Madam Gu’s heart skipped a beat; Su Yu’s words made her feel a chill, as if they knew everything.
Her gaze shifted to Su Yu, and his expression didn’t seem like that of someone who knew everything.
“How does this madam can know about this?” Madam Gu subconsciously looked away, avoiding eye contact with Su Yu.
“So Madam wasn’t aware, huh? That complicates things.” Su Yu looked at Madam Gu with a regretful expression.
Wang Jinhe peeked out from behind Su Yu, curiously looking at Madam Gu, “Madam Gu, why do you seem guilty?”
“Nonsense! Who’s guilty here?” Madam Gu glared at Wang Jinhe, her eyes filled with anger and dissatisfaction.
Innocently, Wang Jinhe looked at Madam Gu, “If there’s nothing, then there’s nothing. Why are you so angry? You’re starting to look a bit like ‘three hundred taels without a trace.'”
“You…” Madam Gu was about to erupt when she noticed Su Yu giving her a cold stare.
That kind of gaze made Madam Gu hesitant to say more.
Su Yu’s reputation as “Madman” was well-known; he was a bit of a madman who could do anything if provoked.
“Madam Gu, Xiao He is the cherished and protected treasure of my family. Someone like you has no right to insult her casually. I hope you understand this,” Su Yu warned coldly, crossing his arms.
The head of the Gu family, who had been silent, couldn’t find words after hearing this. He frowned and looked at Su Yu, “Young Master Su, you’re taking this too seriously.”
“Gu Family Head, tell me, what do you want with taking away my wife?” Su Yu asked without any courtesy, showing no face to them.
Wang Jinhe nodded continuously, “Yeah, I don’t know you. What’s your purpose in taking away me away?”
Their persistent questioning put the head of the Gu family on the defensive, and he casually replied, “Mistaken identity. We’ll leave.”
“Tangyuan, stop them,” Wang Jinhe ordered coldly as he watched the Gu family head trying to leave. “Oh, mistaken identity? Just now, your wife clearly asked for my name. You know who I am.”
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe, knowing she wasn’t lying. He then turned to the head of the Gu family, and the pressure emanating from him made the family head feel uneasy. “Gu Family Head, if you don’t give me a satisfactory explanation today, don’t blame me for being impolite.”
Despite feeling some fear towards Su Yu, the Gu family head’s mood soured at hearing such words. “Are you threatening me?”
“If that’s how you want to see it, then it’s not impossible,” Su Yu replied without hesitation.
A casually stated sentence left the head of the Gu family unable to refute.
“She can save my daughter,” Madam Gu spoke up as the head of the Gu family pondered how to explain the situation.
“My wife is not a doctor. If your daughter is sick, go see a doctor, don’t come looking for my wife.”
“Only she can save her,” Madam Gu insisted, looking at Wang Jinhe. “As long as you let her save my daughter, I can agree to any request.”
“How do you want Jinhe to save someone?” Su Yu asked with a meaningful tone.
This question left Madam Gu speechless. Did he want her to say that Wang Jinhe should exchange a life for a life with her own blood?
Madam Gu, though proud, wasn’t foolish. She knew that if she dared to utter such words, they wouldn’t be leaving here today.
“Why is Madam Gu silent?” Su Yu’s deep gaze fixed on Madam Gu.
Madam Gu kept her head down without speaking. Su Yu chuckled when he noticed, “It seems that saving your daughter will cost my wife a considerable price.”
“We can provide anything you need,” Madam Gu said, avoiding the specific issue and looking at Su Yu.
“Do you think we covet anything you have?” Su Yu retorted. What did the Gu family possess that he didn’t? Was there anything worth taking from them?
Madam Gu was at a loss for words. What Su Yu had might not be less than what they had, and there were things Su Yu possessed that they might not have.
That was the strength of Su Yu.
“It seems you’re well aware that I don’t covet anything of yours,” Su Yu scrutinized Madam Gu. “Leave this place. This time, for the sake of your Gu family’s dignity and Gu Jiuning’s face, I won’t take action against you.”
He was giving face to his mother-in-law this time, but next time, he might not be so lenient.
“Su Yu, they won’t come looking for trouble with me again, will they?” Wang Jinhe asked, holding Su Yu’s hand with curiosity on her face.
“They won’t,” Su Yu assured, though if they did come, they shouldn’t blame him for not being polite.
Su Xi looked at Madam Gu’s angry and unwilling expression and spoke, “Madam Gu, let me remind you, my grandson is good at everything, especially when it comes to protecting his own. His temper is not great, and whatever he wants to do, he will do it, even if it means breaking all ties with your Gu family.”
Moreover, given Xiao Yu’s current identity, there was no need for a showdown with them.
The head of the Gu family, with a grim expression, understood that Su Xi’s words were directed at him. He glanced at Madam Gu and said, “Let’s go.”
Madam Gu wanted to say something more, but the unsightly expression on the head of the Gu family made her hesitate to continue. She could only follow him as they left together.
Watching their departing figures, Wang Jinhe stepped out from behind Su Yu. At this moment, she showed no signs of being pitiful.
“Su Yu, do you think they will give up?” After learning about Su Yu and his grandparents, would these people give up or try something else?
“Who knows? If they don’t know what’s good for them and still want to harm you, I won’t be lenient with them,” Su Yu said coldly.
“Alright.”
On the carriage, Madam Gu bit her finger, her gaze slightly cold. “How did Wang Jinhe get so lucky? She’s actually Su Yu’s wife. Now it won’t be so easy to get her heart’s blood.”
“We need to consider this matter carefully,” the head of the Gu family said in a deep voice.
It’s just one Su Yu. If they are careful, they should be able to succeed. After she’s dead, can Su Yu really retaliate against the Gu family?
“After we return, investigate this person, Wang Jinhe.” The name felt somewhat familiar, as if heard somewhere before.
Back in town, the two found an inn to stay in and had their men investigate Wang Jinhe.
The next morning, they received all the information about Wang Jinhe.
When the head of the Gu family saw a particular detail, his expression changed drastically. Madam Gu noticed and walked over, asking, “What’s wrong? What did they say?”
“This situation just got complicated,” the head of the Gu family said with a serious expression.
“Why?”
“Wang Jinhe is the person who invented the threshing machine last year and cultivated high-yield watermelons, restoring our country’s dignity in front of everyone.” He had wondered why the name sounded so familiar, and now it made sense.
Madam Gu bit her lip, feeling worried. What should they do with someone who had a name even in front of the emperor?
With Su Yu and his group they might not be afraid, but when it came to the emperor…
The head of the Gu family sighed, “Now, it’s troublesome.”
Su Yu’s brother is a favored figure in front of the emperor.
