Zhao Ling had known Wen Yi for six years. The first time she saw her, she thought Wen Yi was not a good person, especially those almond-shaped eyes, with clear pupils, always sparkling with a hint of spring, like a fox tempting people.
So, if she could easily sleep with someone, she wouldn’t be just a regional manager today; she could even be the general manager of Shencheng.
She wanted to gossip more, but unfortunately, she was called to the ward and had to let Wen Yi go, “Contact me later, you have to explain everything to me.”
Wen Yi came to the hospital today to maintain client relationships. These things didn’t actually require her attention anymore, but after reaching this position, she started to enjoy the work content that was most annoying when she first started, walking around the hospital, chatting with any young doctor she could find, how relaxing.
After receiving the call, she lost the mood to visit doctors and went to the coffee shop early.
When ordering, she suddenly remembered the little tenant in her belly. Although the stay might be short, it was still her precious guest, so she asked the server, “Can pregnant women drink coffee?”
The server was a young girl, perhaps being asked this question for the first time, and nervously said she didn’t know. She then looked it up on her phone and told Wen Yi, “Sister, it says online that pregnant women can’t drink coffee.”
Wen Yi was disappointed, “Then do you have hot water? Give me a glass.”
“Yes, yes.”
“Thank you.”
She didn’t have to wait long before a familiar figure appeared outside the transparent glass window. The hospital entrance was not a good place to park, so he probably had to walk quite a distance.
Wen Yi had spent the past two days trying to recall memories from ten years ago. At this moment, the figure matched her memories: steady steps, focused gaze, unaffected by the surrounding noise, as if in his world, walking was just walking, and doing other things at the same time was a crime.
The eighteen-year-old Qin Nanshan was quiet and only immersed in his world of mathematics. The eighteen-year-old Wen Yi was already socially adept and had been named the “social butterfly” many times. They were completely different types of people, each moving forward on their own paths, but unexpectedly, they met at a certain crossroads and had an intersection.
The bell at the coffee shop door rang clearly, and in the blink of an eye, he was sitting in front of her.
The atmosphere that night in the hotel was dark and urgent. Last night at his door, she was preoccupied with other things. Now, sitting face to face, Wen Yi finally had the chance to carefully observe the man in front of her.
The twenty-eight-year-old Qin Nanshan had shed his youthful immaturity and replaced it with the steadiness of a mature man. His features were superior, with a hint of warmth in his hardness. His eyes were as dark as the sea, making it impossible to discern the emotions within, adding a touch of mysterious allure.
He sat upright, his suit and shirt neatly pressed and spotless, with a Windsor knot on his tie.
Previously, there was an old doctor at the First Affiliated Hospital who was very particular about his lifestyle. He said that a man’s clothing represented his taste, standards, and temperament.
Wen Yi agreed with this. Based on her experience with the medical community, some people were sloppy after work, wearing the same jacket repeatedly, while others were always dressed in suits, always neat and presentable no matter when or where they were seen. The same profession gave people different impressions.
Wen Yi had specifically studied various types of suit materials and tie knot styles to get closer to the old doctor. She even bought a tie to practice. The Windsor knot was the most complex and formal, with a full and powerful triangular shape, considered by English gentlemen as a symbol of beauty and romance.
Wen Yi was slightly surprised in her heart and looked up to meet the man’s clear gaze.
It was much calmer and more determined than that night, just like his steps, steadfastly moving forward like a horse with a clear goal.
After a long time, Wen Yi looked away, pushed the menu on the table towards him, “What would you like to drink?”
The man politely declined, “Thank you, I don’t drink coffee.”
Wen Yi’s eyes twitched, and the bit of goodwill she had just built up collapsed instantly. She took back the menu and ordered a glass of water for him from the young server. Then she sat quietly, waiting for him to speak first.
He, however, was much calmer and waited until the server brought the water and left before slowly taking a sip and saying, “Wen Yi, I formally apologize to you.”
Wen Yi looked at her watch, two minutes, he took two minutes to prepare this sentence.
“That night, I was drunk after being forced to drink two glasses of wine by Teacher Wu, and I wasn’t fully conscious. Of course, being drunk is not an excuse for my actions towards you,”
Wen Yi quickly interrupted, “It wasn’t to the point of assault, it was consensual.”
Qin Nanshan’s eyes narrowed slightly, not responding to this, and then took another sip of water, his Adam’s apple slightly moving.
This was the first time they discussed that night. Wen Yi’s thoughts turned, and she incredulously widened her eyes, “What, you didn’t want to?”
Damn, so she still forced him?
Wen Yi was amused and angry, wanting to leave.
Qin Nanshan looked at her and seriously said, “I didn’t not want to, that night wasn’t an accident, you had your reasons, and I should have refused, but I didn’t control myself well, so I apologize to you.”
“Regarding the child, I also apologize for what I said last night. This is indeed an unexpected situation for me, and I couldn’t make a correct and rational response in just a few minutes.”
“If you still decide not to keep the child after careful consideration, I respect your decision. I am willing to compensate for the medical expenses and any emotional damage.”
“……”
Wen Yi felt as if she were in a courtroom, with him as the judge, reading the verdict on the responsibilities and follow-up measures for the unexpected pregnancy after a one-night stand. It was too funny.
The transparent glass of warm water gradually emptied, and silence spread. The surrounding noise was like background music in a movie, distant and blurred.
He seemed to be thinking, and when he spoke again, his tone was solemn, “But Wen Yi, out of the world’s eight billion people, the probability of two people meeting is about 0.00365. The probability of knowing each other, loving each other, and having a sexual relationship is extremely low. And the probability of getting pregnant despite using contraception is 0.02. So, this life coming to us is already a miracle of probability.”
“I hope you can consider it again. If the child is born, I can raise him, including providing financial support and fatherly love.”
As he said, Wen Yi couldn’t immediately respond.
She had even decided half an hour ago not to keep this unexpected little tenant, but he came here to discuss mathematics problems and probabilities with her, persuading her to keep the child.
Setting aside the issue of Mrs. Wen Hongyu and her career, there were still many problems between her and Qin Nanshan that needed to be resolved.
She might not like him and might not need love, but if her child were born, he must have a father and a family.
Wen Yi stared into his eyes, her hands clenched under the table, and said word by word, “Qin Nanshan, I don’t want money. The condition for keeping this child is, we, get married.”
