“Mommy, I like this little brother; he’s so cute.”
After saying that, Xiao Bao ran to the door and called out to Zhang Zhilin, “Brother, come and see the little brother. He’s especially cute.”
Zhang Zhilin put down his book and came out to look at the little brother with Xiao Bao.
When Zhang Zhilin saw Hong Yi, he also liked him a lot, saying, “This little brother from the Adopted Aunt is really cute.”
Xiao Bao also nodded eagerly, “Yes, the little brother is especially cute.”
Watching the two brothers praising the little brother without listening, Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but feel helpless, “What are you two talking about?”
Although she admitted that the child did indeed look very cute, fair and tender, but wasn’t it too much praise?
“Mommy, you don’t understand.” Xiao Bao looked at the bubbling Hong Yi, his eyes sparkling.
Wang Jinhe really didn’t understand the thoughts of the two children. She asked someone to take the child into the room to sleep, and Xiao Bao and Xiao Zhi just followed without sparing her or Su Yu a glance.
“Your son ran away.” Even the father who was so dearly cherished was abandoned; is this a plastic father-son relationship?
Su Yu was also somewhat surprised. He had been concerned that his son might reject the new child, but he hadn’t expected the boy to like Hong Yi so much. This made him feel much more relieved.
“I’m much more at ease now that they can get along well with Hong Yi. We won’t have to intervene in their emotional relationship often; it’s quite good,” Su Yu nodded in satisfaction.
Wang Jinhe gave Su Yu a displeased look. “Now you’re relieved.”
Initially, Wang Jinhe thought that after the novelty wore off, Xiao Bao and Xiao Zhi might develop negative emotions. However, she had overthought it. Instead of negative emotions, the two children were growing fonder of Hong Yi. After finishing their homework every night, they would go to see Hong Yi, regardless of whether he was awake or asleep. Even when Hong Yi was sleeping, they could squat by his side and watch for a long time.
Seeing this, Wang Jinhe ignored them. She had to organize people to plant watermelons and work on rice breeding while still managing the three children for a bit.
Su Yu, seeing that Wang Jinhe was still so busy even after he returned, felt a bit unhappy.
“Xiao He, after I come back, you’re always busy without accompanying me,” Su Yu complained discontentedly as he turned over and pressed down on Wang Jinhe at night.
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu in confusion, her eyes full of weariness, as if she hadn’t slept for a long time.
Seeing Wang Jinhe looking so tired, Su Yu felt reluctant to disturb her further. He reached out and pinched her face, saying discontentedly, “After you finish your work, you owe me some compensation.”
The response to Su Yu was the sound of Wang Jinhe’s deep and steady breathing as she slept.
Staring at Wang Jinhe, who fell asleep immediately, Su Yu felt the veins on his forehead throbbing. He felt that Wang Jinhe was doing it on purpose, deliberately falling asleep at this moment. Did this girl ever consider his feelings?
Lowering his head, he bit her on the face. Su Yu decided to note this down and settle the score after she finished her work.
The melon seedlings had been bred before, and now they had grown to the height of a palm. Wang Jinhe took Su Yu to the seedling field to have a look. Seeing that these melon seedlings were ready to be planted, she asked Su Yu to go find the village chief together.
Seeing Wang Jinhe coming over, Su Yu knew that something must have happened.
“Xiao He, why do you have time to come to Uncle’s place today?” This girl has been so busy lately, but she came over today.
“Uncle, go and inform the others that the melon seedlings can be planted. Have them bring tools to my house to transplant the seedlings. I’ll teach you how to plant them and the required spacing,” Wang Jinhe explained her purpose.
Upon hearing that the melon seedlings were ready, the village chief was so happy that he started dancing a little. “Really? I’ll go find people right away.”
Wang Jinhe watched the village chief hurriedly run out, feeling a bit amused and bemused. “Uncle usually looks so steady, but turns out he has this side too.” It was quite unexpected.
“Is it really surprising?” Su Yu didn’t find the village chief’s attitude strange.
The success of the vegetables has increased their confidence in Wang Jinhe. They have been looking forward to this since last year, and now they can finally start planting. How could they not be happy?
“I’m not surprised; I’m just curious.”
If it’s planted here, it also needs to be planted there.
Thinking about the many tasks ahead, Wang Jinhe keenly felt that she didn’t have enough manpower.
“Su Yu, I want to hire some people. Will you accompany me?” She had hired some workers, but she felt it was necessary to buy some additional labor.
“When do you want to go?”
“Let’s go today; we both have time now, and we’ll be busy again afterward.” Wang Jinhe thought about the many melon seedlings to be planted. Breeding seedlings for two hundred mu of land made her feel a bit overwhelmed. Buying people was a must; there was no other choice.
Su Yu corrected, “It’s you who’s busy, not me.”
Wang Jinhe gave him a sharp look. “What’s that? Do you have a big objection?”
Su Yu was drawn in by Wang Jinhe’s demeanor and leaned over to give her a kiss. “Why would I have objections? What you said is right. Let’s go to the town to buy labor.”
Wang Jinhe reached out and pinched Su Yu’s waist hard, reprimanding him for his lack of discretion.
“Xiao He, why are you pinching me? What did I do wrong?” Su Yu exaggeratedly exclaimed. Someone unfamiliar might think Wang Jinhe had pinched off a piece of his flesh.
Wang Jinhe gave Su Yu a disdainful look and left, ignoring him.
Su Yu quickly caught up, reaching out to hold Wang Jinhe’s hand as they left the village together.
As they left, some people kept watching them. Some looked at Wang Jinhe, wanting to say something but hesitating. It seemed they had words to speak but never voiced them.
Wang Jinhe was well aware of what they wanted to say. They wanted her to let them go and join in earning money together. It was just that they couldn’t bring themselves to ask for it, losing face to approach her.
“What are you looking at?” Su Yu asked, glancing at the onlookers with curiosity.
“Nothing, let’s go.”
On the way to town, Su Yu noticed that Wang Jinhe, with one hand propping up her chin, seemed to have something on her mind as she gazed out of the carriage.
Leaning in, Su Yu reached out and embraced Wang Jinhe, resting his chin on her shoulder. “What are you thinking about?”
“I’m thinking about the other people in the village,” Wang Jinhe said after a moment of silence.
Su Yu let go of Wang Jinhe, placing his hands on her shoulders and speaking solemnly, “Xiao He, do you want to help them?”
“I do want to help a bit, but I’m worried that some people may not be sincere.” Wang Jinhe sighed helplessly.
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe disapprovingly. “Have you forgotten how they treated you?”
“They were also manipulated by others. I’m thinking that we can directly sell the watermelon seedlings to each household, but they cannot exceed fifty plants each. After they grow, we’ll still buy from them, but the price will be one-fourth less than the market rate.” Wang Jinhe finished speaking and looked at Su Yu, asking with some difficulty, “Do you think this is a good idea?”
