“Xiao He has been busy planting melons these days and currently has little free time. Once she finishes this busy period, she will start cultivating, and she will notify everyone in advance. The village chief is currently uncertain about the timing and cannot provide a definite answer to their inquiries.
“Thank you, Village Chief. We’ll go find Xiao He to buy melon seedlings.” The villagers who decided to join in the planting happily went home to get money.
At the same time, they also brought some things.
Wang Jinhe looked at the things brought by the villagers and stared at the other party with a wooden face, making their faces turn red.
“What happened back then, Xiao He, I really apologize for it. After Xie Genshu came to apologize, we wanted to come, but…” It’s just that they were to embarrassed, so they had to grit their teeth and endure.
“Why do you need to apologize to me again?” Wang Jinhe looked at them and asked.
“If you can help us without bearing a grudge, and we still don’t apologize just for the sake of face, I would feel guilty. Thank you for not minding.” On the way here, he was actually conflicted about whether to apologize. However, when he saw Wang Jinhe, that internal struggle instantly disappeared.
Wang Jinhe smiled, unsure whether to be happy or complicated.
“Follow me,” Wang Jinhe didn’t know what to say, so she led them to the melon seedling field to pull out some seedlings.
She sold them fifty melon seedlings each, and after receiving the money, Wang Jinhe explained the precautions and spacing to them before letting them leave.
Looking at the silver in her hand, Wang Jinhe was momentarily uncertain about the emotions she should feel.
Su Yu stood beside Wang Jinhe, watching the silver in her hand. “What are you thinking?”
“Nothing, let’s go back.”
“Okay.”
Unnoticed by the two, after they left, several shady figures approached. Seeing the melon seedling field, their excitement was palpable.
The melons from Wang Jinhe’s home were so good that even if they didn’t sell them, they were confident someone would buy once they grew.
The thought of earning a lot of money in the future made them extremely excited.
“Hurry up and get to work, don’t let anyone get ahead of us.”
As they entered the melon seedling field, they began pulling out seedlings.
“Bark, bark, bark.” After pulling out a few seedlings, they heard a series of continuous barking.
Turning around, they saw a dozen dogs running towards them. Terrified, they tried to run, but they were soon surrounded by the dogs. One of the dogs even had a stolen melon seedling in its mouth.
People in the house heard the barking and came out. When they saw the dogs surrounding the people, they frowned.
“What’s wrong with Tangyuan?” Wang Jinhe walked to Tangyuan and squatted down, asking.
Tangyuan opened its mouth and spat out the melon seedling, then turned to look at the people who had stolen them, its body tense in an attack stance.
Wang Jinhe immediately understood what happened. These people tried to steal the melon seedlings without paying, and Tangyuan and the other dogs caught them in the act.
“Yuan Xu, go and invite the village chief over,” Wang Jinhe said, then vigorously rubbed Tangyuan’s head. “You guys are amazing. I’ll treat you to chicken legs tonight.”
Tangyuan licked Wang Jinhe’s hand, then walked to the side, continuing to stare at those individuals.
The number of dogs in the house had increased from four to thirteen. There were now two pregnant female dogs, and in some time, they would likely give birth to a few puppies. Wang Jinhe hadn’t given away any of the puppies; she kept them well-fed every day. When they grew up, she would take them to the melon and strawberry fields, as if telling them to patrol every day, rain or shine.
Thanks to them, the strawberry fields at home had indeed suffered much less damage.
“Wang Jinhe, you… tell your beasts to back off.” One of them was a bit afraid of dogs. Now, with so many dogs surrounding them, looking fierce, he couldn’t help but feel scared.
“When the village chief comes, I’ll naturally let you go. Why are you in such a hurry?” Wang Jinhe crossed her arms and asked with a smirk.
“You…”
If the village chief found out they had come to steal melon seedlings from Wang Jinhe’s home, they wouldn’t be able to stay in the village any longer, and that wasn’t what they wanted.
“Jinhe, look, you haven’t really suffered any loss. There’s no need to be so petty with us, right?” one of them chuckled.
“Are these melon seedlings not my loss?” Wang Jinhe looked at them coldly and asked in a deep voice.
They had the audacity to steal melon seedlings and then claim she hadn’t suffered any loss? How shameless could they be?
“This… it’s not like you can’t plant more. How can this be considered a loss?” Someone argued defiantly. “Your family is so rich, and you still take money for our melon seedlings. You can’t blame us for doing this.”
Wang Jinhe looked at them incredulously. “So, it’s my fault? Really?”
“Isn’t it? Your family is so wealthy; you should give us these things for free.” Someone continued, getting more enthusiastic. They completely ignored the fact that Xie Kui had been silently brought over by Yuan Xu using light skills.
“If you don’t appreciate the melon seedlings and choose to sell them, don’t blame us for stealing from your home. You better let us go quickly, or else…”
“Or else what?” Xie Kui asked with a sinister tone.
A sentence startled the people nearby, “Vil… Village Chief, you… how did you come here?”
Xie Kui arrived surprisingly quickly and heard what they were saying. What should they do now?
“Why did I come? If I didn’t come, I wouldn’t know to what extent the people in our village have lost their shame.” They stole someone else’s melon seedlings and had the audacity to say it was the other person’s fault?
Xie Kui’s words made the group unable to lift their heads, but some were still unwilling, “We didn’t say anything wrong. Her family is so rich…”
“So what if her family is rich? That’s earned through her own hard work. How did you treat her before? Now, she’s willing to help you make money, and you still want more? Others know to spend money to buy, to secure early access to more affordable seedlings from Xiao He. But you, daring to come and steal?” Xie Kui was well aware that if Wang Jinhe decided to report to the authorities today, these people would be in big trouble.
Xiao He didn’t report to the authorities primarily out of respect for him.
“Today, what happened with Xiao He is very serious and must be clarified in a village meeting. You all must attend, and additionally, you need to let everyone in the village know how capable your dogs are,” Xie Kui considered and decided to gather the entire village to discuss this matter seriously.
If everyone acted like this, wouldn’t it be chaotic?
“Okay.”
Wang Jinhe, accompanied by her dogs, went to the village, while Xie Kui went to gather all the villagers. When they saw the individuals who tried to steal the melon seedlings, the villagers were puzzled about what these people were up to and why the village chief had caught them.
“Today, something happened in our village that made me very angry. Xiao He has offered to sell melon seedlings to everyone and even taught everyone how to grow melons. However, some individuals, unfortunately, tried to gain without putting in any effort and went to Xiao He’s melon seedling field to steal seedlings.”
