The magistrate, seeing Wang Jinhe’s demeanor, understood that Gu Sheng had crossed a line.
After the officers arrived, the magistrate pointed at Gu Sheng, saying, “Intending to harm the princess and showing disrespect warrants fifty strokes.”
Gu Sheng had no time to react and was pressed to the ground. A sturdy wooden stick was taken, and the beating began.
Gu Sheng’s face turned pale with pain. How could he be so foolish to overlook the fact that Su Yu was not here, and Wang Jinhe still held the title of princess?
“Wang Jinhe, you dare to lay hands on your own uncle. Beware of divine retribution!” Gu Sheng angrily cursed, not sounding like an elder or a family head.
Wang Jinhe sneered, looking at the pale-faced person being beaten. “Oh, divine retribution? A person willing to sacrifice his own niece’s life doesn’t deserve divine retribution. I’m just fighting back; how could divine retribution strike me?”
After the fifty strokes, Gu Sheng was barely alive, appearing as if he could die at any moment.
Wang Jinhe crouched down, looking at the nearly lifeless Gu Sheng on the ground, mocking him, “Gu Sheng, dare to try anything against me again? I haven’t returned to the capital yet, so I won’t bother your precious daughter for now. But once I return, I will settle both old and new scores with her.”
Previously, she only thought about avoiding traps set by Gu Xiruo. However, instead of restraining herself, Gu Xiruo escalated matters and even sought her life.
When she returned to the capital with Su Yu, she would make Gu Xiruo pay a painful price for her actions. As for the couple Gu Sheng and his wife, she had thought it through. She would ensure they regretted their current actions.
“Jinhe, the child is innocent. Whatever grudge you have, don’t take it out on us,” the head of the Gu family said angrily.
Upon hearing this, Wang Jinhe laughed heartily. After the laughter, she looked at Gu Sheng with a gaze that held both sympathy and complexity. “Really? Gu Sheng, I hope you can still say such things in the future.”
Furrowing his brows slightly, Gu Sheng didn’t understand the meaning behind Wang Jinhe’s words.
Wang Jinhe looked at Gu Sheng for a long time. “Some things, even if given to you, you would still consider them as if you were blind. Since your heart is already blind, continue being blind for the rest of your life.”
After saying this, Wang Jinhe turned and left without sparing a glance for Gu Sheng. As for Yu Baiya on the side, as long as he didn’t cause trouble, Wang Jinhe had no intention of bothering with him.
Gu Sheng watched helplessly as Wang Jinhe walked away, wanting to say something but fainting from the pain.
The magistrate looked at the unconscious Gu Sheng and shook his head in silence. Knowing that she was the princess, Gu Sheng dared to lay hands on her. Wasn’t that seeking his own death? But this had nothing to do with him.
The magistrate thought about the matter of high-yield crops and quickly followed up. He had been too busy with other matters and hadn’t come to check on spring farming. He didn’t know how much he had missed.
“How are the high-yield crops, Princess? How is the harvest this year?” The magistrate followed up and asked Wang Jinhe with some anticipation.
Wang Jinhe, not in high spirits, perked up a bit upon hearing the magistrate’s question. “There weren’t any significant issues this year. When the harvest comes, I’ll have someone notify you and the Governor. You can come over and take a look. We’ll start promoting it next year.”
The magistrate nodded happily. “Thank you so much, Princess. We will definitely come when the time comes.”
Wang Jinhe, feeling a bit uneasy with the repeated address as “Princess,” said, “No need to call me Princess. Just call me by my name, like before.”
Although Wang Jinhe suggested using her name directly, the magistrate didn’t dare. After thinking for a moment, he changed his address, “Madam.”
Wang Jinhe looked at the magistrate in silence, feeling a bit awkward with this new title. However, she understood why the magistrate chose to address her this way. In this hierarchical society, it would be disrespectful for a magistrate to call a princess by her name. The magistrate discussed some other matters with Wang Jinhe before leaving, taking some vegetables she had given as a gift. After seeing off the magistrate, Wang Jinhe realized she had nothing else to do.
Leaning back in her chair, her eyes filled with confusion, Wang Jinhe didn’t know what she should do next.
Everything was back on track, and all the necessary tasks had been arranged. It seemed like there was nothing else for Wang Jinhe to do.
She regretted not going out with Su Yu earlier. If she had accompanied Su Yu, she could have had some fun.
With nothing to occupy her time, Wang Jinhe began considering what other business ventures she could explore.
Staring blankly, she suddenly thought of something and stood up from her chair. She didn’t know if she could find cotton seeds here, but if she could, she might be able to grow some cotton. Then, she could use it to make more comfortable blankets than the ones they currently used.
Thinking about it made her want to act. Wang Jinhe went to find her grandma and others, asking, “Do you know where I can find cotton seeds?”
“Cotton? What is that?” Grandma and Gu Jiuning looked at Wang Jinhe with curiosity.
Wang Jinhe was dumbfounded by their question. Seriously? This place didn’t even have cotton?
“It’s a type of crop. You can use it to make blankets and such. They are very warm,” Wang Jinhe explained matter-of-factly to the two puzzled individuals.
After listening, the two suddenly realized, “We understand what you’re talking about. However, very few people in our area cultivate this. The key issue is that even if someone initially planted it, no one has been planting this cotton later on.”
Upon hearing this, Wang Jinhe felt somewhat pleased. These ancient people were simply wasting valuable resources. After growing this cotton, making quilts out of it could be sold for a high price.

“I’ll go buy some seeds later,” Wang Jinhe immediately exclaimed.
“Do you know how to cultivate this cotton?” If she didn’t know how to cultivate it, Wang Jinhe wouldn’t be so confident, right?
After all, she wouldn’t joke about such matters.
“I know. The reason why cotton cannot be cultivated here is probably due to incorrect cultivation methods. I know what to do. After buying the seeds, we can give it a try.”
“Jinhe, is it too late to plant cotton now?” The old lady looked at Wang Jinhe and asked.
However, Wang Jinhe smiled and shook her head, “It’s not too late. We can plant it now.”
“Well, it’s worth a try, provided that the seed store here still sells cotton seeds,” the old lady said.
If there were no seeds available here, everything would be in vain.
“I’ll go to the town tomorrow and see. Our family happens to have a few acres of fallow land. If I can get the seeds, we can use them to plant cotton,” Wang Jinhe said thoughtfully.
“Bring someone with you.” Now, the Gu family and Yu family are watching closely. They really don’t feel at ease with her going out alone.
Wang Jinhe understood that her family was worried about her and nodded gently to indicate her understanding.
