Throughout the class, Jing Tian found himself lost in a fog.
With no understanding of the basic knowledge, it was hard to digest the advanced content even if he paid serious attention.
After class, Zhang Yuewei asked him if there was anything he didn’t understand.
Jing Tian thought to himself that if he were asked by Zhang Yuewei what he did understand, he could easily express: nothing.
Seeing his embarrassed and blank expression, Zhang Yuewei furrowed his brow nervously. “You don’t understand anything? It’s not that difficult… Have you been listening at all?”
Jing Tian forced a smile that was extremely strained and averted his gaze.
In his line of sight, Zheng Xunqian happened to pass by.
With his backpack on his back, just like before, he walked out of the classroom expressionlessly, without looking sideways.
Jing Tian stood dazed in front of the classroom door, while Zhang Yuewei next to him sighed exaggeratedly.
“Do you have time later?” he asked Jing Tian.
The two found an empty classroom and, after a deep conversation, Zhang Yuewei finally realized how bad Jing Tian’s foundation was.
He regretted it visibly.
Fearing that Zhang Yuewei would give up on him and he would be completely finished, Jing Tian quickly expressed his determination, emphasizing that his learning ability was not a problem and swearing to give it his all.
Afterward, he even took Zhang Yuewei out for a meal.
Zhang Yuewei gave him a pile of notes and materials, advising him to familiarize himself with them first and contact him if he couldn’t understand anything.
This person didn’t seem to have much patience.
Jing Tian felt uneasy but was also reluctant to voice any objections, so he obediently agreed.
“Zhang Yuewei? Having him teach you?” Yang Yue leaned over the edge of the bed, looking down at him, “Then you’re in trouble.”
Jing Tian keenly caught the disdain in Yang Yue’s tone.
“What’s wrong with this person?”
“He’s a utilitarian bootlicker, definitely trying to earn merits, wanting to use you as a performance metric.
This kind of person is much better at chanting slogans than doing actual work. When he can’t deliver, he’ll definitely shift all the blame onto you and then sing his own praises.”
Jing Tian vaguely felt it too. This person didn’t want to spend too much time on him.
“You might as well go find Zheng Xunqian.”
Yang Yue said.
Jing Tian looked down at his notebook, silent.
Ignoring other issues, Zheng Xunqian’s attitude today was obviously indifferent.
What’s wrong with this guy? He sounded so nice the other day, but now he’s acting like he couldn’t care less about me.
Jing Tian scratched his head, trying to shake off such unreasonable thoughts.
It’s because I didn’t initiate contact. Can’t blame others.
Their relationship was so strange that, for him now, not intersecting with each other anymore might actually be a good thing.
“Will you go to class tomorrow?” he asked Yang Yue, lifting his head.
“Of course,” Yang Yue nodded, “I’m afraid you won’t find the laboratory without me!”
Yang Yue, the liar.
Jing Tian stood between two buildings, caught in hesitation.
There were so many experimental buildings and laboratories in the engineering school. He guessed he must have been amazed when he first entered as a freshman.
Before Yang Yue left in a hurry after receiving a call, he roughly pointed him in the direction, but he couldn’t find the building number and couldn’t confirm it.
After hesitating for a while, he gathered up the courage to call Zhang Yuewei.
When he got through, Zhang Yuewei told him that he wasn’t here today.
This experimental class was coming to an end, and the teacher wasn’t strict. Some students who had completed their experiments couldn’t be bothered to come back.
Jing Tian thought, he probably wouldn’t see Zheng Xunqian today either.
Zhang Yuewei said that the laboratory they used was on the fourth floor of the building on the left, and after going up, it was the second room on the left.
Jing Tian looked up, thinking, was it facing the left side of the experimental building, or with the back to the left side?
Before he could ask, he already had an answer.
The building he was looking at had a window on the fourth floor that was open, and a figure that was not very clear but familiar to Jing Tian was leaning against the window, looking down.
As he locked eyes with the person, Jing Tian secretly told himself that this person seemed to have been watching me since a while ago.
Then, he tentatively raised his other hand and waved slightly.
Zheng Xunqian actually came.
There were quite a few people in the laboratory, and it seemed that most students hadn’t completed their experiments yet.
After finding his seat, Jing Tian was surprised to find that he had made some progress.
He briefly rejoiced for five minutes, then gradually realized that this was not good news.
Whether it was the incomplete experimental records or the messy equipment on the table, he couldn’t understand any of it.
It was better to start over, at least he could refer to the textbook and notes to figure out what he had done and what still needed to be done.
He didn’t recognize any of the students around him, and the only person in the entire laboratory he could call by name was Zheng Xunqian.
He lowered his body and secretly glanced in the direction where Zheng Xunqian was.
Zheng Xunqian was sitting by the window.
