“Who do you think you are to insult others casually? Also, what’s your relationship with the person who disgraced the Wang family? Back then, apart from the Luo family, the Jiang family’s curses were the harshest. Looking back, with the way the Jiang family acted, one would think Wang Jinhe had desecrated their ancestors’ graves.”
“You…” Jiang Shi was fuming.
“Let’s think about it. Wang Jinhe’s family has always lived at the end of the village. Except for when Gu Shi comes out to buy daily necessities, they never set foot into the territory of the Xie family village. So, who spread the news about Wang Jinhe being pregnant before marriage?” The person who pointed out the problem suddenly spoke.
Everyone looked at each other, carefully recalling the situation at that time.
At that time, Wang Jinhe had been pregnant for just over two months, showing no signs and not appearing in the village. She stayed at home doing embroidery. So, who had spread the news?
Indeed, the news of Wang Jinhe’s pregnancy had been mysteriously discovered, leading to everyone targeting her family, and eventually, they even wished for her death.
All present were dumbfounded, having no idea how this had happened.
“If you don’t want others to know, don’t do things that would expose you. She brought this on herself,” Jiang Shi spoke without thinking.
“If even the girl’s parents didn’t know, how did the person who leaked the news find out?”
One statement left everyone speechless. Indeed, how did someone find out about something even the girl’s parents were unaware of?
The more they thought about it, the more it seemed like an unsolved mystery.
“No matter how it was known back then, our treatment of her was indeed wrong. Moreover, someone later said that even the emperor doesn’t allow the erection of chastity memorial arches or the dunking of people in pig cages. If Xiao He had died back then, we would have all been murderers.”
The mention of being murderers sent a chill down everyone’s spines. Jiang Shi’s eyes flickered slightly, expressing strong discontent. “I think you’re just fear-mongering. Wang Jinhe is fine now. Don’t label yourself unnecessarily. What’s the point?”
“It’s not labeling; it’s not about whether she’s alive and well now. Just because she’s alive doesn’t mean we can pretend this never happened. This is something that can’t be justified, no matter where you go.” The man considered for a long time, and with the doubts he had just thought about, he truly realized his mistake. He decided to go with his family, including his wife and children, and the elderly mother who had also cursed Wang Jinhe, to apologize to her.
At the doorstep of Wang Jinhe’s house, he didn’t show any timidity and gently knocked on the door.
Qiuyi opened the door, frowning at the group. “What are you here for?”
“We’ve come to apologize to Jinhe,” the man said sincerely.
After the man explained, his family finally realized the gravity of their mistake. They had nearly become accomplices, almost murderers.
Now, all they cared about wasn’t making money; they just wanted to sincerely apologize to Wang Jinhe.
“Yes, miss, could you please tell Jinhe? We’ve come to apologize sincerely,” the old woman looked at Autumn Meaning and spoke.
Qiuyi looked at one person, then another, feeling that they had some sincerity left. She turned and went to find Wang Jinhe.
Wang Jinhe was discussing matters related to the liquor workshop with Su Yu when she heard Qiuyi’s words, feeling somewhat surprised.
“Come to apologize to me?”
Qiuyi nodded. “The whole family, from the elderly to the children, is here.”
“I’ll go out and take a look.” Wang Jinhe got up and went outside. Seeing this, Su Yu felt a bit uneasy and hurriedly followed.
When the two reached the main gate and saw the people standing there, Wang Jinhe recognized the man. His name was Xie Genshu, from the Xie family village, not far from the village chief’s house.
“Do you have something to say coming here?” Wang Jinhe asked with a slightly cold expression.
Xie Genshu approached and said earnestly, “Jinhe, our family once cursed you and said those words about dunking you and your child in a pig cage. We didn’t understand back then. We are truly sorry for hurting you and your family in that way.”
The old lady also walked over to apologize. “Jinhe, girl, we’re truly sorry for what happened back then. We shouldn’t have come to bother you without distinguishing right from wrong. I apologize to you here. I’m sorry.”
Xie Genshu’s child suddenly walked over. “Sister, can you call Xiao Bao out? I used to curse Xiao Bao, and I know I was wrong. I want to apologize to Xiao Bao.”
Wang Jinhe looked at this family in a daze. She could feel that they were genuinely apologizing, without any pretense or ulterior motives. They came solely to apologize.
For a moment, Wang Jinhe didn’t know what to say, feeling a bit heavy-hearted yet relieved.
She wondered if the original soul still lingered in her body. When her family apologized in front of her, she felt a force, as if a heavy burden had been lifted. She felt considerably lighter.
Wang Jinhe looked at them, opened her mouth, not knowing how to respond. Finally, she turned to Qiuyi beside her. ” Qiuyi, go bring the young master out.”
Qiuyi brought Xiao Bao out. “Mommy, did you call me for something? I still need to practice my writing.”
“Yeah, it’s not Mommy looking for you; someone wants to see you,” Wang Jinhe whispered, pointing to the child beside Xie Genshu.
The child, upon seeing Xiao Bao, quickly walked over and said earnestly, “Xiao Bao, I shouldn’t have cursed you before, and I said really hurtful things. I know I was wrong now. I’m sorry.”
Xiao Bao looked at Wang Jinhe and Su Yu in confusion, feeling somewhat overwhelmed.
Since he could remember things, everyone he encountered had been cursing him, calling him a wild child, saying he had no father, and using all sorts of harsh words. But today, someone who had cursed him before was actually apologizing?
This made Xiao Bao unsure of how to face it.
Su Yu, seeing Xiao Bao’s confusion, walked over and crouched in front of him, asking, “Xiao Bao, do you want to forgive him?”
“Daddy, I don’t know.”
“Do you think he’s sincerely apologizing to you?” Su Yu didn’t force Xiao Bao to consider the question directly but approached it differently.
Xiao Bao looked at Su Yu, bewildered. After a long time, he nodded. He could feel that this person was genuinely apologizing to him.
After thinking for a long time, Xiao Bao looked at the child. “I forgive you. Daddy once said that in life, people will make many mistakes. Making mistakes is not scary, but what’s frightening is finding excuses for oneself. Daddy also said that as long as you can realize your mistakes and correct them, such a person can be forgiven.”
The child who apologized looked surprised at Xiao Bao, seemingly not expecting that Xiao Bao would actually forgive him.
“Xiao Bao, I’m really sorry.”
