“Headed to the melon field. The melons there have ripened a lot these past few days, so they want to pick a couple to eat,” Su Yu explained.
“How about I have Yuan Xu take some people with us to pick melons today?” Su Yu suggested.
“Melons? Wasn’t Xiao Bao planning to take Xiao Zhi to pick peaches? Won’t he be upset if we go pick melons instead?” Wang Jinhe raised her eyebrows, looking at Su Yu. She knew how to handle Xiao Bao to avoid making him unhappy.
Su Yu then remembered that Xiao Bao had mentioned picking peaches to Zhang Zhilin earlier.
“In that case, let’s go pick peaches today, melons tomorrow, and we can pick dates the day after tomorrow. The peaches should be ready today, so we can start with those,” Su Yu quickly rearranged the schedule. He noticed that the children seemed to enjoy these activities.
“That sounds good,” Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile.
After dinner, Su Yu and Wang Jinhe indeed took Xiao Bao and Zhang Zhilin to pick peaches. As soon as they arrived at the orchard, Zhang Zhilin was amazed by the oversized peaches. “These peaches are huge.”
Xiao Bao nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, yes! These peaches are really big. The uncles here gave me many before, they’re delicious!”
“Brother, let’s go pick. I know which ones to pick,” Xiao Bao said, leading Zhang Zhilin towards the orchard. The owner of the orchard, seeing the two children running inside, chuckled.
“Young Master, please be careful. Don’t fall,” he called after them.
Su Yu watched the two kids running off and sighed. “Xiao He, please stay here. I’ll take the kids to pick the fruits.”
“Alright.”
After running around the orchard for the entire morning, Zhang Zhilin finally revealed a childlike smile once more. Looking at Xiao Bao, who was also smiling beside him, Zhang Zhilin realized that he still preferred staying at his aunt’s house (Wang Jinhe’s). It was fun and relaxing here.
“Did you have fun?” Wang Jinhe asked with a smile during their mealtime.
Both children nodded eagerly. “It was fun.”
After finishing their meal, the two of them ran to the yard to play. Su Yu glanced at them but didn’t interfere; there was no need for that here.
As they were poking ants under a tree, a woman suddenly burst in from outside. Seeing the two children about to be attacked, Su Yu swiftly threw his shuttlecock, hitting the woman’s leg. She tumbled to the ground.
The sudden intrusion startled everyone; they rushed out to check on the children. Seeing that both kids were unharmed, they all breathed a sigh of relief.
Hulin trembled as she saw the newcomer. “Why is it you again, Lin Shi?”
Didn’t he make it clear yesterday? How dare this woman shamelessly come here again.
Lin Shi raised her head fiercely, her eyes filled with resentment. “Hu Lin, you’re truly ruthless. You framed Lin Zhi, and now he has to stay inside for three years. How are our family’s children and the elderly going to survive these days?”
After she went to see Lin Zhi with money today, she found out that he had been framed by Hu Lin, and the county magistrate actually imprisoned him. How would she survive these three years?
Thinking about the old and young people at home, Lin Shi felt a sense of despair. She could only come to find trouble with him.
Hu Lin frowned, looking at Lin Shi. “I already made it clear to you yesterday. It’s not me plotting against him; it’s his own problem. If he didn’t have evil intentions, he wouldn’t have ended up in this situation today.”
“You… I don’t care, it’s you who ruined Lin Zhi,” Lin Shi was now completely irrational, not willing to listen to reason, which frustrated Hu Lin.
“If you continue to cause trouble like this, don’t blame me for kicking you out of the village,” Hu Lin said sternly, his face cold.
Hearing this, Lin Shi stared at Hu Lin defiantly. “You dare.”
Finally, her gaze shifted to Su Yu and Wang Jine. She looked at them with resentment. “Why did you take their fruits? If you hadn’t taken the fruits from Hululu Village and left ours alone, we wouldn’t have ended up like this today! You all deserve to die.”
In the midst of their conversation, Lin Shi was about to approach the two children again. At that moment, Xiao Bao and Zhang Zhilin quickly ran to Su Yu’s side, peeking out from behind him. This person was so scary.
“Daddy, she’s so mean, she wants to bully me and brother,” Xiao Bao said indignantly. “Daddy, does she want us to buy fruits from their family too? Can we not buy from them?”
Su Yu had never refused Xiao Bao’s requests before, especially when it was just a matter of not buying fruits from one family. “Sure, we’ll do as you say. If you say we won’t buy, then we won’t buy.”
With this statement, Su Yu had effectively closed off any future opportunities for Lin Shi’s family. Even if their fruits were of the highest quality next year, Su Yu wouldn’t consider buying from them.
Hu Lin didn’t speak up to defend Lin Shi; all of this was her own doing.
“Daddy is the best, the best in the whole world,” Xiao Bao said with a grin.
Su Yu shook his head in resignation. When did his son become such a smooth talker?
He pinched Xiao Bao’s nose playfully, saying, “You little flatterer.”
Xiao Bao pouted, looking displeased. “I’m not!”
“Of course, Xiao Bao isn’t. Xiao Bao is the best child,” Su Yu said half-heartedly.
While father and son enjoyed their playful banter, Lin Shi was left dumbfounded. She realized that all the fruits from their village were now being sold to Su Yu. If Su Yu decided not to buy from them, they wouldn’t be able to sell their fruits at all.
“No, you can’t treat my family like this. You haven’t suffered any losses, and my man has been unjustly imprisoned for three years. How can you still treat me like this? If you dare, I’ll… I’ll smash my head right here,” Lin Shi gritted her teeth, determined to resist.
“Suit yourself, as long as you don’t dirty someone else’s place,” Su Yu said nonchalantly.
One indifferent remark left Lin Shi utterly dumbfounded. Wasn’t she expecting them to be alarmed and stop her from such threats? Why did their reaction differ from her expectations?
Su Yu had been doing business with others since he was ten. He had seen all kinds of tricks and was not easily fooled by Lin Shi’s petty threats.
Wang Jinhe rubbed her head and couldn’t help but say with a wry smile, “At least give them a chance to put on a show. With one sentence, you’ve completely blocked all of their options.”
“I’m the type of person who hates leaving a way out for others,” Su Yu raised an eyebrow and said, “Don’t you know that?”
Dealing with people like her required hitting them where it hurt the most, without mercy.
Wang Jinhe shrugged, “You’re right. Such people aren’t suitable for leaving any room for maneuver. If we do, we might face trouble later.”
Lin Shi shivered, listening to their conversation. Through gritted teeth, she said, “You’re heartless for the sake of wealth, even trying to take my life.”
Wang Jinhe looked at Lin Shi as if she were mentally challenged, “Didn’t you say you wanted to die yourself? What does that have to do with us?”
Is this old woman suffering from a major illness? She seems to have forgotten everything she said herself.
