Lingering Game
Lingering Game chapter 3

Jing Tian was from the southern part of China.

Three years ago, he was 1.77 meters tall, which was considered quite tall among his peers.

Three years have passed, and not only has he not grown at all, but it seems he has even shrunk a bit.

In this northern university, A University, he appeared petite compared to others.

Looking at Zheng Xunqian, who was half a head taller than him in front of him, Jing Tian secretly thought that being forced to look up might also be one of the sources of oppression.

Yang Yue went back to the dorm room first, leaving only the two of them in the hallway.

Zheng Xunqian took out a cell phone from his pocket and handed it over, “Is this yours?”

Jing Tian reached out and took it, trying to press the power button.

The screen lit up, but it was a chaotic mosaic of colors.

Broken.

“…I don’t know.”

Jing Tian was embarrassed.

His phone in his memory certainly didn’t look like this.

“I found it where you fell,” Zheng Xunqian glanced at the colorful screen, “I didn’t turn it on, so I don’t know if it’s broken.”

“It’s okay,” Jing Tian gripped the phone tightly, “Thank you!”

“What about you,” Zheng Xunqian asked, “Are you okay? What did the doctor say?”

He still spoke with no expression, his tone calm.

But because Jing Tian felt cared for, he no longer felt anxious and gradually calmed down.

“I don’t know if I’m okay. I’ve forgotten everything from the past few years,” Jing Tian said, “I thought I was still in my senior year of high school, and the college entrance examination was in three months.”

Zheng Xunqian looked at his face, just listened, and didn’t speak.

Jing Tian could only continue, “The doctor said it was memory confusion caused by the impact and should gradually recover over time.”

“You don’t remember me at all?” Zheng Xunqian asked.

Jing Tian became nervous again, “I’m sorry!”

Zheng Xunqian shook his head, sighed lightly, and said, “I heard that you were a diligent and studious student in high school.”

Jing Tian blinked.

“…You said it yourself.”

Zheng Xunqian added.

Jing Tian raised his hand and scratched his chin with his index finger, “It’s okay.”

He didn’t have many merits, only some confidence in his grades.

From childhood to adulthood, although he wasn’t the top student in the class, he was still among the best.

Unlike naturally gifted academic geniuses, he was of average intelligence and relied on working hard.

For someone like him, A University was a place to look forward to and worth striving for, but not necessarily achievable.

Since waking up in the infirmary, he had been in a state of surprise and confusion all day. Now that he had come to his senses, he realized that he had actually been admitted to his dream university. Jing Tian felt a surge of joy.

Compared to amnesia, he felt more like he had traveled to the future.

Everything in the future was a mess, but there was also good news.

His hard work had paid off, and he had made friends who cared about him.

Thinking of this, he couldn’t help but smile.

Soon, he realized that Zheng Xunqian was still looking at him, so he bit his lip in embarrassment, trying to conceal it.

Unfortunately, the effect was not good, and his expression became strange.

He blushed.

“Um, I…” To ease the embarrassment, he struggled to speak, “I don’t have any other hobbies, so I spend all my time reading.”

He quickly glanced at Zheng Xunqian and then froze.

Zheng Xunqian smiled.

His smile was shallow, and his eyes, which had seemed somewhat sharp, slightly narrowed, and the corners of his lips curved up gently.

That face, which was usually devoid of expression most of the time, became gentle and lively at this moment.

Jing Tian stared blankly and followed suit with a silly smile.

With a smile on his face, Zheng Xunqian said something that made Jing Tian’s heart skip a beat: “You probably don’t want to repeat a year, do you?”

Jing Tian’s smile froze on his face.

According to what Yang Yue had just said, not only was he struggling to pass this semester, but he also had several historical issues from the past to deal with.

It was unbelievable that after entering university, he would become so negligent about studying.

Seeing his pale face, Zheng Xunqian’s smile became even more apparent.

“I can help you.”

He said.

Jing Tian licked his lips nervously and asked, “How can you help?”

