In the past life, it was a society governed by the rule of law, where one couldn’t easily take someone’s life. However, here is different; this place is filled with brutality. Because of power, status, and money, anything is possible, just like the current situation with Gu Xiruo.
Even though it’s clear that she has no interest in the Gu family, Gu Xiruo still finds ways to deal with her.
This feeling makes Wang Jinhe very uncomfortable.
As Wang Jinhe’s confidant, Su Yu knows that Wang Jinhe’s mood has not been good lately.
It seems there’s a perplexing issue bothering her, but Wang Jinhe hasn’t mentioned it, and he hasn’t asked. He thought she would figure it out on her own in a few days.
“What have you been thinking about lately, Xiao He?” Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe and asked softly.
He couldn’t let Wang Jinhe continue to dwell on her thoughts.
Wang Jinhe sighed softly, “It’s nothing. I’ve just been thinking about my own matters.”
“Your own matters?” Su Yu asked with a hint of confusion.
Wang Jinhe nodded gently. Her previous personality was mild and gentle, not inclined to harm others. Her friends often praised her for being kind, but her kindness was sometimes perceived as weakness, making her vulnerable to bullying.
She used to think that there was nothing wrong with her gentle personality. After coming here, she believed that leading a good life with her family would be sufficient. However, she now realized that such a personality couldn’t go far in this world, especially considering her background and Su Yu’s identity. Her current disposition might not be able to cope with these challenges.
“Su Yu, do you think my personality is unlikeable and makes me an easy target for others to bully?” Wang Jinhe turned to Su Yu and asked earnestly.
Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe in surprise, seemingly not expecting her to ask such a question.
“What’s the matter? Are you surprised?”
“Your personality does make you susceptible to being bullied, but it’s safe to say that many people appreciate you just the way you are.” Su Yu assured her.
It didn’t seem like he found Wang Jinhe’s personality unlikeable.
Being with Wang Jinhe was quite comfortable for Su Yu. Whenever they spent time together, he felt relaxed. Even when Wang Jinhe was in a bad mood, chatting with her could quickly calm him down and help him adjust his mindset.
Wang Jinhe’s personality… What could it be likened to? Su Yu pondered seriously.
Ah, yes! Wang Jinhe’s personality was like a clear spring—calm and tranquil, yet holding a depth within.
“Only you would say that,” Wang Jinhe chuckled and shook her head.
“Su Yu, when we return to the capital, I want you to stay out of the matters between me and Gu Xiruo.” Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu with seriousness.
“What do you intend to do?” Su Yu frowned, looking at Wang Jinhe with evident concern.
It seemed like this girl was planning something, and he had no idea what it was.
Wang Jinhe didn’t answer Su Yu’s question but looked at him firmly, saying, “Can you promise me this request?”
Su Yu sighed lightly, “Since this is what you want, I will definitely agree.”
Wang Jinhe smiled, “Thank you.”
“Don’t be polite with me. I don’t know what you want to do.But whatever it is, I will fully support you until you accomplish everything you want.”
Wang Jinhe opened her mouth, but the words didn’t come out. However, looking at Su Yu, a slight smile appeared on her face.
As long as Su Yu was by her side, Wang Jinhe felt that she could persist through any difficulties.
“All right.”
“If you want to take matters into your own hands, I won’t stop you. However, there’s one thing you must promise me.” Su Yu placed a hand on Wang Jinhe’s shoulder, making her look at him.
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu in surprise, not understanding what he meant.
“What do you want me to promise?”
“A very simple thing. Just promise me that no matter what you do in the future, prioritize your own safety. Don’t let yourself get hurt,” Su Yu said seriously.
He could let Wang Jinhe do what she wanted, but there was one thing Wang Jinhe had to understand: no matter what she wanted to do, she must ensure her own safety.
Wang Jinhe thought Su Yu had something important to say, but she didn’t expect it to be this.
“Okay, I promise you.” This matter was simple for Wang Jinhe as well.
The only thing she wanted was to resolve the grievances between her and Gu Xiruo. She had never thought about doing anything else, and Su Yu’s concerns were unnecessary. Nevertheless, Wang Jinhe was grateful for his care.
“This is your own promise. If you don’t fulfill it, what do you think should be done?” Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe with a serious expression.
Wang Jinhe stared at Su Yu discontentedly and said, “Don’t you trust me?”
“I do trust you. It’s just a precaution,” Su Yu explained with a touch of grandiosity.
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu with disdain. “You’re just talking nonsense. What’s the difference between this and not trusting me?”
She wanted to see if Su Yu could explain this matter in a way that made sense.
“Jinhe, you are too softhearted. In a sense, you are not a match for Gu Xiruo,” Su Yu said reluctantly, knowing that Wang Jinhe insisted on knowing, so he had to speak up.
Why did she have to make him say it?
Wang Jinhe didn’t refute Su Yu’s evaluation because it was the truth.
Seeing Wang Jinhe’s silent response, Su Yu reached out and pinched her face, comforting her by saying, “Jinhe, don’t worry too much. I’m here, right?”
Wang Jinhe remained silent. She didn’t want Su Yu to interfere in the matter between her and Gu Xiruo. As for the issue Su Yu mentioned, she would strive to change and overcome it. She wouldn’t let it become her weakness.
Su Yu felt that he had sighed more today than usual. While Wang Jinhe having her own thoughts was a good thing, he was concerned that Gu Xiruo might use shameless methods that could hurt Wang Jinhe emotionally.
“JXiao He, have you really thought it through?” Su Yu asked Wang Jinhe one last time.
“Yes, I’ve thought it through. Su Yu, you just need to provide information to me,” Wang Jinhe replied. She didn’t need him to intervene in anything else.
Looking at Wang Jinhe’s serious expression, Su Yu could only comply. He should dote his wife, after all.
“If you really want to take action, there’s something you can practice on right now,” Su Yu said softly.
“Oh? Tell me about it,” Wang Jinhe became interested, eager to know what he was talking about.
“It’s about Gu Sheng and his wife. I just received news that they plan to use Xiao Bao to force you to compromise,” Su Yu explained. He believed that with this information, Wang Jinhe would understand what he meant.
Sure enough, Wang Jinhe’s eyes sharpened upon hearing Su Yu’s words. “Is the Gu family trying to exchange my life for Xiao Bao’s?”
“Yes, exactly as you guessed,” Su Yu confirmed. When he received this news, he was also furious. These people were really seeking death.
