Chapter 73: What Do You See in Me?
Luo Qianyun nearly choked on her friend’s words, with so many people around.
“I just sat too long and my legs fell asleep, what were you thinking?” Luo Qianyun said with a flushed face, clearly embarrassed.
Song Yunjing, realizing others were eavesdropping, lowered her voice and smirked, “Sat too long? Sounds pretty intense…”
“I have a feeling that the ‘do’ you’re talking about isn’t the same as the ‘sit’ I meant,” Luo Qianyun said.
“I thought you two were making rapid progress!” Song Yunjing lamented.
“…Sister, if there were anything going on, how much of it would we have accomplished by now?” Luo Qianyun sighed, clearly frustrated.
Although it was the truth, Song Yunjing still shook her head with regret.
When Ruan Jianfeng returned to the team, he immediately received an order to go out on a mission again. He never expected to be tricked by Lu Yunzheng.
“I hope that next time, Captain Lu will consider his partners when making plans, instead of treating them like pawns,” Ruan Jianfeng said coldly, facing Lu Yunzheng.
“It’s all for the capture operation. I hope Captain Ruan can understand,” Lu Yunzheng replied calmly.
“Does Captain Lu think that only your special forces are capable of catching people? Do you think everyone else is useless?” Ruan Jianfeng’s words caused his team to glare angrily at Lu Yunzheng.
But Lu Yunzheng remained unfazed by the glares. “Captain Ruan doesn’t need to deliberately escalate our differences. Later, someone will explain this to you.”
Having said that, Lu Yunzheng couldn’t be bothered to waste more time explaining and walked off.
Ruan Jianfeng’s team members were angry, but they could only grumble.
When Lu Yunzheng arrived, Luo Qianyun was talking with Song Yunjing.
“I’ll have someone take you home first,” Lu Yunzheng said as he walked over.
Luo Qianyun subconsciously asked, “What about you?”
“I need to go back to the station. It’ll probably be past 10 PM before I’m done,” Lu Yunzheng replied.
“Well, if I go with you, will I be a bother?” Luo Qianyun asked.
“It wouldn’t be a bother, but it might be a bit late,” Lu Yunzheng said.
“It’s fine. It’s only 10 PM, not the middle of the night. Sometimes I stay up late when I’m busy too,” Luo Qianyun said.
Seeing that she wasn’t opposed, Lu Yunzheng didn’t refuse.
As for Song Yunjing, there was no need for them to worry. She had a bunch of bodyguards with her, so she didn’t need to worry about getting home.
Back at the team, Ruan Jianfeng and his team were just returning when members of the armed police security department approached him.
“We’re from the security department. Ruan Jianfeng, come with us.”
The third team was left in confusion, not knowing what was going on.
Ruan Jianfeng didn’t seem surprised by this development. For some reason, he felt a sense of relief and calmly followed without saying anything.
The team members wanted to ask questions, but no one answered.
Outside the police station, Luo Qianyun sat in the car. Bai Minghui, in the driver’s seat, handed her a bag of snacks. “Sister-in-law, these are snacks the captain bought for you. He said you could snack while you wait. He’ll be out soon.”
Luo Qianyun opened a bag of chips and started eating. “Minghui, why has your captain been in there so long?”
“Probably handling some business,” Bai Minghui replied.
While Luo Qianyun was munching on chips, she suddenly felt Bai Minghui staring at her. “What’s up?”
Realizing he’d been caught, Bai Minghui turned to her and said, “Sister-in-law, can I ask you a question?”
“Go ahead,” Luo Qianyun replied.
“What do you see in our captain?” Bai Minghui asked, curious.
“He’s handsome, has a good figure, and a nice temperament. Why wouldn’t I like him? Or maybe you should ask your captain what he sees in me,” Luo Qianyun smiled.
“I know what it is,” Bai Minghui replied.
Luo Qianyun raised an eyebrow. “What do you know?”
Bai Minghui said, “I know what attracted the captain to you.”
Intrigued, Luo Qianyun dusted off her hands. “So, what is it? Is it my looks, my figure, or my temperament?”
Bai Minghui couldn’t help but laugh. “Honestly, sister-in-law, when I first met you, your face was pretty dirty. No matter how good-looking you are, it was a little diminished.”
“That’s true,” Luo Qianyun admitted, not denying it.
“And as for your figure, at the time you weren’t wearing anything that showed it off,” Bai Minghui added tactfully.
“…” Luo Qianyun had no retort for that. After all, she had been wearing a combat jacket, not a little dress.
“As for your temperament…” Bai Minghui coughed lightly. “The captain said you were very wary at first. When he got close, you almost tried to stab him with a knife.”
“I was just instinctively trying to defend myself, not trying to stab him,” Luo Qianyun said, her lips twitching. After all, Lu Yunzheng was the kind of person who could fight off a wolf with his bare hands, so it was crazy for her to challenge him.
If she lost, her life might have been at risk.
However, hearing what Bai Minghui said, Luo Qianyun realized that Lu Yunzheng wasn’t attracted to her based on those three aspects. “So, what did he see in me?”
“This is something we asked the captain too,” Bai Minghui said quietly, even though there were only the two of them in the car, he still made it sound mysterious.
Luo Qianyun, eager for the answer, listened closely.
“The captain said that he was attracted to you as a person. What drew him in initially was the feeling you gave him,” Bai Minghui said.
“That sounds pretty mystical,” Luo Qianyun said, taking another bite of her chips. She noticed Lu Yunzheng coming out of the police station, but he wasn’t alone.
The light was dim at night, and after squinting for a moment, Luo Qianyun said, “Minghui, is that person next to your captain one of the guys from the gang we caught earlier?”
When they arrested the gang leader, Luo Qianyun had seen the men who were taken along with him.
“That’s him,” Bai Minghui confirmed, recognizing the man.
Both of them weren’t stupid. After a moment of thought, they guessed the identity of the person.
Meanwhile, Lu Yunzheng was escorting Chen Wei out of the police station.
“What are you planning to do next?” Lu Yunzheng asked.
“I’ll accompany my grandmother on her final journey, and then…,” Chen Wei’s eyes showed a trace of confusion, “I guess I’ll just travel around, maybe figure out what I really want to do.”
Chen Wei looked at Lu Yunzheng. “Thanks, Captain Lu. If it weren’t for you, I wouldn’t have made it out tonight.”
“I promised you,” Lu Yunzheng replied, looking at Chen Wei. “When you retired, you said it was due to health reasons, and after that, you stopped contacting anyone. Now that you’ve redeemed yourself, don’t stay trapped in these matters after everything ends.”
“I hope so…” Chen Wei replied, still unsure if he could really move on.
