“I can make Baijiu, corn liquor, and sorghum wine,” Wang Jinhe added, her tone confident.
“If that’s the case, we can give it a try. You can start production here, and when the liquor is ready, I’ll have my friends come and buy it,” Su Yu said, considering the potential benefits.
Xiao He could make a profit from selling the liquor, and they could both take a share.
Observing Su Yu’s sly expression, Wang Jinhe leaned in, curiosity piqued. “Are you plotting against your friends again?”
Su Yu shook his head. “Not this time. I was thinking that by letting them determine the pricing based on the liquor’s quality, we could earn twice the money. Is that a bad idea?”
Wang Jinhe gazed at Su Yu with a hint of amusement. Had he considered how his friends might feel about him trying to make extra money from them?
“Being friends with you is quite a challenge. They have to help you make money and be constantly on guard against getting swindled by you,” Wang Jinhe admitted with a chuckle.
She agreed that Su Yu’s idea of earning extra money wasn’t a bad one.
“Aren’t friends there to swindle?” Su Yu playfully raised his thumb, and Wang Jinhe laughed, saying, “I’m planning to visit the village chief later. I want to inquire if there are any capable people in the village. We might need help with the workshop.”
“Why’s that?”
“Our property here technically belongs to Hululu village, not Xie family village. Back when my reputation wasn’t great, they were willing to sell the land to us for building our house. The people there are quite nice. So, I thought that if they could help us, we should return the favor. If Xie family village folks can have the soup, they shouldn’t get left with nothing, right?” Wang Jinhe shared her thoughts with Su Yu.
“Great,” Su Yu fully agreed with Wang Jinhe’s plan. “Let’s have the village chief take us there.”
“It’s also an opportunity for us to purchase the land around here. This way, whether we want to build a house or a workshop, it’s feasible. Of course, the workshop should definitely be outside Xie family village’s territory. We don’t want to give those people any more room to complain,” Su Yu expressed his frustration with certain individuals in Xie family village. Some villagers were quite unpleasant, and he couldn’t understand why.
Wang Jinhe remained silent. People came in all sorts, and this was just a part of life. They would help those they could, but those with too much hostility were beyond assistance.
“Hopefully, the people in Hululu village will be easier to get along with,” Wang Jinhe said.
After encountering such challenging individuals in Xie family village, she couldn’t help but question their character. It seemed they could run into all kinds of extremes.
“Alright.”
The next morning, after breakfast, Su Yu and Wang Jinhe left Xiao Bao with Grandma Wang at home and headed to the village.
Due to the commotion during Wang Jinhe’s engagement ceremony, all the unmarried young women in the village now eyed Su Yu as if he were a juicy piece of meat they’d been starving for. They looked at him like a wolf that had just found a prime cut of meat, their gazes locked on him with a ravenous hunger.
Su Yu felt a sharp pinch on his waist and grimaced in pain. He turned to look at Wang Jinhe, who appeared innocent and as though she hadn’t done anything.
Seeing this, Su Yu’s mouth twitched. Wang Jinhe was quite the actress, pinching him and then pretending like nothing had happened. His waist was definitely bruised.
He reached over and took Wang Jinhe’s hand, then said, “Let’s go find the village chief.”
The jealous young girls nearby whispered among themselves.
“Why does Wang Jinhe get all his attention? What makes her so special that she’s showered with his affection?”
“Exactly! There are so many of us here, but he didn’t even look at anyone else. He just left, holding Wang Jinhe’s hand. What’s so great about her?”
“Well, she’s fairer, prettier, and the key is that she’s more capable than you all,” a young girl who looked around fourteen or fifteen years old suddenly spoke up.
“You…”
“I’m just stating facts, right? She stands there like a noble lady, while the rest of you look like her maidservants. And you’re still thinking about her fiancé? They already have a child together, so give it up.”
The girls who were called out didn’t take the comments lightly and glared at the outspoken girl.
“I saw you’ve got a little crush on someone, that’s why you’re saying such things. What are you pretending for?”
The young girl pointed at herself and rolled her eyes dramatically. “Oh, I’m really thankful to you. I don’t have those kinds of thoughts at all.”
As soon as they see someone in a happy relationship, they’re trying to flirt here. Do they even acknowledge them? They don’t care at all, that’s what it’s like.
It’s just because they didn’t feel embarrassed that they dared to look at them that way.
After reaching a secluded spot, Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe, complaining, “Darling, why did you pinch me so hard earlier? My waist will definitely be bruised.”
“Attracting to many butterflies,” Wang Jinhe replied with a straight face.
Su Yu pointed to himself, feeling quite wronged, “I haven’t, what does it have to do with me?”
Why should he be scrutinized by those women with such disgusting looks?
“Hmph, I say there is, so there is.”
“Alright, alright, you can say whatever you want. Don’t worry about these people; they have nothing to do with me. No matter how they look at me, I’m yours,” Su Yu reassured Wang Jinhe earnestly.
Rolling her eyes at Su Yu, Wang Jinhe retorted, “You’re just talking nonsense here.”
Su Yu felt like he was really in a tough spot, and to be honest, Wang Jinhe didn’t believe him either.
As he watched Wang Jinhe walk towards the village chief’s house, Su Yu turned his head and glanced back, his eyes slightly chilly. These people better not cause trouble in front of Xiao He, or they’ll have no one to blame but themselves if he gets tough.
Striding after Wang Jinhe, Su Yu was whispering to her, causing Wang Jinhe to roll her eyes at him several times. Seeing Wang Jinhe’s reactions, Su Yu not only didn’t get angry, but he also started to smile.
Observing Su Yu’s inexplicable laughter, Wang Jinhe regarded him as if he were a simpleton. What was so amusing that it made him laugh so heartily?
Once they entered, Wang Jinhe saw Xie Wanwan there. Xie Wanwan felt embarrassed when she saw Wang Jinhe, and she also seemed somewhat at a loss.
Compared to her own uneasiness, Wang Jinhe seemed as if nothing had happened at all, as if she were completely unfazed. “Is Uncle Village Chief at home? We have something to discuss with him.”
“I… my father has gone outside, and my mother is still in the vegetable garden; it will be a while before she returns,” Xie Wanwan awkwardly replied.
Su Yu glanced at Wang Jinhe and then at Xie Wanwan, feeling that something had certainly transpired between these two. Since they entered, the village chief’s daughter had appeared restless.
