Lingering Game
Lingering Game chapter 11

Jing Tian looked at his phone and then at the tablet with a puzzled expression, feeling torn between the two.

He didn’t have the courage to convey those words to Zheng Xunqian in person.

But he lacked the skill to brush it off casually.

After quickly skimming through the email content, a lightbulb went off in his mind. Suppressing a smile, he edited a reply.

“I remember how you answered me in the cafeteria that day!”

Half of it was a lie. After hitting send, Jing Tian’s heart pounded nervously.

After a while, Zheng Xunqian finally replied.

“Oh.”

Jing Tian was taken aback, then chuckled.

Zheng Xunqian seemed unwilling to confront the situation, and this seemingly simple response hinted at a bit of embarrassment.

Feeling a bit smug, Jing Tian was curious about Zheng Xunqian’s expression right now.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t come up with any more words to follow up, fearing that he might make things worse or be outsmarted.

He couldn’t be too presumptuous in front of Zheng Xunqian.

Without replying, Zheng Xunqian soon sent another message.

“You haven’t answered my question yet.”

Jing Tian became nervous again.

Holding his phone, he stood up and paced around the room, suddenly realizing something.

All signs told him that before losing his memory, he and Zheng Xunqian didn’t get along, and Zheng Xunqian didn’t want to engage with him.

But they had a relationship.

And Zheng Xunqian deliberately avoided the reasons behind it.

Stopping in his tracks, Jing Tian took a shallow breath and carefully typed.

“What about the photo you mentioned earlier?”

After hitting send, he reached back to touch his lower back, silently praying that the photo wouldn’t be too embarrassing, preferably a close-up shot without anything else in the frame.

Unexpectedly, Zheng Xunqian replied with just one text.

“I couldn’t find it.”

Jing Tian furrowed his brow in confusion.

If it was taken the night before he lost his memory, it hadn’t been long since then, and Zheng Xunqian hadn’t changed phones during that time. How could he not find it?

Unless… it wasn’t their first time, and the photo was taken a long time ago.

Jing Tian began to speculate again.

Could it be that they had been secretly involved in a physical relationship all along, and he was dissatisfied with it, wanting more interaction in their daily lives, but Zheng Xunqian refused to acknowledge him even when fully clothed?

He wanted to ask a few more questions but was afraid of appearing too strange by demanding naked photos from someone.

Zheng Xunqian interpreted Jing Tian’s silence in a different way.

“Maybe I didn’t press the shutter at that time.”

It sounded a bit far-fetched, hinting at a hint of evasion.

Jing Tian frowned, thought for a moment, and decided to inquire further.

“What kind of pattern was it?”

This time, Zheng Xunqian replied quickly.

“You went back to the dorm, right? Go look in the mirror yourself.”

Jing Tian thought to himself, how can I be sure you’ve really seen it if you don’t say?

Just as he hesitated whether to ask more directly, another message from Zheng Xunqian arrived.

“It was symmetrical, kind of like hands and kind of like wings, about the size of a palm.”

Jing Tian put down his phone and immediately ran to the bathroom. With his back to the mirror, he exposed half of his butt.

From his waist down, above his butt, there was indeed a tattoo.

The tattoo wasn’t large, and twisting his neck, he couldn’t make out the details, but he could confirm that the general shape matched Zheng Xunqian’s description.

Back at his desk, there was a new message on his phone.

“You still haven’t answered my question.”

This Zheng Xunqian was really persistent!

Jing Tian was at a loss, racked his brains, and finally decided to dodge the question.

“I complained about you ignoring me in an email.”

A few minutes later, Zheng Xunqian replied with the same familiar words.

“Oh.”

But this time, he didn’t add anything else.

Yang Yue came back just before the dormitory door closed.

As he entered the room, Jing Tian had just finished showering, standing in front of the foggy mirror, twisting his body to observe his own butt.

Even after contorting his body, he still couldn’t see clearly.

What was he thinking back then, not tattooing the little wings on his back, but on his butt?

“You bought a new tablet?” Yang Yue asked from outside the door.

Jing Tian stiffened for a moment before replying, “Someone lent it to me!”

Luckily, Yang Yue didn’t inquire further.

After Yang Yue finished showering, Jing Tian was still sitting at his desk, books, notes, and tablet arranged neatly.

“You’re so focused,” Yang Yue walked up behind him. “You’ll definitely pass the finals!”

Jing Tian looked up and smiled at him.

Yang Yue squinted back at him and then turned to climb onto his own bunk. “There’s still plenty of time, don’t overwork yourself.”

Jing Tian nodded. “Hmm.”

