Back in the dormitory, Jing Tian looked absent-minded.
“You guys chatted for quite a while, what did you talk about?” Yang Yue looked at him with interest and casually pointed, “Your bed is over there.”
The dormitory beds were designed with a single bed on top of a desk, with four beds in total, arranged facing each other in pairs.
Yang Yue was sitting at one of the desks, pointing to the seat opposite him.
“The desk and cabinets are for you to use freely. There are only two of us living in this dormitory now, and all the drawers in that row are filled with your stuff,” Yang Yue explained.
Jing Tian nodded and found a seat randomly.
His mind was in a mess, and he didn’t have the mood to check his personal belongings for the time being.
Today, he received too much explosive information, exceeding his capacity to digest, and he couldn’t recover his senses.
“What’s wrong? What did he say?” Yang Yue asked curiously.
Jing Tian looked at him seriously and said, “I have a question.”
“Go ahead,” Yang Yue said.
Jing Tian unconsciously rubbed his hands and said, “Am I… kind of… a casual person?”
Everything he had encountered today forced him to come to this embarrassing conclusion.
Yang Yue widened his eyes, then tilted his head slightly, lost in thought. “Um… it’s not good to say it like that…”
Not denying it immediately meant that his lifestyle indeed had some problems.
Jing Tian felt a tightness in his chest, feeling sad and helpless.
“It’s not as exaggerated as you think,” Yang Yue hurriedly explained when he saw his expression wasn’t right, “You’ve just become more… more… open-minded these years! Definitely not to the point of being casual!”
Jing Tian looked at him sadly. “Thank you, you’re a good person.”
Yang Yue was too gentle. Seeing him like this, he must be racking his brains to comfort him with his words, and the truth must be a hundred times more terrifying than what he said.
“At least… at least you’ve never had casual relationships!” Yang Yue emphasized.
Jing Tian thought to himself, of course not, those unclear relationships I had were all with guys.
Sitting on the chair, he sighed deeply, suddenly alert.
Right, why were all those unclear relationships with guys?! And why hadn’t he realized anything wrong from the time he woke up until now?
Had his subconscious already defaulted to something?
“What’s this in your hand?” Yang Yue asked.
Jing Tian looked down at his palm.
“A phone number? Written by Zheng Xunqian?” Yang Yue leaned closer and examined it carefully, “…How did it get so messy?”
When he was talking to the senior, he felt uneasy and unknowingly clenched his hand into a fist, sweating a little. As a result, the imprint left by the pen became blurry.
“Did he ask you to call him?” Yang Yue asked, “This trick is so outdated, like something from a century ago’s idol drama!”
“…Is he good at studying?” Jing Tian asked.
“Yeah,” Yang Yue nodded, “By the way, if you want to make up for your studies, you can ask him for help!”
Jing Tian was hesitant to tell Yang Yue about Zheng Xunqian’s proposal. The dormitory door was knocked, and the class teacher arrived.
The class teacher was young, just in his early thirties, and didn’t have much of an air.
After hearing Jing Tian’s situation, he didn’t hide his suspicion, worried that Jing Tian was making up stories out of fear of failing and being at a loss.
But Jing Tian’s current gentle and obedient appearance was completely different from before, and it didn’t seem like an act.
“A subject can only be retaken twice, and if you fail to accumulate enough credits for two consecutive years, you have to repeat the grade. These are the rigid rules, and I can’t help you,” the class teacher said, “At most, I can talk to the subject teachers and see if they can be a bit lenient with your grades.”
“But the premise is that you have to attend classes diligently and hand in all your assignments seriously,” the class teacher added.
Jing Tian nodded quickly. “I will work hard!”
The class teacher was still suspicious, sizing him up and down. “Have you really changed?”
Jing Tian almost cried. “I don’t want to repeat the grade or be expelled…”
Seeing this, the class teacher finally believed him a little, patting him on the shoulder. “Don’t be too nervous. There’s still time this semester. If you’re willing to learn, I’ll find a top student to help you catch up.”
Yang Yue, who had been sitting quietly at his desk, spoke softly, “Like Zheng Xunqian?”
“Him? Let’s forget it. I can’t persuade him,” the class teacher smiled and shrugged, “I’ll go back and ask the class monitor. If helping you pass the exam smoothly can be considered an advanced example, I’m sure someone will be willing to do it.”
The class teacher left after encouraging Jing Tian for a while, leaving him feeling inspired.
After actually understanding the subjects he needed to tackle, he felt his head spinning.
Senior year was the pinnacle of one’s learning ability and knowledge accumulation.
Although Jing Tian’s memory had returned and his enthusiasm for learning was as positive as in senior year, everything else was a mess.
As he tried to recall the knowledge he once had, he realized clearly that senior year seemed so distant now.
His mind was blank, and he didn’t remember anything.
He didn’t know high school knowledge, nor did he know university knowledge. Looking at the textbooks that seemed like heavenly books, he felt dizzy and out of breath.
