Chapter 239: Unexpected Guests

And to think, how many more friends could he possibly have? Was it necessary for this guy to be so petty?

However, when Su Yu’s so-called friends arrived, she realized just how many there were.

As the wedding date approached, guests from outside slowly trickled in. The first to arrive was Duan Chenxuan.

Duan Chenxuan, accompanied by a few friends who had also received the invitation, looked at the house in front of him with some complexity.

He never expected this guy to get married in such a low-key manner.

Yuan Bao, upon seeing them, hurriedly led the group to the adjacent courtyard. “This side is the residence of Young Madam, and this side belongs to Young Master. Young Master said for you all to stay here.”

“At least this guy has a conscience,” Duan Chenxuan reluctantly nodded in satisfaction.

Following Yuan Bao into the guest room, Duan Chenxuan frowned as he observed the room’s layout. This guy did put some thought into it.

After resting and taking a short nap, Duan Chenxuan went out to find the others.

“Let’s go find that guy and see how he’s been lately.”

Just as they stepped out, a smaller version of Su Yu came running towards them.

“This… this…” One of them was so startled. How was it that right after preparing for the wedding, such a big child appeared?

“Little guy, who are you?” Duan Chenxuan squatted down, looking at the child running towards them.

Xiao Bao tilted his head, looking at the person in front of him, and said in a childish voice, “Daddy asked me to come and invite you all to grandpa’s house for dinner.”

Daddy? This was Su Yu’s son?

“You’re Su Yu’s son?” Duan Chenxuan looked at Xiao Bao in astonishment.

Xiao Bao pointed to his own face, saying, “Don’t I look like my daddy?”

After everyone saw his face, there was no doubt that he was Su Yu’s son. Did this uncle, who didn’t seem very bright, really be friends with his daddy?

Duan Chenxuan stared at Xiao Bao’s face; it was strikingly similar to Su Yu’s. Anyone who saw it wouldn’t doubt the connection.

“Let’s go find your daddy,” Duan Chenxuan lifted Xiao Bao and headed to the adjacent courtyard.

Su Yu and Wang Jinhe were discussing wedding matters when they saw Duan Chenxuan carrying Xiao Bao in. Su Yu’s eyebrows raised slightly, “It seems like you two are getting along well.”

“Su Yu.” Duan Chenxuan gritted his teeth, looking at Su Yu. If someone didn’t know better, they’d think Su Yu had done something unforgivable.

“What’s the matter?” Su Yu raised an eyebrow at Duan Chenxuan.

Duan Chenxuan, infuriated by Su Yu’s indifferent demeanor, became even more upset, “When you invited us to your wedding, you conveniently forgot to mention you have such a big son.”

“What’s the big deal? You see him now, don’t you?” Whether he mentioned it or not, they would have seen him once they arrived.

“Furthermore, do you expect me to tell you I have a nearly four-year-old son? Would you believe it? Wouldn’t you think I’m crazy?”

Duan Chenxuan was left speechless; indeed, he wound’t believe such a thing.

“Your son is adorable. I really like him.” Duan Chenxuan joyfully looked at the little one in his arms. “Why do you already have a son, and I don’t?”

“I have a wife, and you don’t,” Su Yu bluntly continued the banter.

Wang Jinhe, observing their banter with a smile, thought that their relationship was indeed good.

“Su Yu, go talk to them first. I can handle things here myself,” Wang Jinhe urged.

“Okay, I’ll come over in a while.” Su Yu hesitated for a moment but decided to join Duan Chenxuan and the others.

Su Yu took Xiao Bao from Duan Chenxuan, ” Xiao Bao, do you want to stay with Mommy or go with me?”

“I want to go with my brother to see the little lamb. The little lamb has given birth to another little lamb,” Xiao Bao replied. He didn’t want to hear things he didn’t understand from them.

“Is it okay to play with Big Flower and the others?”

“Alright, you go, but don’t run around, okay?” Su Yu put Xiao Bao down and admonished him.

“I know,” Xiao Bao happily followed Zhang Zhilin to see the little lambs.

After a while, Xiao Bao found it boring and ran outside to play with Zhang Zhilin.

While playing with ants on the roadside, a convoy stopped.

The driver jumped down, looking at the two children. “Little ones, do you know how to get to Wang Jinhe’s house?”

Xiao Bao turned to look at the person asking, eyes full of curiosity. “Who are you? Why do you want to go to my house?”

The coachman was about to speak when a luxuriously dressed woman descended from the middle carriage.

“Little one, who is Wang Jinhe to you?” the woman asked as she approached Xiao Bao.

“I’m Mommy’s son,” Xiao Bao answered obediently.

The woman looked at Xiao Bao in surprise. It turned out that the child who had brought them melons before was this one.

“We’re here to attend your parents’ wedding.”

“In that case, come with me, I’ll take you home.” Xiao Bao took the initiative, reaching out to hold the woman’s hand and led her back home.

When Su Yu and the others saw the person Xiao Bao brought back, they were shocked. Su Xi was the first to kneel on the ground, “Greetings, Your Majesty.”

Wang Jinhe was somewhat bewildered. This turned out to be the Empress? Is the Empress so young?

“Rise, everyone. Today, we are not in the palace, no need for so many formalities,” the Empress Dowager said with a kindly smile as she stood with Xiao Bao.

Xiao Bao blinked and turned to look at the Empress Dowager, “Are you Grandma Empress Dowager? But you look as pretty as Auntie.”

The Empress Dowager was amused by Xiao Bao’s words, bending down to lift him. “Grandma used to look very old. It was the good things your mom sent that made Grandma look good.”

After months of enjoying the wine and canned goods sent by Wang Jinhe, her skin improved, and she became younger. Even the unbearable pain in her body during winter was alleviated.

Knowing that Wang Jinhe and Su Yu were getting married, she wanted to come and see for herself. She wanted to see how this girl managed to produce such good things.

“I like Grandma,” Xiao Bao said crisply.

Grandma Empress Dowager was just as good as his own grandma.

The Empress Dowager smiled, “Grandma likes you too. When you go to the capital with your parents, be sure to come play in the palace.”

“Okay.”

“Is the palace fun, Grandma?” Xiao Bao curiously asked.

The Empress Dowager considered it seriously, “It’s fun and not fun.”

Xiao Bao was a bit confused; he couldn’t understand what Grandma Empress Dowager meant.

“You’ll know if it’s fun or not after you go there.” The Empress Dowager couldn’t explain to Xiao Bao. For them, the imperial palace was like a golden cage, and there was no chance to leave.

For young people, the palace symbolized power and status.

As for children, it was probably just a magnificent place.

Xiao Bao nodded with some understanding after a while, then asked, “Does that mean I won’t be able to leave the palace like Uncle?”
