Wen Yi suddenly felt a little dazed… it seemed like she hadn’t properly looked at him in a week… he seemed a little unfamiliar.
A strange feeling surged within her mind. The person on stage was my husband. How amazing. Who would’ve thought that, on a Friday night when she should have been indulging herself, she would actually be here attending a math lecture?
As Qin Nanshan began speaking, the applause grew louder, and the students’ high-pitched shouts echoed, filled with fervor, like a fan meeting.
Wen Yi leaned over and whispered to Qin Tan, “Are all the students here this enthusiastic?”
Qin Tan replied, “It’s not just that, it’s because of my cousin… I mean, Brother Nanshan.”
“He’s that popular?”
“Yeah, last semester, Brother Nanshan offered an elective course on advanced mathematics, and it was so popular that the system crashed from too many students trying to sign up. But, the pass rate was only 40%.”
Wen Yi chuckled and looked up at the stage.
Qin Nanshan had already taken his seat, and the PowerPoint presentation in the center of the stage showed a simple, plain cover with the school logo, the lecture title, and the name: Qin Nanshan.
The auditorium’s sound system was excellent, and his deep and pleasant voice filled the air: “Hello everyone, I’m Qin Nanshan.”
“Today, I will be sharing about Mathematics and Life. If you think back, what aspects of life are related to mathematics?”
There was a flurry of answers from the audience, some mentioning buying groceries or paying bills. On stage, the man smiled, “That’s right. In fact, from the moment you wake up, wash up, eat breakfast, and leave your home, you’ve already used the six most impactful equations in mathematics…”
After hearing a few sentences, Wen Yi suddenly understood why he was so popular.
His looks were only an added bonus. It was his steady, wise aura on stage and the knowledge he effortlessly shared that really attracted people. He was like a snow pine gently swaying in the wind, exuding a quiet, deep aura. He didn’t wait for anyone, but passersby couldn’t help but stop and look.
As the lecture progressed, with more specialized knowledge shared, this snow pine-like aura filled the small auditorium, leaving everyone holding their breath.
Wen Yi noticed that the person sitting next to her had changed. It was an older man, probably also a teacher. She turned her head and met his gaze.
The old teacher smiled slightly and spoke first, “You don’t look like a student from our school.”
“That’s right, I’m not,” Wen Yi replied. She felt a bit uneasy under his gaze but couldn’t pinpoint why. “Who are you?”
The old teacher glanced at the stage and answered off-topic, “Is he your…?”
Wen Yi found it even stranger. She answered, “He’s my husband.”
The old teacher smiled knowingly. Qin Nanshan had married earlier that year, but due to family matters, he couldn’t attend the wedding. He had only seen photos of the bride shared by the students. The old teacher had felt the girl sitting next to him looked familiar, and it turned out to be her.
He pointed to Qin Nanshan on stage and proudly said, “That’s my student.”
Wen Yi was surprised, “You’re Professor Chen?”
“Did this rascal mention me to you?”
Actually, there wasn’t much said. The wedding was supposed to have Professor Chen as the witness, and Qin Nanshan had made two calls in front of her, but Wen Yi, being sweet-talking, said, “Of course, you’re someone he greatly admires. He often mentions you. He regretted not having you at the wedding for a long time.”
When Professor Chen heard this, he couldn’t help but smile. It was surprising to him that Qin Nanshan, with his personality, would talk about himself in front of his wife. When he looked at Wen Yi more closely, he thought that while his student might not be all that, his wife was quite impressive.
Professor Chen asked, “Were you high school classmates?”
Wen Yi was surprised again. “You know?”
Professor Chen smiled lightly. “Yes, he said he liked you a lot and pursued you for half a year.”
“…” Hearing this story again now, Wen Yi felt so embarrassed that she wanted to dig a hole to hide in. She could only pretend to be shy and try to brush it off.
Qin Nanshan was reserved, and Professor Chen had once worried that he might end up spending his life with math. His marriage and children were unexpected to him. Professor Chen spoke more seriously, “Nanshan is stubborn. Once he decides something, he won’t regret it. When he does something, he always wants to see a result. His choice to marry you, must have been carefully considered.”
“Young lady, people who study math are reliable in relationships, because they spend their whole life studying existence and uniqueness,” Professor Chen added, his words carrying a clear intention. “If he makes you unhappy, please be understanding. This rascal is clumsy with his words, not good at comforting people, but his feelings for you are definitely real.”
Wen Yi was stunned by Professor Chen’s words. She dumbly nodded, “I understand.”
As the lecture gradually neared its end, the applause became once again thunderous.
Next was the Q&A session. As soon as the host finished speaking, the scene became chaotic, with boys and girls asking questions one after another. The host had a hard time maintaining order.
The first two questions were academic and relatively serious, but the third one took a different turn: “Professor Qin, I heard that you’re married, is that true?”
The room went silent.
After a moment, a calm reply came through the speakers: “Yes.”
“Can you share your dating story with us?” The girl asking the question spoke clearly, with confidence. “As college students, it’s easy to get sidetracked in relationships. Professor Qin, what do you think we should do to have a good relationship?”
Qin Tan and Professor Chen both looked toward Wen Yi.
Wen Yi felt a mixture of emotions and was mortified. What could be more awkward than sitting in the audience while listening to her “plastic” husband make up a love story!
But Qin Nanshan was no ordinary person. He didn’t make anything up. His voice, even through the microphone, carried a low, amused chuckle, “Well, my wife is also here. She’s the most important character in the story. How about I let her share with everyone?”
Wen Yi: “???”
!!! What is going on here!!!
The room erupted in a roar. Professor Qin’s wife was actually in the audience! This was public display of affection!!