Among the three people who appeared before him when he lost his memory, he enjoyed spending time with Yang Yue the most. Yang Yue was outgoing, good-natured, and considerate, making it easy and enjoyable to be around him. Friendship brought healing to the soul, and casual concern from a friend made Jing Tian feel extremely grateful.

About to immerse himself in studying again, he suddenly remembered something and turned to face Yang Yue’s bunk. “Do you know I have a tattoo?”

“Yeah,” Yang Yue shifted toward him, revealing half of his head. “Just found out?”

“Yeah,” Jing Tian nodded vaguely. “…It’s in a strange place.”

Yang Yue chuckled. “You said it was meant for your boyfriend.”

Jing Tian’s eyes widened.

“My… boyfriend?”

Was he referring to Chu Chen Tao? But Chu Chen Tao hadn’t seen it; it was someone else.

“You had told me, not a specific person,” Yang Yue explained. “But a hypothetical future someone.”

Jing Tian inexplicably breathed a sigh of relief, nodded, and then asked, “Have you seen it?”

“Nope, you said it’s only for your boyfriend to see, so you kept it hidden,” Yang Yue said, looking amused and helpless. “I really don’t get if you’re bold or innocent.”

Jing Tian touched his face but didn’t speak.

Suddenly, Yang Yue seemed to think of something, cheerfully leaned over the edge of the bed, and said, “Actually, you wanted to use it to scam people. When you find some handsome guy, you’d forcibly show it to him and say, ‘This is exclusive for my boyfriend. Now you have to take responsibility for me.'”

He intentionally changed his voice to sound exaggerated and affected.

Blushing, Jing Tian chuckled softly. “No way, don’t say that…”

Originally, he wanted to ask Yang Yue to help him take a close-up photo so he could see the pattern clearly.

Now, he couldn’t bring himself to ask.

Turning back to his desk, Jing Tian found it hard to concentrate. Soon, his mind wandered to things unrelated to studying.

“…You said you were my boyfriend that day,” he muttered quietly, facing away from Yang Yue.

“Yeah!” Yang Yue burst into laughter. “Quick, take off your pants and let me appreciate it!”

“Why did you say that that day?” Jing Tian asked.

Yang Yue remained lying on the bed, sighed, and said, “Isn’t it obvious? To annoy that guy surnamed Chu.”

“…You don’t like him?” Jing Tian asked.

“Not just dislike, I can’t stand him,” Yang Yue said, lowering his voice. “I advise you not to get too close to him.”

Similar words had been said by Chu Chen Tao, but Jing Tian didn’t act on them. But hearing them from Yang Yue now made him feel like he should take it seriously.

“The senior seems… nice, very gentle and patient with me,” he asked seriously. “Why don’t you like him?”

Yang Yue clicked his tongue lightly, hesitated for a while, and then said, “You forgot what happened before, and I didn’t want to bring it up again… It’s not a happy thing…”

Jing Tian blinked, quietly waiting for him to continue.

Yang Yue sat up, looked down at him, and said, “He dumped you.”

“He’s not worthy of you.”

Yang Yue said.

Jing Tian lowered his head and touched his face.

Chu Chen Tao was an outstanding senior in his mind, someone he admired.

On the way back to the dorm just now, Chu Chen Tao said he had no other thoughts about him at the time. Jing Tian didn’t feel resentful; he thought it was only natural.

If anything, it was himself who wasn’t up to par.

Not remembering being dumped, there was no reason to feel sad.

But Yang Yue’s serious and displeased expression made him somewhat pleased.

Yang Yue was really cute, he thought, a healing type.

“Do you think I’m meddling?” Yang Yue asked sternly.

“No!” Jing Tian shook his head and waved his hand hastily. “I feel you care about me!”

Yang Yue breathed a sigh of relief, smiled at him, and sat on the second bunk, reaching out to pat his head from afar. “Good boy!”

Jing Tian also touched his own head and asked quietly, “Then… what about Zheng Xunqian?”

Yang Yue’s hand paused in mid-air.

“Do you not like him too?” Jing Tian asked.

“He’s a strange one,” Yang Yue withdrew his hand and stroked his chin. “Keeps to himself, lives in his own world, and ignores everyone. He’s known as a weirdo.”

Jing Tian’s gaze wandered aimlessly. “So, what about me and him…”

“It’s really strange!” Yang Yue sighed. “I’m even more curious than you. You two didn’t seem to have a good relationship before, how did it…”

As he spoke, he suddenly slammed the bed with force, startling Jing Tian.

“It’s all your fault!” Yang Yue pointed at him, “You didn’t tell me anything, now you’re reaping what you sow! Otherwise, I could have told you everything right now!”

Jing Tian lowered his head in shame. “…I’m sorry.”
