Jing Tian didn’t know what to say, so he just closed his mouth tightly and kept his head down, remaining silent.
Zheng Xunqian wasn’t insistent on the previous topic.
He pointed to the meal box in front of Jing Tian and said, “Eat more, or it’ll go to waste.”
Jing Tian picked up the bucket of fast food and drank it very hard.
After all, having something to do would make the situation less awkward.
“Be careful of the bones,” Zheng Xunqian reminded him, “if one gets stuck, you’ll really have to go to the hospital.”
Jing Tian put down the fish soup, licked his lips, and said, “I’ll leave after eating. You need rest when you’re sick, so get some more sleep.”
“I’ve been sleeping all day,” Zheng Xunqian said.
Jing Tian glanced at him, “Sleep a little more.”
“Fine,” Zheng Xunqian sighed, “since you’re so eager to leave.”
“I’m not medicine, keeping me won’t do any good,” Jing Tian said.
“It does,” Zheng Xunqian said, “I’m feeling much better than before.”
Jing Tian bit his lip.
He sneakily glanced at Zheng Xunqian, then quickly averted his gaze.
Zheng Xunqian was dressed casually, with a loose neckline that exposed his neck and part of his collarbone.
There were still unnatural dark marks on it.
His heart pounded for a moment, and when Zheng Xunqian was about to speak again, Jing Tian suddenly said loudly, “Oh! I have two problems I don’t know how to solve!”
Zheng Xunqian was startled by his sudden outburst, “What problems?”
“It’s… it’s…” Jing Tian nervously licked his lips, trying to remember, but his mind was a mess, “it’s…”
Oh no, why can’t I remember at all?
“Is it the ones I sent you before?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
Jing Tian nodded quickly.
Zheng Xunqian opened his laptop, found the folder, opened the exercises, and pushed it towards him.
Jing Tian quickly found the problem that had been troubling him.
“I got a different answer from the reference solution, and I don’t know where I went wrong,” he said, then pushed away the bowl and chopsticks in front of him and asked Zheng Xunqian for a piece of scratch paper, quickly writing down the steps.
After checking it over several times and hardly needing any calculation, he could write down the complete steps.
Zheng Xunqian watched quietly, and when he finished writing, he took it and recalculated it in his mind, saying, “It’s correct.”
“But it’s different from the answer!” Jing Tian said.
Zheng Xunqian looked at the corresponding standard answer and said, “The answer is wrong.”
Jing Tian was dumbfounded.
“You’re right,” Zheng Xunqian pointed at the paper, “your train of thought is clear, you did a good job.”
Jing Tian blinked twice, feeling both amused and relieved, “No wonder I couldn’t find the problem after struggling for half an hour.”
Zheng Xunqian put down the scratch paper, “You should be more confident. If you can’t find any problems anywhere, then it’s definitely the answer that’s wrong.”
“…I’m still retaking the class, and I’m not good at studying. For me, the answer is authoritative, so why would I think to question it.”
“In that case, am I more authoritative than the standard answer for you?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
Jing Tian was silent for a moment.
It seemed to be the case. In these kinds of problems, as long as Zheng Xunqian spoke up, he would unquestionably believe him.
This was clearly a very serious and natural matter, but he felt embarrassed and reluctant to admit it.
“There’s another problem,” he deliberately avoided Zheng Xunqian’s gaze, operated the mouse to scroll down the page, “this one, I have no idea at all, there’s only one answer provided, without any steps.”
Zheng Xunqian glanced at it and said, “We haven’t covered this yet, are you studying ahead?”
Jing Tian’s heart skipped a beat.
He had thought that Zheng Xunqian wouldn’t tutor him anymore, so he tried to study on his own.
Now it seemed that Zheng Xunqian was still willing to teach him, which made his behavior seem a bit awkward.
“I… I was just taking a look.”
Jing Tian said.
Zheng Xunqian stared at his face for a few seconds, then nodded slowly and softly responded, “Oh.”
Just one word, yet it held deep meaning.
“Let’s forget about this problem for now!” Jing Tian stood up, “You should rest early.”
Zheng Xunqian remained seated and raised his head, “Alright.”
Jing Tian looked at him, feeling a bit reluctant, so he stood still and tried to find something to say, “How are you feeling now? Are you feeling better?”
Zheng Xunqian touched his own forehead, “I can’t really say, my hands are hot too, so I can’t tell.”
Jing Tian hesitated for a moment, then raised his hand.
Because of nervousness, his movements were a bit slow. He had only lifted it halfway when Zheng Xunqian grabbed it.
Zheng Xunqian held his hand and pulled him towards himself.
Jing Tian took a silly step forward and then was embraced by Zheng Xunqian around the waist.
Zheng Xunqian’s hand slowly moved up his spine, passed his neck, and his fingers slipped into his soft hair.
Jing Tian’s body gradually stiffened, but when Zheng Xunqian tried to exert a little force, he almost offered no resistance and leaned down almost effortlessly.
Facing Zheng Xunqian’s slightly raised face, he even subconsciously wanted to close his eyes.
But he didn’t.
Zheng Xunqian led him, gently pressing their foreheads together, and asked, “Still hot?”
