Upon hearing the news, everyone in the family was delighted. “Oh, Xiaoyu has a child now! When will they come back for the wedding?”
“It might be at Xiao He’s family’s place. They won’t come back here for the time being.”
Upon hearing this, everyone felt a bit disappointed, but considering Su Qin and his wife’s absence, it wasn’t surprising.
“That’s fine. When the time comes, we’ll send our congratulations, and as for meeting them, we’ll have the chance eventually.”
“Agreed.”
As Su Jiu left the Su family, he coincidentally encountered Su Qin and his wife returning from outside.
Seeing Su Jiu and his wife about to approach, Su Jiu moved away from them. Yang Shanshan stared blankly, watching Su Jiu’s departing figure.
“Su Jiu, stop right there!” Yang Shanshan called out angrily.
Su Jiu turned to look at Yang Shanshan. “What do you want to say? Or are you thinking of laying hands on me again?”
“Like when you were beaten with a whip soaked in chili water until you were half-dead?” Su Jiu looked at Yang Shanshan mockingly, taunting her.
Hearing this, Yang Shanshan’s face turned somewhat pale. “Must you bring that up?”
“Oh, let’s not bring that up. Let’s talk about something else. Did you ever feel guilty for causing Rourou’s death all these years? Didn’t you have nightmares when you slept at night?” Su Jiu looked into Yang Shanshan’s eyes, speaking each word deliberately.
Yang Shanshan took a few steps back. Upon hearing Su Jiu’s words, she was at a loss for words.
“Su Jiu, it’s been so many years since that incident. Must you treat me like this? All for a woman who’s been dead for so many years.” Yang Shanshan gritted her teeth, looking at Su Jiu with some unwillingness.
Su Jiu laughed heartily, watching Yang Shanshan. “I’ll never forget this incident in my entire life. You’re the one who killed my wife, and I’ll never forgive you.”
“Of course, Xiao Yu won’t forgive you either. As for Xuan Xuan… you can go and ask her if she’s willing to forgive you,” Su Jiu taunted.
Yang Shanshan and Su Qin had inflicted irreparable harm on the three siblings. They couldn’t do anything to the two, but they could sever ties with them.
“Don’t talk about knowing your mistake. You have no idea what the mistake is. Yang Shanshan, I’m telling you, every time I see you, I wish I could make you accompany Rourou in death.” Su Jiu lowered his head, concealing the killing intent in his eyes.
Yang Shanshan sensed the change in Su Jiu’s aura. Subconsciously feeling this shift, she took a step back. Just as she was about to say something, Su Jiu spoke again, “Let’s just continue as we are now, not bothering each other.”
After saying this, he left for the palace without waiting for any response.
Due to Su Jiu’s delay, Yang Shanshan and the others missed the news about Su Yu’s marriage. Later, when everyone found out that Su Yu had gotten married, the parents were still oblivious.
In the palace, the Empress Dowager was talking to the Emperor, “The canned fruits sent from the Emperor’s side have been consumed by both me and the Empress. After eating them for twelve days, I feel my health has improved quite a bit. It seems this stuff is indeed effective. You can have them send some more, but don’t forget to compensate them.”
“If you give her some land, she might be even happier.” The idea of giving money might not be as appealing.
Seeing the Empress Dowager’s confusion, the Emperor explained the situation, and after hearing it, the Empress Dowager couldn’t help but laugh.
“This girl is quite interesting. Since she likes land, send her some. Have the imperial physician come and check the Empress’s pulse, see how she’s doing.” The Empress’s health hadn’t been great since she became pregnant, and this approach seemed to be the most effective.
The most noticeable change was probably the significant improvement in her once pale complexion.
“Yes.”
Soon, the imperial physician arrived. Seeing the Empress’s rosy complexion, he was surprised.
After checking the Empress’s pulse, the imperial physician looked at her with amazement. “Empress, have you been eating anything special lately? Your health has improved, and the condition of the child in your belly is much better. Now, when you have free time, it would be good to take more walks. It’s beneficial for your health.”
The Empress’s condition had been quite severe before, forcing her to rest in bed. Only recently had she slowly begun to recover.
Hearing the physician’s words, both of them became even more eager for the goods from Wang Jinhe’s side.
“That’s good.” The Empress reached out to touch her belly, a serene smile on her face. After several years, she was finally expecting another child from the Emperor.
“Emperor, when you go to Su Jiu later, ask Su Yu’s side to send over some more. We have plenty of wine here, but the Empress can’t wait. Her health needs attention.” The Empress Dowager, looking very concerned, spoke to the Emperor.
“Su Jiu has returned home. When he comes over, I’ll talk to him.”
After spending a considerable amount of time with them at the Empress Dowager’s place, the Emperor returned to his study. By the time he returned, Su Jiu had already come back.
“Su Jiu, your timing is perfect. I have something for you to do.” The Emperor noticed a bit more smile on Su Jiu’s face.
Following the Emperor into the study, Su Jiu asked with a serious expression, “What is it, Your Majesty?”
“You don’t have to be so serious. It’s about the Empress and the Empress Dowager. The canned fruit you brought back were indeed very effective. The Empress’s health and the condition of the child in her belly have improved significantly. The Empress Dowager wants you to tell Su Yu and see if they can send more. It’s not urgent for the wine here, but the Empress can’t wait. Her health needs attention.” The Emperor didn’t issue a strong command to Su Jiu; instead, he discussed it with him.
Su Jiu thought it was something else, but it turned out to be this.
“Alright, when I visited, Xiao He had already mentioned that. If needed, just let me know, and I’ll write a letter. She will make arrangements for Yuan Bao to deliver it.” Su Jiu explained with a smile.
The Emperor was relieved. “With your assurance, I feel at ease.”
“Afterward, Xie Chen may come to discuss the marriage.” Su Jiu hadn’t informed the Emperor about this yet. As there was still no news from the Xie family, he wasn’t reassured; instead, he was more concerned.
“Marriage? Who do they want me to arrange a marriage for?” The Emperor frowned, displaying obvious displeasure. It was evident he held no favor for the Xie family.
“Xie Chen and Su Yu.”
The Emperor looked at Su Jiu in surprise. How did these two end up being connected?
Furrowing his brows, Su Jiu explained the situation to the Emperor. After hearing it, the Emperor became even more displeased with the Xie family. “Knowing that someone already has a spouse and child, they still want to snatch away their husband. This is truly something the Xie family is capable of.”
The concubine Ling Gui had done this, and now Xie Chen was attempting the same. What else could the Xie family do besides such actions?
“Afterward…”
“Don’t worry. Even if you didn’t mention it, I wouldn’t agree to it,” the Emperor interrupted. He wouldn’t have agreed in the past, and now he was even less likely to do so.
Wang Jinhe was the one who helped improve the health of the Empress and the Empress Dowager. Why would he cause trouble for them?
Hearing this, Su Jiu was completely reassured.
“Emperor, why don’t you just arrange a marriage between Xiao He and Xiao Yu?”
