Lingering Game
Lingering Game chapter 63

Zheng Xunqian returned to the dormitory once and sent over the organized questions.

Jing Tian hoped he would wait until he finished answering all of them before coming over, and although he agreed, he appeared outside Jing Tian’s room again in less than twenty minutes.

“Am I distracting you?” he asked Jing Tian.

Feeling helpless, Jing Tian made a request, hoping he would sit further away.

Ten minutes later, he overturned the request, hoping Zheng Xunqian would sit closer to him.

At least, he wanted him to sit where he could see him with just a glance.

Zheng Xunqian complied and moved his chair beside him, sitting down and asking, “Do you need any other services?”

Jing Tian kept his head down, looking at the draft paper. “Stop staring at me.”

“You’re the one who’s too concerned,” Zheng Xunqian said.

Jing Tian thought, Of course, I’m concerned about you.

Isn’t Zheng Xunqian the person he’s most concerned about in the world now?

Realizing this, Jing Tian felt a bit shy and overwhelmed with satisfaction.

“Why do you keep looking at me?” he asked Zheng Xunqian. “You’re too concerned about me too.”

Zheng Xunqian just smiled and didn’t deny it.

After a moment, seeing Jing Tian still not writing despite looking at the same line of text, he reached out and lightly tapped Jing Tian’s forehead. “Focus.”

Jing Tian touched his forehead and glanced at him, muttering under his breath, “Oh.”

Zheng Xunqian tapped him again. “I’ll allow you to ‘oh.'”

After finishing the questions and marking them, it was almost dinner time.

They were too lazy to go out, so they ordered takeout.

The school cafeteria itself didn’t offer delivery services, but some enterprising students set up platforms themselves, organizing teams to provide paid delivery services, which was very user-friendly. They ordered a fish head stew and specifically requested less pepper.

“Do you need to order anything else?” Jing Tian asked.

“No,” Zheng Xunqian said, “I also like lighter food lately.”

Seeing Jing Tian hesitate to speak, he placed the questions they had just corrected on the table between them and sighed, “Let’s focus on this first.”

The results weren’t ideal; judging by the scores, he barely passed, which was quite dangerous.

“These questions all have the correct approach and formulas,” Zheng Xunqian said to him, “but where did this inexplicable conclusion come from?”

Jing Tian awkwardly licked his lips.

Zheng Xunqian pointed at the paper. “Careless mistakes.”

Jing Tian lowered his head, touched his nose, and didn’t speak.

“…I will also be in the same classroom during the exam,” Zheng Xunqian looked at his profile, “don’t let yourself get distracted again.”

Jing Tian’s face turned red.

This guy obviously knew the reason from the beginning. Hearing it from him directly made Jing Tian feel a bit shameless.

“I’m hungry,” Jing Tian turned his head, “why hasn’t it arrived yet?”

“Delivery can be slow,” Zheng Xunqian said, “You should have said earlier; I would have gone to buy, but it’s already here now.”

Jing Tian immediately changed his tune, “I’m not that hungry.”

Zheng Xunqian stood up to tidy up the scattered books and papers on the table, “That person… When we had dinner together before, he said he used to deliver for you.”

After thinking for a while, Jing Tian realized he was talking about Chu Chen Tao and felt a bit unhappy, “Why bring him up again?”

After saying that, he suddenly realized something was wrong and asked, “You didn’t bring me food at noon because of this, did you…”

Zheng Xunqian turned his head calmly to the other side. “No.”

“There’s nothing about him worth your consideration,” Jing Tian emphasized.

“…What nonsense are you thinking?” Zheng Xunqian said.

Jing Tian thought, I hope I’m just imagining things.

He didn’t want Zheng Xunqian to go out of his way to deliver food for him. He would rather go hungry and stay with Zheng Xunqian or go together.

“If you want,” Jing Tian adjusted the angle of the chair to face him, “I can tell you everything I remember about him.”

Zheng Xunqian glanced at him.

According to Zheng Xunqian’s usual character and his behavior just now, he should have said “it doesn’t matter” or “there’s no need.” But he remained silent, looking indifferent.

“…You really want to hear it,” Jing Tian mercilessly teased.

After Zheng Xunqian finished tidying up and sat down again, he replied, “mmh.”

Suppressing a smile, Jing Tian stopped continuing this childish argument with him and said, “Before I knew you, I had a little… admiration for him. At that time, I didn’t really understand him. It’s more accurate to say that I placed my feelings on an imagined perfect object. After I had contact with him, the fantasy was quickly shattered.”

Zheng Xunqian nodded and continued to listen quietly.

“…I later came to dislike him, especially during the time before I lost my memory. It’s impossible for me to have any emotional involvement with him again,” Jing Tian said, his face slightly flushed, “You should know the reason.”

When he was still struggling and confused about everything around him just after losing his memory, Zheng Xunqian had repeatedly emphasized to him with such a strong attitude, “You like me.”

“I… I’m not a fickle person.”

Jing Tian said nervously, his heart pounding.

After saying that, he waited for a while, but Zheng Xunqian didn’t react at all.

He raised his leg and lightly kicked Zheng Xunqian.

“At least say ‘oh’!”

Zheng Xunqian, who had no expression on his face, unexpectedly burst out laughing.

With a smile on his face, he looked directly into Jing Tian’s eyes and said, “I know, because you only like me, right?”

