Wen Yi suddenly felt nauseous after eating something and rushed to the bathroom. She leaned over the toilet and vomited everything she had just eaten. After vomiting, she still felt incredibly nauseous and clutched her chest.
“Are you feeling very uncomfortable?” The man crouched behind her and handed her a tissue.
Wen Yi couldn’t speak and just nodded. She tried to stand up but felt dizzy again. Qin Nanshan caught her in time and helped her out of the bathroom, laying her down on the bed and covering her with a blanket. He then placed the trash can next to the bed.
Wen Yi recovered a bit and asked for water. “Can you get me a bottle of water?”
The water was a complimentary gift from the hotel, placed on the table where they had eaten earlier. Qin Nanshan brought it over, opened it for her, and waited for her to take a few sips before taking the bottle back and screwing the cap back on.
“Do you need something lighter to eat? I can order some porridge for you.”
“No need, don’t bother. I’ll just throw up anything I eat.”
The man’s brow furrowed. Wen Yi said, “I’m fine. You should go back. I’ll talk to my mom tomorrow when I get home. I’ll let you know when we can meet.” She then remembered something. “Let’s add each other on WeChat. It’ll be more convenient.”
Qin Nanshan was taken aback. They indeed didn’t have a proper way to contact each other.
That night, after they were done, both of them were exhausted and fell asleep. In the middle of the night, around one or two o’clock, the person next to him woke up, quietly got dressed, and left without intending to let him take responsibility.
A one-night stand between adults was best ended cleanly. His indecision lasted from the moment she woke up until she left, and the soft sound of the door closing signaled the end of that night.
Qin Nanshan took out his phone, added her on WeChat, and then asked, “Do you vomit everything you eat? How can your body handle this? Do you live alone?”
Wen Yi smiled slightly and joked, “What, are you going to take care of me?”
He shook his head and said seriously, “I have to teach classes, and I have administrative and research work. I can come over to take care of you when I’m free, but I can’t be there every day. If you don’t mind, you can go to my parents’ house. They should be happy to help, but I think since you’re not familiar with them yet, we can hire an experienced nanny to cook for you. What do you think?”
She had made a joke, and he responded with a serious discussion. Wen Yi found it boring and looked listless. “Not great. I’m not at the point where I need someone to take care of me. I still have work to do. Morning sickness usually ends around the 12th week. I’ll be fine by then.”
Qin Nanshan stood by the bed and sighed softly.
Wen Yi heard it and was annoyed. “Why are you sighing? I’m the one being tormented.”
He said, “Let’s get married sooner. I’ll take care of you.”
Wen Yi looked at him for a moment and then closed her eyes without saying anything.
The air became quiet again.
He stood there, fiddling with his phone for a while, and then sat down on the edge of the bed. “Is there anywhere else you feel uncomfortable?”
Wen Yi said, “My chest hurts, it’s swollen and painful.”
Qin Nanshan visibly hesitated and even asked, “Where?”
“My chest! The place you touched!”
The man’s face turned slightly red, and he paused again. This time, the pause was quite long. Wen Yi looked at him, thinking he had run out of things to say. She snorted, “So, knowing where it hurts doesn’t help you. You can’t help me. In a marriage, women suffer the most, going through pregnancy, childbirth, and raising children. Men just enjoy the benefits. Some can’t even control themselves and cheat. It’s really despicable.”
“You can’t generalize like that.”
“Isn’t it true? You men are just animals driven by your lower halves. Once you take off your pants, anyone can have you.”
“……Wen Yi, I apologize again for what happened that night.”
“I wasn’t talking about that night.” But mentioning it reminded Wen Yi of something. “You said you were drunk. So, you knew it was me, right?”
Qin Nanshan felt a bit of a headache. “Aren’t you asking this a bit late?”
Wen Yi pouted. “See, I was right. Anyone can have you.”
“If I remember correctly, you were the one who made the first move with your hands and mouth.”
“……” Wen Yi stubbornly said, “You carried me to the bed and pressed me down without caring who made the first move.”
Qin Nanshan refused to discuss this further. He thought the person in front of him hadn’t changed at all, still wanting to win every argument. Knowing he couldn’t outtalk her, he changed the subject. “How bad is the pain? Do you need to see a doctor?”
Wen Yi smiled and said, “It hurts more than when you pressed on it that night.”
The man suddenly stood up, his face darkening. “I ordered porridge for you. I’ll go see why it’s taking so long.”
With that, he strode away and left the room.
Wen Yi watched the door close mercilessly and twitched her mouth.
Boring.
About ten minutes later, the doorbell rang. Wen Yi got out of bed to open the door.
Qin Nanshan cleaned up the previous dishes and opened the porridge. “Try it. If you don’t vomit, eat more.”
The little tenant might be asleep, as Wen Yi managed to eat a bowl of porridge without any issues. After finishing, she rubbed her belly and asked, “Aren’t you going back?”
Qin Nanshan collected the bowls and chopsticks and casually replied, “Tomorrow is Saturday. I’ll stay.”
“Ah? But this is a room with a big bed. Are you going to sleep with me?”
Qin Nanshan’s dark eyes showed a rare hint of emotion as he glanced at her. “I just booked a room downstairs. What time do you finish tomorrow? I’ll go back with you.”
“Around noon.”
He picked up a large bag of trash. “Get some rest. If you still feel unwell, give me a call.”
“Okay.”
The door closed again, and Wen Yi sat dazed on the chair for a while, not knowing what to do. Her phone on the table caught her eye, so she picked it up and opened WeChat, finding the newly added contact.
Back in high school, full-screen phones weren’t common, and there was no WeChat, only QQ. As the social butterfly and class monitor, Wen Yi naturally had the QQ numbers of all her classmates, except for Qin Nanshan. He was the only exception.
She had thought about looking at his past life through his WeChat Moments, but when she opened it, she was shocked to find it completely blank. It wasn’t the kind of blank that comes from blocking someone; it was truly empty, with not a single post.
She went back to look at his profile picture—a dog.
Wen Yi worked in sales and enjoyed studying psychology and astrology in her free time. It helped her actively bridge the gap between people and understand them better. While it wasn’t 100% accurate, it was pretty reliable.
She had once studied an article on “How to understand someone’s personality through their WeChat profile picture.” The article was well-written, and Wen Yi had even verified it herself. It was surprisingly accurate.
She couldn’t remember the psychological terms like projection and imagery, but she remembered what each type represented. For example, cartoon images usually indicated an immature psychological age, with a longing for dependence and pure love.
As for animals… if she remembered correctly, they generally represented some inner qualities of the user. And dogs, in particular, represented loyalty.
Wen Yi felt reassured.