Zheng Xunqian looked at the broken phone still held in Jing Tian’s hand, took out a pen from his pocket, and took Jing Tian’s other hand, spreading it out and writing a string of numbers on it.

“If you don’t understand anything, you can call me. If you want to go to the library or the self-study room, I can come to accompany you if I have time.”

Jing Tian was pulled by him, and they looked at each other for two seconds. He hastily averted his gaze, saying, “How can I accept this…”

Zheng Xunqian didn’t say anything, but had a look of “it’s up to you” on his face.

Jing Tian cautiously withdrew his hand and added, “Thank you.”

Regardless of whether he would eventually ask Zheng Xunqian for help, this gesture was always worthy of gratitude.

“You’re welcome,” Zheng Xunqian said, “I have a request.”

Jing Tian was taken aback.

When he looked at Zheng Xunqian again, he found that Zheng Xunqian’s gaze was focused on a spot slightly behind him.

Jing Tian wanted to turn around, but before he could do so, Zheng Xunqian raised his hand again.

Zheng Xunqian’s fingers passed through his bangs, earlobes, and stopped at his jaw. His thumb gently touched the skin of his cheek.

Jing Tian stiffened, not daring to move, watching as Zheng Xunqian slowly leaned in.

As they got closer, Jing Tian instinctively shrunk his neck and closed his eyes tightly.

Then, he pursed his lips.

But after that, the expected touch did not come.

Jing Tian held his breath and cautiously opened one eye.

Zheng Xunqian was smiling again.

He looked at Jing Tian with an ambiguous gaze and said, “It’s okay if you don’t remember, we can get to know each other again.”

After saying that, he quickly retreated to a polite distance, lightly tapped the hand where the phone number was written, and left.

What special meaning did that sentence have that required him to come so close and whisper it? Jing Tian wondered for a few seconds before turning around to look back.

There was another person in the corridor, and Zheng Xunqian was passing by them side by side.

Compared to Zheng Xunqian’s calm demeanor, the other person’s expression and actions seemed extremely unnatural.

Those few seconds felt infinitely prolonged due to the strange atmosphere.

It wasn’t until Zheng Xunqian’s figure disappeared around the corner that Jing Tian finally spoke up, “Senior? What are you doing here?”

After saying it, he immediately realized it was a useless question.

“Looking for you,” the senior walked briskly to him and got straight to the point, “What were you two doing just now?”

“…Talking.”

Jing Tian said.

The senior frowned, judging by his expression, he probably didn’t believe it.

Jing Tian then realized that from the senior’s perspective just now, they might have looked like they were kissing.

“Um, I…” Jing Tian blushed, wanting to explain, but when the words reached his mouth, he felt embarrassed.

He hadn’t been asked, and being eager to explain gave the impression of trying to cover something up.

“You don’t remember this person at all, right?” the senior asked.

Jing Tian thought for a moment and honestly nodded.

The senior glanced at the corner where Zheng Xunqian disappeared and said, “I’ve only seen you with Yang Yue, never with him.”

Jing Tian didn’t understand the implication.

“He might not be telling the truth,” the senior said, “Be careful not to be deceived.”

Jing Tian blinked, lowered his gaze, neither confirming nor denying it.

“But I won’t deceive you,” the senior continued, “Do you remember me, right? We’ve almost met every day during this period. Do you have any impression?”

“Well, actually,” Jing Tian felt embarrassed and explained awkwardly, “I didn’t selectively forget, I just forgot everything from the past three years.”

“Are you saying…”

“My memory only goes back to the second semester of senior year.”

Jing Tian said.

The senior fell silent for a moment, then spoke again with a helpless smile, “So you’ve really forgotten all the important things.”

“What?” Jing Tian asked.

“I accompanied you in your exam preparation, celebrated with you after you passed, and then… you confessed to me,” the senior looked at him seriously, “And then… you confessed to me.”

Jing Tian’s mouth hung open, speechless.

“I don’t believe what he said,” the senior continued, “I trust you, you wouldn’t do that to me, right?”
