Lingering Game
Lingering Game chapter 72

Zheng Xunqian didn’t hear any response. He hastily tidied himself up and ran out of the bathroom.

“What’s wrong?” He walked up to Jing Tian and squatted down. “Where did you hit yourself?”

Jing Tian still didn’t respond.

Frowning with closed eyes, his brain was spinning, all senses dulled, and he felt disoriented. Everything seemed hazy, and surprisingly, the dull ache on his forehead from the impact didn’t bother him as much.

After about thirty seconds, his confused consciousness gradually cleared, and the discomfort faded away. Opening his eyes, the first thing he saw was Zheng Xunqian kneeling in front of him with only pants on.

“Are you okay?” Zheng Xunqian looked worried.

Jing Tian stared at him blankly, tightly biting his lips.

The two looked at each other for a few seconds, and Zheng Xunqian’s strong anxiety was evident in his reaction. He reached out to help him up. “Can you stand?”

Jing Tian didn’t refuse, using his help to get up.

When he got off the bed, he could only reach for the shirt on the bedside table. Besides this thin piece of clothing, he had nothing else on him. The shirt was long enough to barely cover his thighs.

His waist and legs still felt weak.

Zheng Xunqian helped him sit on the edge of the bed and asked again, “How do you feel?”

Jing Tian still didn’t answer, looking somewhat dull when he glanced at him.

Zheng Xunqian frowned, raised his hand, and held up a finger. “How many fingers do you see?”

Jing Tian looked away, lowering his head to his legs, and finally said, “Could you help me get my pants? Please?”

Zheng Xunqian nodded and searched around, finding Jing Tian’s pants on the corner sofa and handing them over.

Jing Tian hesitated as he held the pants, looking troubled.

One piece was missing.

Zheng Xunqian quickly realized it and started searching again.

It wasn’t appropriate to wear clothes that had been casually thrown on the ground overnight. Jing Tian felt awkward as he cleared his throat, saying, “Could you not stand here?”

“Why?” Zheng Xunqian was puzzled.

“It’s not convenient,” Jing Tian said, “for me to… dress.”

Zheng Xunqian widened his eyes slightly and, instead of leaving, walked up to Jing Tian. “You don’t remember again, do you?”

Jing Tian didn’t speak, just lowered his head, trying to cover his exposed thigh skin with his arms and the pants in his hands.

The air fell into an eerie silence.

Zheng Xunqian raised his hand, intending to touch Jing Tian’s forehead. In a slightly leftward area, not covered by his bangs, there was a slight swelling.

As soon as his fingertips touched the skin, Jing Tian instinctively moved back. Zheng Xunqian’s hand froze in mid-air.

Neither of them spoke, and after a few seconds of silence, Zheng Xunqian turned and walked towards the bathroom. “Get dressed, we’ll go to the hospital after.”

The examination result showed no issues.

The doctor joked that if they had come any later, the bump on his forehead would have almost healed.

Zheng Xunqian couldn’t believe the diagnosis. “But his memory is clearly…”

“I’m fine, it’s not a serious impact,” Jing Tian interrupted softly, “there’s nothing major, just a bit overwhelmed with sudden memories.”

After saying this, he deliberately glanced at Zheng Xunqian.

There was a hint of surprise in Zheng Xunqian’s expression.

The two walked out of the hospital shoulder to shoulder, neither saying a word.

They walked to the intersection, and Zheng Xunqian said, “I’ve called a car.”

Jing Tian didn’t look at him, muttering softly, “Didn’t we agree not to have any contact anymore? Why are you so concerned about me?”

Zheng Xunqian paused at his words.

Before he could respond, his phone rang. The driver he had booked had arrived and asked where they were.

“Let’s get in the car first, we’ll talk on the way back.” Zheng Xunqian hung up the phone and reached out to pull him.

Jing Tian stepped back half a step, avoiding his hand. Seeing him stiffen, he said again, “I can walk by myself.”

Zheng Xunqian sighed lightly, not forcing it anymore, and turned to walk ahead.

After they got into the car, he asked again, “Do you remember what happened yesterday?”

Jing Tian remained silent.

Zheng Xunqian patiently repeated, “Do you remember what happened yesterday? Have you forgotten?”

Jing Tian turned his head to look out the window. “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Zheng Xunqian rubbed his face with his hand, looking extremely helpless, and sighed deeply. “Oh my god.”

Back at school, they had just gotten off the car and walked a few steps when they unexpectedly met Yang Yue and Shu Ziqin.

“Oh, you’re willing to come back,” Yang Yue greeted them with a smirk from afar, not looking innocent at all. “Hey, your clothes look familiar. Why do they look almost the same as yesterday’s?”

Jing Tian and Zheng Xunqian silently looked at him, expressionless and silent.

Yang Yue walked up to them with a smirk, quickly realizing that something was wrong.

The atmosphere between these two didn’t seem like they were shy about being caught doing something.

Alerted, Yang Yue furrowed his brows and took a step back. “What’s going on with you two again?”