Jing Tian didn’t answer.
After being stunned for a few seconds, he suddenly straightened up and took a step back.
“What’s wrong?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
Jing Tian shook his head slowly, opened his mouth, then quickly closed it again.
He felt confused, with a buzzing sound in his ears, unable to speak.
Zheng Xunqian’s mouth curved slightly, a smile playing on his lips, as he asked again, “Are you feeling dizzy too?”
Yes, I’m feeling dizzy too, very dizzy.
Jing Tian turned his head away and stopped looking at him. After a few seconds, he finally snapped out of it and realized his loss of composure.
The small patch of skin on his forehead that had touched Zheng Xunqian radiated an astonishing heat.
“You’re burning up badly,” he said to Zheng Xunqian.
Zheng Xunqian remained silent.
“You need to rest more, take your medicine on time,” Jing Tian continued, “and… drink more water, keep warm.”
“…Okay.”
“I’ll leave now.”
Jing Tian said as he turned around, but before reaching the door, he stopped.
“You don’t need these, right?” He pointed to the leftover meal boxes on the table.
Zheng Xunqian nodded.
Jing Tian quickly walked over, lowered his head, and carefully cleaned up, “Take good care of yourself, get well soon.”
“Alright,” Zheng Xunqian said, “Thank you.”
Back in the dorm, Yang Yue was still playing games.
“Finally back,” he said without lifting his head, “What’s up? You left in a hurry, did something big happen?”
“Why are you still playing?” Jing Tian asked in surprise, “Aren’t your eyes sore?”
“Don’t mention it,” Yang Yue said with a bitter face, “Just thought I’d win a round and ended up playing till now.”
Jing Tian observed his expression carefully and silently judged in his mind that this round probably didn’t bode well.
“You haven’t answered me yet!” Yang Yue pressed, “What happened?”
“…I couldn’t figure out a few problems, so I went to ask about them.”
Jing Tian dodged the question.
Yang Yue suddenly looked up, “Zheng Xunqian?”
“Look at your phone, don’t drag down your teammates!” Jing Tian reached out and forcefully pointed at his phone.
Yang Yue stared at him for two seconds, then lowered his head, but he didn’t stop talking, “You went to see him again?”
Jing Tian felt guilty and didn’t respond.
“Damn!” Yang Yue exclaimed, “Are you crazy?”
Jing Tian was startled, “No, it’s just, um… he actually didn’t…”
“Can’t you play the game properly! What nonsense!” Yang Yue continued to yell, “Is he joking around?”
Jing Tian was stunned for a moment, then breathed a sigh of relief.
Yang Yue’s fingers quickly stopped moving, and after a long sigh, he put down his phone in despair.
“…Accept it and move on,” Jing Tian said, “It’s just a game, don’t take it to heart.”
“You said something just now?” Yang Yue asked, “He actually didn’t what?”
“Why are you so nervous? I’m not trying to control you,” Yang Yue said helplessly, “You’re a grown adult, you know what you’re doing.”
Jing Tian smiled at him.
The problem was that he didn’t know what he was doing.
So he was anxious to confess, afraid of doing something foolish, and Yang Yue would have to worry for him.
Jing Tian sat down beside Yang Yue, asking, “I used to like Chu Chen Tao, right?”
Yang Yue rolled his eyes, “Yeah, that’s why I said your taste is bad.”
“That wasn’t recent, was it?” Jing Tian guessed.
“Yeah,” Yang Yue nodded, “It was when we were freshmen, not long after we met.”
“Was I sad because of him back then?” Jing Tian asked again.
“Why are you asking about this? It’s all in the past,” Yang Yue said, “He’s not worth your thoughts.”
“I don’t feel anything for him now,” Jing Tian said, “Whether I liked him or was sad, I don’t feel anything, it’s like listening to someone else’s story.”
Yang Yue was curious, “What are you trying to say?”
“I was so stupid back then, so I hurt myself,” Jing Tian said quietly, “But, it’s in the past now.
As long as there’s time, mistakes can be corrected.”
“…You must have hit your head,” Yang Yue said, “That’s why you forgot everything.”
Jing Tian shook his head.
It’s not the same.
He still remembered Zheng Xunqian.
He forgot his name, his appearance, didn’t remember any past interactions between them, but he still remembered him.
He would get nervous for him, couldn’t restrain his desire to get close to him, would be afraid of him, would miss him.
Perhaps this was also a mistake, he was sure, he had been heartbroken because of it.
Not just in the past, if he continued to approach Zheng Xunqian, he might repeat the same mistakes in the future.
“People shouldn’t always be afraid of making mistakes and just keep hiding…” Jing Tian said.
Yang Yue was very dissatisfied with his cryptic words, “Can’t you speak like a normal person?”
Jing Tian touched his nose, “I might… still meet Zheng Xunqian often in the future.”
He didn’t know what he wanted to do, what he was doing.
But he knew what he couldn’t do.
He couldn’t firmly avoid Zheng Xunqian.
Yang Yue frowned at him for a while, shook his head, and picked up his phone again, “Whatever.”
After a moment, he added, “If he makes you unhappy, I will beat the crap out of him.”
