Chapter 10
As soon as Lin Qi stepped out of the study, he saw someone darting around the rooftop like a monkey. Without needing to think, he knew exactly who it was.
Seeing his son staring at the rooftop, Minister Lin followed his gaze, though his eyesight wasn’t as sharp. He couldn’t clearly make out what was on the roof, but from the movements, it seemed like a monkey.
“When did we get a monkey? Why is there one dancing on the roof?” Minister Lin even rubbed his eyes, thinking he must have been seeing things.
Lin Qi paused for a moment and then said, “That’s not a monkey; it’s your daughter.”
Minister Lin’s first thought was of Lin Ran, assuming she was on the roof enjoying the moonlight and composing poetry.
“Ran’er? Is she up there appreciating the moon and writing poetry?”
Lin Ran had indeed enjoyed doing that in the past, though with far more grace. After all, Lin Ran was truly a poetic young lady.
Lin Qi looked at his father with some exasperation. “Look at the movements and the posture. Do you really think Ran’er would move like that? That’s Mo’er—she’s up there frolicking on the roof!”
Minister Lin was shocked. “What is she up to now!”
You couldn’t really blame Minister Lin for his reaction; after all, Lin Mo had never done anything properly or seriously before.
“I have to go check on her. What’s she doing up on the roof in the middle of the night? What if she falls!”
Unaware of her father’s concern, Lin Mo was happily sipping a cup of wine. She even felt inspired and composed a poem.
“Ah! Moon! You’re so beautiful! You’re as beautiful as a big pancake! You look so delicious!”
The system: …
Everyone below: …
Lin Mo was so pleased with herself that she asked the system, “What do you think? Not bad, right? I’m an experiential, life-inspired poet.”
The system was silent for a moment. “As long as you’re happy.”
When Minister Lin and Lin Qi arrived, they heard her poem. Minister Lin sighed deeply, thinking that if she lacked poetic talent, she shouldn’t flaunt it.
Lin Qi was silent, feeling a mix of emotions. If what Lin Mo composed was considered poetry, then what had he been writing all this time?
Thankfully, this girl didn’t need to take the imperial exams. With her level of talent, she would have made the examiners die laughing.
Seeing Lin Mo becoming increasingly wild, the system quickly warned her, “Your brother and father are here. You should come down.”
Lin Mo: “No! I need to show them my literary talent! Anyway, there’s no court tomorrow! I have three days off!”
The real reason she was so happy was because she could sleep in tomorrow, allowing her to temporarily return to her previous lifestyle.
“Father! Brother! I’ll compose a poem for you two!”
The Lin father and son suddenly had a bad feeling. “No need! Just save your talent for another time!”
But they were too late. Lin Mo gleefully said, “Your heads are so round, like big leather balls!”
The Lin father and son: …
“Pfft!” A maid almost burst out laughing.
Not far away, the hidden guards were struggling to hold back their laughter. They had initially thought this assignment was a waste of their skills, but it turned out to be quite entertaining.
“Hurry, write this down. The emperor needs to hear this.”
By now, Lin Mo was completely drunk, swaying on the roof, causing everyone’s hearts to sway with her.
Lady Lin and Lin Ran also arrived, sighing simultaneously as they saw Lin Mo on the roof.
“Quick, find a way to get her down. If she falls, she’ll either break an arm or a leg.”
Minister Lin replied wistfully, “You think I don’t want to get her down? But do you think she’s listening to me right now?”
Lin Mo loudly responded from above, “I can hear you! Speak up!”
The people on the ground: … Well, it looks like she’s really drunk.
“Come on, let me dance for you all,” Lin Mo suddenly remembered the moonlit solo dances she often saw in dramas. Now, she felt she could do it too!
“No!” Amid the crowd’s gasps, Lin Mo suddenly slipped and fell. Fortunately, her belt caught on a beam, leaving her dangling there.
Even in such a precarious situation, she foolishly giggled, “Hehe, I’m swinging!”
Lady Lin almost fainted from the scare, clutching her heart. This troublesome girl was going to be the death of her!
The system was also startled, exclaiming, “Oh my God, oh my God! If you’re determined to get yourself killed, please don’t drag me into it! I’m a newly-born system—I haven’t lived enough yet!”
Lin Mo patted her belt and sighed, “This thing is holding me back. Otherwise, I’d show you all a flying dance!”
The people below: …
“Oh, you want to fly, do you? Let’s see if I let you fly!”
Lin Qi finally had enough. He leaped up, grabbed her, and brought her down. He hadn’t dared to act earlier for fear she might fall, but now he had no such concerns.
Soon after, cries of pain echoed through the night as Lin Mo endured a thorough scolding and a spanking from all four family members—father, mother, brother, and sister. It was a complete family affair.
The hidden guards in the shadows whispered, “Ouch! That’s brutal! Just too brutal!”
When the emperor heard about this in the middle of the night, he nearly laughed himself off his bed.
“Oh my! This is just too funny! The Lin family certainly has a lively life with Lin Mo around!”
“I never knew you could compose poetry like that, or that dancing involved jumping off rooftops. And performing ‘flying’—she’s killing me with laughter!”
The emperor was laughing so hard that even his usual formal tone had disappeared.
“Let everyone hear about this! It’s a good way to lighten things up. Since there’s no court for the next three days, people might be bored at home. This story should cheer them up.”
You had to admit, the emperor was quite mischievous.
That night, bursts of laughter echoed through the homes of officials, and their understanding of Lin Mo reached a new level.
The next morning, when Lin Mo woke up, she was still in a daze. The system looked at her blank expression, sighed, and said, “Do you remember what happened last night? You almost lost your life playing around!”
“I wanted to enjoy gossip with you, not make you the subject of everyone else’s gossip!”
Lin Mo groaned and pulled the covers over her head. “Why didn’t you warn me? This is so embarrassing!”
The system replied, “Didn’t I? I started warning you as soon as you began drinking. When your parents arrived, I reminded you again, but you just got more and more excited.”