Zheng Xunqian turned his head expressionlessly to look at the green belt beside them. “We just came back from the hospital.”

Yang Yue widened his eyes, and Shu Ziqin beside him became anxious too. “What happened?”

Jing Tian shook his head, “I’m fine.”

Yang Yue scrutinized both of them, utterly puzzled, “Can you at least speak in a way that normal people can understand?”

“I’m not sick, nor uncomfortable, I just suddenly remembered a lot of things,” Jing Tian said.

Yang Yue widened his eyes, “Have you regained your memory? That’s a good thing, why do you look so dejected?”

Jing Tian licked his lips and lowered his head.

“Please, what are you doing? Can’t you talk properly?” Yang Yue was exasperated.

“…This morning, he accidentally fell and hit his head,” Zheng Xunqian said, “Now, he doesn’t remember what happened yesterday.”

Yang Yue was speechless.

“What does that mean?” Shu Ziqin, who knew nothing about Jing Tian’s past experiences, was confused, “Jing Tian, did you lose your memory?”

Yang Yue grabbed Shu Ziqin and dragged him in front of Jing Tian, “Do you still recognize this person?”

Jing Tian silently looked at Shu Ziqin, as if contemplating.

Shu Ziqin blinked innocently.

Seeing Jing Tian remain silent, Yang Yue understood and sighed deeply, shouting, “My predictions are always spot on!”

“What?” Shu Ziqin felt wronged, “What’s going on?”

“I told you earlier, you might recover your memory at any time and forget everything that happened during this period!” Yang Yue said, relieved, “But it’s okay, I know a lot this time, I can explain everything to you in detail.”

After speaking, he approached Jing Tian and whispered, “Quickly explain what you remember, I’ve been curious for a long time.”

Upon hearing this, Jing Tian glanced at Zheng Xunqian.

Zheng Xunqian’s expression wasn’t good, but he remained silent.

Yang Yue understood the situation and asked, “Do you need to talk to him alone?”

“No need,” Jing Tian responded quickly this time, “I don’t have anything to say to him.”

With that, he walked quickly towards the dormitory.

Yang Yue had originally planned to go see a recently released movie with Shu Ziqin but seeing Jing Tian like this, he decided to say goodbye to Shu Ziqin and accompany Jing Tian back to the dormitory first.

Feeling neglected, Shu Ziqin left dejectedly.

After walking to the dormitory for a while, Yang Yue whispered, “Zheng Xunqian is behind us.”

Although they didn’t live in the same building, they were in the same area, so bumping into each other was inevitable.

“Oh,” Jing Tian responded softly.

“Have you been checked? Is there anywhere uncomfortable?” Yang Yue asked again.

“I’m fine,” Jing Tian said, “Don’t worry.”

“Then why…” Yang Yue hesitated.

Jing Tian probably knew what he wanted to say.

Why did he look so troubled, not at all like his usual self, exuding an aura of depression.

“…May I ask, what is your relationship with Zheng Xunqian in your current memory?” Yang Yue asked.

Jing Tian didn’t immediately answer.

“Don’t you find it strange? Zheng Xunqian just said you fell right after waking up, that should have been in… a hotel, right?” Yang Yue hinted subtly, “Aren’t you curious why you both appeared in that place at the same time?”

Jing Tian looked embarrassed and glanced back quickly, seeing Zheng Xunqian looking at him from less than five meters away, then quickly turned his head back.

“Could it be that your current memory automatically connected with your past memories?” Yang Yue said, “Do you know what date it is today?”

“…Lower your voice,” Jing Tian said.

“Oh, and there’s an even more serious problem!” Yang Yue remembered something and because of his concern, his voice grew louder, “You’ve been studying hard during this time, and your grades have improved rapidly. Now, with this sudden setback, won’t you forget everything? That would be a huge loss!”

Jing Tian reached out and pulled him, lowering his voice to say, “Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten. I can manage.”

Yang Yue breathed a sigh of relief, but soon realized something was wrong.

“Do you know that you’ve been studying hard during this time? Do you know who taught you?” he asked.

Jing Tian licked his lips and answered, “I know.”

Yang Yue looked at him strangely.

“I haven’t lost my memory, but my memories are a bit confused, I can’t sort them out for a while,” Jing Tian said, “but I know everything.”

“Are you sure?” Yang Yue asked.

“Sure,” Jing Tian’s expression tightened, “…I’m deliberately lying to him.”

“…Huh?” Yang Yue was astonished, “What are you trying to do? Separate yourself from him?”

Jing Tian still lowered his head and walked quickly, only softly saying after a moment, “Not exactly.”

Yang Yue glanced back again, worriedly saying, “He looks really angry, be careful.”

Jing Tian bit his lip, held back for a moment, then said with a hint of helplessness, “But the things I remembered make me so angry.”

“…”

“My head is all messed up now. Those past things suddenly came up as if they just happened, pushing recent events to the back,” Jing Tian said, “Right now… I get angry when I see him.”
