Lingering Game
Lingering Game chapter 24

If it weren’t for feeling dizzy and weak in the legs, he would have bolted.

“Hello,” Yang Yue answered the phone, “What’s up?”

“Jing Tian,” Chu Chen Tao jogged a few steps and reached him, extending his hand, “Look at you, drunk again.”

His fingertips were about to touch Jing Tian’s arm when Yang Yue slapped them away.

“What are you doing, getting handsy,” Yang Yue said loudly, “Can’t you see I’m here, his boyfriend?”

As Chu Chen Tao froze, Jing Tian was also startled.

He trembled and turned his head, his gaze first falling on Yang Yue’s profile, then shifting to the phone in Yang Yue’s hand, which was pressed against his cheek.

He wanted to retort, but he could only hold it in. His already overheated brain suddenly soared another two degrees.

“It’s nothing, didn’t I tell you,” Yang Yue slightly turned his head and whispered into the phone, “You’re not looking for me, right?”

Chu Chen Tao felt somewhat helpless, smiling at Jing Tian, “Your friend…”

From his tone, it was obvious he didn’t believe Yang Yue’s words but was constrained by Jing Tian’s face, unable to do anything to Yang Yue.

Jing Tian didn’t reply.

He was trying to listen closely to the voice on the other end of Yang Yue’s phone, but unfortunately, he failed.

A driver got out of the taxi parked nearby, furrowing his brow and looking around.

With few people around, only a few of them standing still, they stood out.

The driver looked over, hesitant to speak, looking like he couldn’t reach his passenger and was worried.

Yang Yue quickly noticed and waved to the driver, “We’re here, sir!”

He said, pulling Jing Tian away.

Chu Chen Tao followed suit.

“Now? Besides me and Jing Tian, there’s that guy surnamed Chu,” Yang Yue said into his phone, “He’s persistent and annoying, needs a good lesson.”

While speaking, he deliberately glanced at Chu Chen Tao.

Chu Chen Tao frowned, his displeasure more evident than before, “Jing Tian called me to come here; this is between him and me.”

Jing Tian lowered his head, not daring to speak, imagining himself as a dead fish, just drifting along with the current.

“I don’t care what you’re up to, stop following us,” Yang Yue shouted at Chu Chen Tao, “We’re going to get a room now, do you want to join in?”

Jing Tian regained his senses, pulling Yang Yue’s sleeve in agony, “Don’t do this.”

“He told you to stop talking nonsense,” Chu Chen Tao was quite helpless, “Go back by yourself; Jing Tian and I have something to do.”

Jing Tian was frightened by his words but had reached the side of the car. His previously feeble legs suddenly regained strength, and he briskly stepped into the backseat.

“Senior, I… I don’t remember what I said on the phone…” he babbled with his eyes closed, “I’m sorry, I was wrong, I’m guilty, I can compensate you…”

Chu Chen Tao, seeing this, was puzzled for a moment, then followed suit and sat down beside him.

“Let me take you back,” he said, “We’ll talk when you sober up.”

“What are you doing? This is my taxi!” Yang Yue shouted loudly, “Get out!”

The driver was very distressed, “Can I start driving?”

Chu Chen Tao glanced at Yang Yue and said to the driver, “Sir, please drive. I’ll pay.”

The driver couldn’t figure out who had ordered the ride and hesitated.

Seeing this, Yang Yue simply opened the front door and sat in, then spoke into his still connected phone, “We’ll be at the South Gate in five minutes; you deal with it yourself!”

“Who?” Chu Chen Tao asked.

No one answered him.

“I was just acting crazy earlier; I said nonsense on the phone…” Jing Tian said nervously with his head down, “I’m sorry, I was wrong.”

Chu Chen Tao leaned close to him, as if wanting to hold his hand, but frightened, Jing Tian pressed his hand against his thigh, looking particularly obedient.

“Your alcohol tolerance is still so poor,” Chu Chen Tao said, “Call me next time you come to a place like this.”

“He meant he doesn’t want you to come at all.”

Yang Yue bickered from the front.

Ignoring him, Chu Chen Tao continued, “Are you feeling okay?”

No, he felt very uncomfortable.

Physically uncomfortable, and mentally under immense pressure.

But after all, he was in the wrong. Even if he felt unhappy, he didn’t dare to vent on Chu Chen Tao. He could only shake his head pitifully.

In his heart, he prayed silently, hoping not to see Zheng Xunqian when he got off the car.

Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned.

After the car stopped, Yang Yue jumped out first, walked to the back door, and opened it, “We’re here, don’t linger!”

As he spoke, his gaze flicked to the other side twice.

Less than five meters away, Zheng Xunqian stood with his arms crossed, staring motionlessly at them.

Chu Chen Tao also noticed, sighed, shook his head, and got out of the car.

Jing Tian was weak, struggling to move outward. Before he could get out, he glanced in Zheng Xunqian’s direction, unable to move.

The light was dim at night, and he couldn’t see Zheng Xunqian’s expression from a distance.

Jing Tian’s heart, which had quickened slightly due to alcohol, beat even harder.

“…What time is it already,” Chu Chen Tao glanced at Zheng Xunqian, “It’s late at night; there’s no need, right?”

Zheng Xunqian remained silent, walking straight towards him.

Jing Tian was frightened, holding his breath, and watched Zheng Xunqian walk up to Chu Chen Tao and raise his hand.

Just as he subconsciously wanted to shout “Don’t do it,” he saw Zheng Xunqian push Chu Chen Tao aside, quickly squeeze into the back seat, and forcefully close the car door.

“Sir, drive ahead,” he said to the driver expressionlessly.

Both the people outside the car and those inside were stunned.

Jing Tian’s mouth hung open, staring dumbly at him, unable to speak for a long time.

After hesitating for a moment, the driver asked, “Are you going to…”

“Just drive,” Zheng Xunqian said, “Turn right up ahead.”

The taxi started again and left this place of controversy behind.

Jing Tian turned back to look through the window. Chu Chen Tao and Yang Yue stood dumbfounded on the roadside, their expressions and actions appearing somewhat ridiculous.

“Where are we going now?” Jing Tian asked.

Zheng Xunqian remained silent.

Jing Tian stared at him for a few seconds, and suddenly, a flame ignited in his heart.

He had felt guilty towards Chu Chen Tao earlier and had kept quiet, but he didn’t owe anything to Zheng Xunqian. The guy’s behavior was inexplicable, and in his mind, it amounted to kidnapping.

There’s a saying, “Alcohol emboldens the cowardly.”

After cautiously considering it for a while, Jing Tian decided that he could be rightfully angry and decided to be a bit arrogant.

He was about to express his dissatisfaction when the driver in the front seat spoke up, “Where exactly are we going?”

Only then did Zheng Xunqian respond, “Um…”

From his tone, it seemed like he hadn’t even thought about that question.

“Now it’s almost time for curfew!” Jing Tian boldly criticized, “Don’t you dare leave us both without a place to sleep tonight!”

This seemed to give Zheng Xunqian an idea.

He glanced at Jing Tian, then turned to look out the window. Soon, he said to the driver, “Sir, please stop at the intersection ahead.”

“Where?” the driver asked.

“At that hotel over there,” Zheng Xunqian said, “Just stop at the entrance.”

Jing Tian was a bit bewildered. “What are you doing?”

Zheng Xunqian looked at him and asked, “Do you still remember this place?”