“You should go try to find Zheng Xunqian! Just because the teacher can’t persuade him doesn’t mean you can’t. I’ve never seen this guy care about anyone else like this,” Yang Yue urged, “Don’t you want to know what’s going on between you and him?”
He wanted to know, but he was also afraid to know.
Jing Tian thought to himself, it would only lead to complications. Right now, he didn’t have the time or energy to waste on messy matters. The burden of studying was already pressing down on him, making it hard for him to breathe.
Besides academics, there was another thing that gave him a headache.
He didn’t know the startup password for his computer, and his phone was completely broken.
He couldn’t use any of his social media accounts or payment apps.
Luckily, he still remembered his family’s phone numbers. After contacting his mom once and explaining that his phone was broken and he forgot the password, he quickly received funds for a new phone.
Jing Tian didn’t mention his amnesia completely forgetting the past three years, just saying his phone broke and he forgot the password.
His mom was busy with work, and he didn’t want to worry her too much.
After two full days of running around and guessing, he finally managed to log in to the accounts he needed for daily use.
All the chat records on social media were cleared.
Several people had tried to contact him these days, and most of the profile pictures and names were unfamiliar. The only one he could recognize was the senior with whom he had a close relationship.
Because Jing Tian had written his full name in the contact, Chu Chen Tao.
The last message Chu Chen Tao sent him was on the day he fell.
He asked him what he wanted to eat that night.
It seemed that the appointment between the two of them was indeed real.
Jing Tian tried to find Zheng Xunqian in his friends list, but to no avail.
Three years ago, his list included distant relatives and the grocery delivery guy from the neighborhood, totaling just over thirty people.
Now, it had multiplied several times over, and opening his social media feed was a blur of unfamiliar faces.
He guessed that Zheng Xunqian’s account name might be different from his real name, and he hadn’t made any notes.
He had already done that kind of thing, and surely he hadn’t neglected to add him as a friend.
Nervously, he opened his own social media feed and was soon stunned.
His university life seemed too carefree; he was eating, drinking, and having fun almost every week.
In the morning, when he washed his face, he noticed a hint of pale pink at the tips of his hair.
Flipping through photos, he realized that just less than half a month ago, he still had pink hair.
And two months before that, his hair was mint green.
Most of the photos were selfies, with lively expressions, possibly filtered, bathed in sunlight, and exuding confidence.
Jing Tian secretly imitated the gestures in the photos of himself and soon blushed.
Just as he decided to give up, he received a new friend request.
—Hello, I’m Zhang Yuewei. Teacher Xia said you need some help with your studies.
Teacher Xia was their class teacher.
Jing Tian quickly accepted the friend request.
This guy named Zhang Yuewei was very enthusiastic, saying he had learned about his specific situation from Teacher Xia and was willing to help him progress together and overcome difficulties.
Jing Tian was extremely grateful and repeatedly thanked him.
The next day was a theoretical class related to his major.
Jing Tian attached great importance to it and arrived twenty minutes early.
The classroom was empty, with only four or five students.
Jing Tian hadn’t dyed his hair back to black yet, still conspicuous, attracting quite a few glances.
A girl raised her hand actively and smiled, waving at him.
Jing Tian felt extremely nervous, stiffly nodded at her, and quickly sat in the corner.
Half a minute later, he began to regret it.
Was the girl familiar with him? If so, his behavior just now was too impolite.
Should he go explain? But it would be awkward to explain now.
What if she wasn’t familiar with him at all?
Before he could come to a conclusion, someone else walked in.
He subconsciously looked up and soon stiffened.
It was Zheng Xunqian.
They hadn’t had any contact these days.
Jing Tian hadn’t reached out, and Zheng Xunqian hadn’t come to him either, a stark contrast to Chu Chen Tao, who had been inquiring about him almost every day.
Jing Tian took a deep breath, about to greet him proactively, but saw Zheng Xunqian pass by him without even a sideways glance, heading to another corner of the classroom and sitting down.
Jing Tian remained seated, biting his lip, feeling inexplicably uneasy.
Did Zheng Xunqian not see him at all, or was he deliberately ignoring him?
Perhaps sensing his gaze, Zheng Xunqian turned slightly awkwardly after sitting down and looked in his direction.
Their eyes met, and Jing Tian straightened up nervously.
Zheng Xunqian stared at his face for a few seconds, about to speak, when someone else rushed in through the door.
The newcomer was energetic and ran straight to Jing Tian, placing his backpack on the desk in front of him.
“You’re here early,” he smiled at Jing Tian, “Don’t you recognize me? I’m Zhang Yuewei, the one who’s supposed to tutor you.”
The classroom was quiet, and his not-so-loud voice echoed clearly throughout the space.
Before expressing his thanks, Jing Tian secretly glanced in Zheng Xunqian’s direction.
Zheng Xunqian had already turned away and was no longer looking at him.
