Jing Tian looked at his phone and sighed inwardly.
This situation was truly a dilemma for him.
It was true that he didn’t want to live with Zheng Xunqian before.
But when Zheng Xunqian said he couldn’t sleep well at night, Jing Tian softened and couldn’t bear it.
However, he also had to consider Yang Yue’s feelings.
If only there was some compromise.
Jing Tian held his phone for a while, thinking, but couldn’t come up with a good solution. Then, Zheng Xunqian sent a new message.
― If it’s inconvenient, just say so. It’s okay.
Jing Tian felt a bit awkward suddenly, but also relieved.
He decided to stick to the original plan and use the unfamiliar roommate he hadn’t met as a shield.
― Sorry, there’s another roommate who isn’t too keen.
Fortunately, Zheng Xunqian didn’t express any objections to this and didn’t ask about the person’s name, accepting the answer very straightforwardly.
― Understood.
Jing Tian stared at the message for a while, feeling a hint of loneliness hidden in it.
After much thought, he realized he only had one way to express his apology.
As he was typing, a new message popped up.
― Are you planning to treat me to dinner?
Jing Tian’s fingers froze.
Blushing, he deleted the few words he had typed, “I can treat you,” and rephrased it.
― Is that okay?
He guessed Zheng Xunqian was probably laughing now.
After seeing it so often these days, he finally developed a bit of immunity to Zheng Xunqian’s smile, no longer getting confused at the sight of it like he did initially.
He subconsciously imagined the scene for a moment, his heart beating a little faster.
It took Zheng Xunqian about half a minute to reply, but he didn’t answer Jing Tian’s question.
― I want to ask you about something.
After expressing his confusion, Jing Tian became even more puzzled by Zheng Xunqian’s next message.
― Does Yang Yue have any hobbies or things he likes?
Jing Tian glanced back.
Yang Yue was staring at his phone screen with a tense expression.
Furrowing his brows, Jing Tian typed.
― He likes playing mobile games.
Why do you ask?
Zheng Xunqian didn’t answer but continued questioning.
― Besides that, is there anything else?
Jing Tian didn’t respond and instead followed his example to ask further.
― Why do you want to know?
― Just asking.
However, his way of asking didn’t seem casual at all.
Knowing his answer was not convincing, Zheng Xunqian quickly added.
― I want to know more about your friend.
It was barely a reason, but it still felt odd, sounding strange.
Jing Tian remained silent, and Zheng Xunqian asked again:
― Does he also like drinking milk tea?
Jing Tian couldn’t confirm the answer, so he turned to ask, “Do you like drinking milk tea?”
Yang Yue didn’t lift his head. “Are you treating me? Then I’ll drink. Which place are you planning to take me?”
No, it’s Zheng Xunqian who wants to know.
If he said that, Yang Yue would probably get goosebumps.
“What’s wrong?” Yang Yue glanced at him, “Aren’t you treating me?”
“Then do you like it?” Jing Tian asked again with a brave face.
“It’s alright, just average,” Yang Yue smiled, “I’ll drink if someone treats me.”
In order to conduct this inexplicable investigation for Zheng Xunqian, he had to treat Yang Yue to a cup of milk tea and bought one for himself too.
Before the milk tea arrived, he sent feedback to Zheng Xunqian.
― Average, can drink but not particularly fond of it.
Zheng Xunqian promptly asked again.
― What does he like to eat?
Jing Tian didn’t consult the person in question again. He pondered for a moment and soon had an answer.
― The preserved vegetable and pork bun from the shop near the school’s second gate.
The next morning, Zheng Xunqian arrived at the classroom a bit later than usual.
He carried a bag and sat down next to Jing Tian, asking, “Are you hungry? Do you want a bun?”
Jing Tian looked at him suspiciously but didn’t say anything.
With a calm expression, Zheng Xunqian opened the bag. “There’s a taro mixed grains bun and a preserved vegetable and pork bun.”
Before Jing Tian could react, Yang Yue leaned over. “Is there one for me? I want the preserved vegetable and pork bun!”
Zheng Xunqian handed one over, and the remaining one was placed in front of Jing Tian.
Jing Tian still didn’t move, staring at his face.
“It’s hot,” Zheng Xunqian said, “Go ahead, eat.”
Jing Tian silently accepted it and took a bite.
It was sweet, fragrant, and soft, just the taste he liked.
“How did you think of bringing us food?” Yang Yue asked with a smile, “I love this one!”
“Really?” Zheng Xunqian remained calm, “What a coincidence.”
Yang Yue looked very happy. “Thanks!”
Jing Tian chewed on the bun, remaining silent.
In theory, he should express his gratitude, but he really didn’t feel like it right now.
There’s a problem with Zheng Xunqian.
Could it be that he fell in love at first sight with Yang Yue when he saw him cross-dressing the other day, just like Shu Ziqin?
Jing Tian glanced at Zheng Xunqian again.
Zheng Xunqian was arranging his books. Sensing his gaze, he immediately looked back and smiled at him.
He seemed to be in a good mood.
Jing Tian withdrew his gaze and ignored him.
In the afternoon, the two of them finished studying in the small study room. Zheng Xunqian asked him if he wanted to drink milk tea.
Jing Tian had two cups yesterday and was slightly tired of it.
While hesitating, Zheng Xunqian said again, “I can also bring a cup for your roommate.”
Jing Tian stared at his face for three seconds and chose to refuse.