Jing Tian turned his head away, red-faced, lips pursed tightly.

He secretly speculated whether Zheng Xunqian’s mention of this matter was to say this sentence.

This might be a trap, Zheng Xunqian was always smarter than him.

Jing Tian remained silent, passively resisting.

“Please,” Zheng Xunqian deviated from his usual behavior, leaned closer, and held his hand, speaking softly, “at least nod.”

It’s really unfair, Jing Tian thought, clearly Zheng Xunqian hadn’t expressed his feelings directly either.

Without a response, Zheng Xunqian gently shook his hand that he was holding, “do you?”

Zheng Xunqian had a completely different, and equally annoying, demeanor from Chu Chen Tao.

Jing Tian had no resistance to this.

“…Of course,” he said.

When the fish soup arrived, he was blushing and sitting on Zheng Xunqian’s lap.

With his lips against the skin of Jing Tian’s neck, in between kisses, Zheng Xunqian asked if they should go out together for a few days after the exams, to reward themselves for their hard work studying.

Jing Tian’s head was always fuzzy when being affectionate with him, but he could still understand the implication.

The point of the “reward” wasn’t going out to play, but rather to stay overnight.

His skin was already warm, perfectly concealing his embarrassment, nervousness, and anticipation at the moment.

As he nodded, there was a knock on the door from behind.

“Room 303! Room 303! Is this your soup?”

Zheng Xunqian took advantage of Jing Tian’s flustered state as he got up and hooked his little finger.

“Deal,” he said.

Jing Tian replied with his head lowered, “Oh.”

This word was surprisingly useful, no wonder Zheng Xunqian liked it.

Zheng Xunqian stayed until after eight o’clock, leaving only after Yang Yue came back.

Before leaving, he asked Yang Yue in front of Jing Tian, “Can I apply to switch to this dorm room?”

“No way!” Yang Yue immediately refused, “Unless I die! Stop thinking about sugar-coated bullets, I’ve already repaid you today!”

With a nod, Zheng Xunqian added, “But I will definitely show up in this dorm room often from now on.”

Yang Yue had no choice, “Alright alright.”

As soon as he left, Jing Tian, feeling guilty, immediately picked up the books on the table, “We were studying!”

Yang Yue frowned and looked at him in silence, pointing to his own neckline.

Jing Tian’s heart skipped a beat as he quickly raised his hand to cover his collarbones, then futilely pulled at his oversized collar, trying to cover up.

“No need to say anything,” Yang Yue said, “unless you want me to bark a few times to cheer you up.”

Originally, Jing Tian wanted to ask Yang Yue how the atmosphere was when he spent the whole afternoon with Shu Ziqin. Now, he felt embarrassed.

While Yang Yue went to freshen up, he took out the notebook from the cabinet, climbed onto the bed, and prepared to take a closer look.

Opening the first page, a word written:

— Help!

Jing Tian was surprised and turned the page, finding the same word with three exclamation marks added.

What’s going on? Could there be some hidden danger, something terrifying that his past self needed help with?

He quickly flipped to the next page, where only a few words were written, dominating the entire page.

— I should really dislike him!

Jing Tian chuckled as he continued flipping through the pages. On the next page, scattered repetitions of the same name were written.

Zheng Xunqian, Zheng Xunqian, Zheng Xunqian.

Some parts were crossed out, marked with large X’s, with derogatory words added.

Trash, idiot, messed up.

Jing Tian felt both amused and embarrassed.

Vague and abstract fragments floated in his mind. When he first noticed Zheng Xunqian, he seemed to really dislike him.

Perhaps it was because, at first glance, this person seemed somewhat similar to the past self that he had completely rejected.

Avoiding social interactions, being alone, seeming a bit like a bookworm, appearing very dull.

But Zheng Xunqian was fundamentally different from him.

Everything that Jing Tian found troublesome and resisted, Zheng Xunqian accepted calmly, even enjoying it. He had no intention of changing anything.

— He’s really strange. Does he know he’s strange? Does he not mind looking so strange?

As Jing Tian looked at the words in the notebook, he tried to recall his feelings when he wrote them originally.

With each page he turned, his face burned hotter, but at the same time, he couldn’t stop smiling.

He wanted to go back in time and tell his past self, who was panicking because of falling in love, that there was no need to struggle.

Whenever he looked at Zheng Xunqian, his gaze was fixed, and it was difficult to move away.

Jing Tian flipped through page after page, quickly finding the passages he had read before. At that time, he had accepted his feelings for Zheng Xunqian, experiencing doubts and anxieties every day.

— He must be annoyed with me, what should I do!

— I’m such an idiot for freaking out like this!

— Turns out he looks so good when he smiles, when will he smile at me?

— Is my name really that hard to remember? Really? Really? Really?

As he flipped further back, his mood worsened.

Jing Tian watched, feeling sorry for his past self.

Zheng Xunqian knew how to look directly into his eyes, revealing the gentlest smile. He would even hold his hand and act cute in his own unique way.

But his past self didn’t know, sinking into daily melancholy, tormenting himself.

—Give up, Jing Tian, it’s impossible. Don’t make him hate you even more.

—Try to ignore Zheng Xunqian’s challenge on the first day.

—Try to ignore Zheng Xunqian’s challenge on the second day.

—Try to ignore Zheng Xunqian’s challenge on the first day.

—Try to ignore Zheng Xunqian’s challenge on the first day.

—Help me!
