Wang Jinhe held the peach in her hand and exerted some force, splitting it in two effortlessly.
Su Yu, observing the peach in Wang Jinhe’s hand, suddenly felt a chill run down her spine.
Seeing that Su Yu had been eyeing the peach in her hand, Wang Jinhe thought he wanted to eat it. She split it in half and tasted it herself.
The sweet and crisp texture surprised Wang Jinhe. “The taste is indeed excellent. We won’t go wrong by buying these.”
Wang Jinhe and Su Yu inspected all the orchards where peaches were grown. At each stop, they picked a peach to taste, and they were almost uniformly good; there were no noticeably poor-tasting ones.
“We’ve seen the peaches and the jujubes (Chinese dates). Tomorrow morning, we’ll bring people to pick abatch. About a month later, we’ll come back to pick the unripe batch. Are you all okay with this arrangement?” Wang Jinhe asked the villagers around her seriously.
Everyone nodded in agreement, and Wang Jinhe assured them, “Don’t worry, if we can’t finish picking them tomorrow, we’ll continue until this batch is all harvested, so you have nothing to be concerned about.”
The villagers all smiled and nodded, their expressions deeply moving.
One of the villagers added, “Miss, you can rest assured; we trust you completely.”
“Alright, we’ll get going to make arrangements for people and transportation. We’ll come early tomorrow, so please prepare any tools that can help with carrying the peaches.”
“Sure, no problem.”
The villagers accompanied the three of them to the village’s outskirts, staying until they were no longer visible. Then they nervously asked, “All our fruits can be sold this year, right?”
“Yes, they can all be sold.”
“That’s fantastic! This year, we won’t have to watch our fruits rot on the ground,” someone said, wiping away a tear.
For years, no one had ever come to assure them that all their fruits would be picked. Now, their fruits could finally be sold in their entirety.
One of them inquired, “What about Li Bo’s Jujube? Can they be sold?”
They were aware that Li Bo’s Jujube had been unsellable for years, ending up rotting on the ground.
“They can be sold. The lady said these Jujubes can be used for medicinal purposes, and tomorrow, she’s bringing a doctor to take a look,” Li Bo replied, his eyes moist.
This year, their family’s situation will finally improve, and during the New Year, their children wouldn’t have to watch others with envy.
“That’s great.”
On the way back with Xie Kui, the Hu Lin expressed his gratitude to the two. “Su Yu, Xiao He, we’re really thankful to you. Every year, our village has trouble selling the fruits, and life has been tough.”
Wang Jinhe didn’t say anything, but you could tell from the village’s housing that they were indeed struggling.
“But now, it’s better, and with your help, there won’t be any problems,” the village Chief said with a smile.
“If their fruits continue to be of this quality every year, we’ll buy them all,” Su Yu said directly.
Having tasted the Jujube and peaches, they were truly delicious, and they believed they could sell them well.
“In that case, I’ll thank you on behalf of the villagers of Hululu.”
Back in Xie Family Village, Su Yu asked Yuan Bao to summon some people to come over for fruit picking the next day, and when they went to town, they also asked Huang Qi to come over in the morning.
Wang Jinhe watched Yuan Bao ride away on his horse and asked, “Has he completely recovered from his injury? You let him work every day like this?”
Su Yu sighed, “If I don’t let him work, he’ll be unhappy.”
Wang Jinhe raised an eyebrow skeptically, “Is that really true?”
“Of course it’s true. Yuan Bao can’t sit still. Back at my family’s place, when I told him to rest for a few days, it was as if I was taking his life away. If I force him to rest here, I don’t know how angry he’d get.”
“Sometimes, staying busy is actually better.”
“You’re absolutely right.”
As they entered the house, Xiao Bao ran out from inside, clinging to Su Yu’s leg, “Daddy, why did you and Mommy stay away for so long? I missed you both.”
Su Yu reached down to pick up Xiao Bao and playfully pinched his nose, “Daddy and Mommy went to the neighboring village to look at some fruits today. Tomorrow, we’ll all go together to pick some fruits. Would you like that?”
Xiao Bao nodded vigorously, “Yes, I want to go.”
“Alright, then we’ll go together tomorrow.”
“Okay.”
Grandma Wang overheard Su Yu mentioning that they went to the neighboring village to see fruits, and she asked, “Is it the fruits from Hululu Village?”
“Yes.”
“Are you planning to buy their fruits?” Grandma Wang asked in surprise, looking at the two of them.
After settling down with Xiao Bao in his lap, Su Yu spoke, “Both Xiao He and I tasted the fruits today, and the flavor is excellent. Buying them will surely be a profitable deal.”
“Is that so? In that case, we can definitely help out. Hululu has been struggling for years because they couldn’t sell their fruits,” Grandma Wang remarked.
Every year, they heard about Hululu Village facing food shortages due to unsold fruits. This year, with Su Yu and Jinghe buying the fruits, things should be different, right?
In the evening, when Yuan Bao returned, he exchanged some copper coins and a few silver pieces. Xiao Bao was surprised to see so many copper coins in the box, and he exclaimed, “There are so many copper coins!”
“Yes, indeed. There are a lot of copper coins. Xiao Bao, do you like copper coins?”
“No, I don’t like Xiao coins. I like gold, shiny and glittering gold,” Xiao Bao said, and his eyes sparkled at the thought of gold.
When Su Xi returned from the fields, he overheard Xiao Bao talking about liking gold and quickly approached to take him from Su Yu’s arms. “What nonsense are you filling Xiao Bao’s head with now?”
Su Yu pointed at himself and said, “We haven’t done anything.”
“Do you think I’ll believe that? Xiao Bao, let me tell you, when you become an official, it’s a good thing. Let’s focus on studying and becoming officials in the future,” Su Xi expressed his strong opinion about Su Yu’s previous decision to abandon studying and focus on business, as he couldn’t allow him to lead their precious grandson down the same path.
Xioa Bao firmly shook his head and said, “I don’t want to be an official. I like gold. I want to earn lots of gold like Dad.”
Su Xi, in despair, asked, “How come you like gold? Weren’t you fond of studying?”
Xiao Bao tilted his head and looked at Su Xi with an innocent expression. He innocently replied, “I like studying, but I like gold even more.”
Su Xi took a deep breath, realizing he couldn’t scold Xiao Bao. Instead, he turned to give Su Yu a fierce glare, making him feel unfairly targeted.
Su Yu asked, “Grandpa, why are you looking at me like that?”
“Why did Xiao Bao inherit your love for money? Can’t he just inherit your talent for studying?” Su Xi was proud of his grandson’s academic skills, but he believed that Su Yu’s business acumen was even more impressive.
Su Yu shrugged, indicating that he didn’t know the reason either.