On the way back to the dormitory, he felt gloomy.
Upon careful thought, the first time Zheng Xunqian invited Yang Yue for milk tea was on the day Yang Yue cross-dressed.
Before that, he couldn’t even remember Yang Yue’s name.
Afterward, he not only remembered how to pronounce it but also how to write it.
Shu Ziqin was clearly infatuated with Yang Yue, but he wasn’t as attentive as he was.
It was too strange; it didn’t quite fit Zheng Xunqian’s usual style.
“What’s wrong?” Zheng Xunqian glanced at him, “Something on your mind?”
Jing Tian hesitated for three seconds before replying, “Nothing.”
But Zheng Xunqian didn’t believe him. “Clearly there is.”
Jing Tian ignored him.
He walked forward with his head down, waiting for Zheng Xunqian to ask again, just like yesterday when he asked about Yang Yue’s preferences.
But they reached the dormitory building, and Zheng Xunqian remained silent.
When they said goodbye, he bid Jing Tian farewell as usual, saying, “See you tomorrow.”
Jing Tian didn’t really want to see him tomorrow. He just gave a soft “Hmm” and turned to enter the dormitory building.
As he reached the second floor landing and passed by the corner window, he couldn’t help but slow down and glance down.
Zheng Xunqian was already far away, only a small but still upright figure visible.
The figure slowed down inexplicably and then picked up the phone, lowering his head to look at it.
Who was contacting him? What was he saying to the other person?
Jing Tian quickly left that small window.
He knew too little about Zheng Xunqian.
He seemed to have never seen any of Zheng Xunqian’s friends and didn’t know what he usually did or what he was thinking when he was with him.
For Jing Tian, Zheng Xunqian was a puzzle that was close but still out of reach.
Yang Yue often told him that Zheng Xunqian liked him.
Jing Tian occasionally believed it, but sometimes he dared not.
After all, Zheng Xunqian never said anything.
Yang Yue’s argument was that Zheng Xunqian, who didn’t care about anyone else, only paid attention to him.
But now Zheng Xunqian was paying attention to Yang Yue too.
Why?
How could he understand Zheng Xunqian better?
Just as he reached the door of the dormitory, he heard Yang Yue yelling and screaming inside.
From the tone, it sounded like they were arguing with someone in the game.
Jing Tian hurried in, only to see Yang Yue sitting cross-legged on his own bed, head down, rubbing the phone screen.
He had earphones in his ears, a look of deep frustration on his face, completely oblivious to Jing Tian’s arrival, and he began speaking in a harmonious tone.
“Fk, what the hell are you doing! Come back! Come back! Not…not in that direction! I’m going…wait! Stop! Stop! Stop! Crouch down! Quickly, crouch down! Why the hell are you running! Wait, wait, wait, you’ve run, don’t stop in a place like that! …Don’t stand up, fk! Get up! Get up! Quickly get up! F**k!”
After shouting the last two words, he sighed dramatically, looking utterly despondent as he stared at the screen, a face full of disappointment.
When he spoke again, Yang Yue’s tone had calmed considerably, filled with resignation.
“It’s okay, I’ll come and save you. Just wait for a moment.”
He usually played games solo, never using voice chat or communicating with others.
But he often cursed while playing.
Jing Tian had heard of a condition called “road rage,” where people who were usually quite temperate became extremely irritable once they got behind the wheel.
Yang Yue seemed to have a similar condition, which could be named “gaming rage.”
Jing Tian had gotten used to hearing him curse his teammates as idiots and his opponents as shameless. This was the first time he had seen him get so frantic, but he patiently refrained from saying anything rude.
After about fifteen seconds, Yang Yue exploded again, “Don’t fking stand up! Crouch down! Quickly crouch down! Why the hell are you running! Wait, wait, wait, you’ve run, don’t stop in a place like that! …Don’t crouch, fk! Get up! Get up! Quickly get up! F**k!”
After that, he made an extremely pitiful sob, lifting one hand to wipe his face in despair.
“Your current position isn’t easy to rescue.
Forget it.”
He said dejectedly.
Jing Tian walked to the bedside and looked up at him.
Yang Yue finally realized Jing Tian’s presence and raised his head, wearing a bitter smile as he shook his head at him.
“It’s okay, it’s okay, I surrendered too. Let’s just call it quits for this round,” Yang Yue said weakly, “It’s alright, it’s not a big deal, don’t worry about it. Ah? No… I’m not playing anymore. I’m tired today, I’m logging off. Bye.”
After saying that, he manipulated his hands for a moment, then pulled off his headphones and threw them along with his phone to the side.
“Help me!” he wailed to Jing Tian, “Damn idiot! He’s driving me crazy!”
“…Who?” Jing Tian asked.
“That guy, what are you having for lunch today,” Yang Yue said.
Jing Tian was puzzled for half a second but quickly came back to his senses. “His name is Shu Ziqin.”
“That’s not important,” Yang Yue waved his hand forcefully, “I figured out why he’s been bothering me with nonsense these past couple of days. He’s trying to make a move on me!”
Jing Tian was surprised. “You noticed?”
“Of course, it’s too obvious,” Yang Yue said, “This loser must have seen my achievements on Moments and wants to cling to me! Damn it, doesn’t he know his own worth? He’s as heavy as a weight and can’t carry himself! He’s not worthy!”
After he finished speaking, he angrily hit the bedboard. “Looks like I’ll have to go invisible online from now on!”
