Lu Wentao said politely. Then, as if remembering something, he placed a cup of milk tea on her desk. “I brought this for you. You carry on.”
Luo Qianyun smiled as she watched him leave. As for the suitcase, she decided to set it aside for the time being.
Shortly after Lu Wentao left, as Luo Qianyun came out of the restroom, a group of young nurses surrounded her.
One of them teased, “Dr. Luo, you’re so lucky. Not only do you have a handsome boyfriend, but now you even have other handsome men chasing you!”