He still maintained the same posture as before, chin resting on his hand, looking out the window expressionlessly, looking relaxed.
Jing Tian withdrew his gaze, thinking, it turns out he wasn’t specifically looking at me.
Then… maybe I shouldn’t disturb him.
Throughout the entire experimental class, Jing Tian experienced bewilderment, anxiety, and agony, and finally fell into a state of frustration.
No matter how he manipulated things, nothing seemed right. The harder he tried, the more chaotic the results became. Trying to start over but unable to find a clue, unsure how to restore the settings.
When the bell rang, the students who had achieved their desired results left one after another, and the classroom gradually became empty.
If this continued, this class would be in trouble.
Jing Tian was unwilling to give up, struggling on the brink of despair, trying to salvage this mess.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned.
About twenty minutes later, the entire experimental classroom was left with only him.
Jing Tian despairingly rested his head on the desk.
Having never learned any of this, not understanding anything, trying to complete the practical class through rote memorization in a short period of time was too difficult for an average person like him.
He began to give up on himself.
Maybe it would be better to repeat the year, at least there would be a chance to start learning systematically from scratch and not waste precious university time completely.
This way, there would be no gain.
He buried his face in his arms, sighed deeply, and planned to get up and leave.
Just as he was about to get up, there was a sudden noise in front of him, and someone pulled the chair in front of him.
At the same time, he heard a familiar voice, “What a mess this all is.”
Jing Tian looked up anxiously, and sure enough, sitting in front of him, despite having left earlier, was Zheng Xunqian who had returned.
Zheng Xunqian’s gaze fell on the equipment in front of him, “Where’s Li Xiaoyue? Why isn’t he here to teach you?”
Jing Tian was puzzled for a moment before realizing that he might be referring to Zhang Yuewei.
With only three characters in the name, he got two of them wrong, and even the correct one was misplaced.
He seemed more amnesic than him.
“From the beginning, it was wrong,” Zheng Xunqian continued, “No matter how you mess with it on a wrong basis, you won’t get the results you want.”
Jing Tian blinked twice.
Zheng Xunqian tapped the equipment on the table with his finger, “…You were just messing around before.”
No wonder nothing matched up. He had dug himself into this hole.
But how did Zheng Xunqian know? Did he come to check on him on purpose?
“Need help?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
Jing Tian no longer hesitated and nodded quickly.
“Why didn’t you come to me then?” Zheng Xunqian asked again.
Jing Tian blushed and lowered his head. “I’m sorry, I didn’t want to bother you.”
“But you’re not ashamed to bother others.”
Zheng Xunqian said.
Jing Tian was stunned for a moment before asking, “You mean… Zhang Yuewei?”
He deliberately pronounced Zhang Yuewei’s three characters very slowly. After hearing it, Zheng Xunqian showed no reaction as if he had completely forgotten that he had just said the wrong name.
“Why ask him?” he asked Jing Tian.
Jing Tian honestly replied, “It was arranged by Teacher Xia.”
Zheng Xunqian clicked his tongue lightly and then said, “I’m a bit more reliable than him.”
Jing Tian pursed his lips, dared not meet his gaze, and lowered his eyes to the experimental records in front of him. “…Thank you.”
“Let’s start over,” Zheng Xunqian stood up and quickly adjusted the equipment, “This is quite simple.”
Jing Tian hurriedly stood up as well, extending his hand but not knowing how to help, so he nervously repeated, “Thank you!”
“Sit down,” Zheng Xunqian nodded his chin and pointed to the experimental records beside him, “You need to rewrite this yourself.”
Jing Tian quickly grabbed a pen.
Zheng Xunqian spoke again, but this time it was about something completely unrelated to the experiment, “Didn’t you write down my phone number?”
“…I sweated, and the ink smudged, so I couldn’t see it clearly,” Jing Tian apologized to him, “I’m sorry.”
After saying that, he immediately added, “Why don’t we exchange WeChat IDs instead!”
Zheng Xunqian glanced at him. “We already did.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know which one was you,” Jing Tian took out his phone and opened his friend list, “What’s your name?”
Zheng Xunqian recited a string of numbers, and after Jing Tian inputted them, an account popped up.
The note displayed a large character:
Jing Tian’s hand trembled suddenly.
“Is it there?” Zheng Xunqian asked.
Jing Tian felt guilty and quickly stuffed his phone back into his pocket. “Yes, yes!”
Afterwards, seeing Zheng Xunqian still looking at him, he quickly changed the subject, “Thank you so much today, if it weren’t for you…”
He hadn’t finished speaking before he was interrupted.
“This is the third time you’ve said that.”
“Uh,” Jing Tian raised his hand and scratched his chin, “… Why are you helping me?”
Zheng Xunqian lowered his head again, looked at the equipment he was arranging, and after a moment, said softly, “How can you ask such a stupid question.”
