The usually composed child is now even more anxious than the others.
“Mother, I certainly trust my brother. I just want to know how well my older brother did,” Wang Jinhe coughed lightly and said.
Su Xi chimed in, “Jingyu is very knowledgeable. The student exam was too simple for him. He will surely achieve excellent results. Let’s wait a little longer; there should be news soon.”
“Okay.” At the moment, it seems there’s nothing else to do but wait.
Sure enough, after less than half an hour, they heard the sound of gongs outside.
“Congratulations to Wang Jingyu for taking the top spot in the student exam.” Wang Jinhe heard the sound outside and jumped up.
“Mother, I think I heard them say that my brother took the top spot in the student exam, or maybe he’s in first place.” Older brother is really amazing.
Gu Jiuning smiled, “Jingyu has always been impressive.”
If it weren’t for the obstacles from the Yu family, why would her son have to wait until eighteen to take the student exam?
Wang Jinhe, along with the Gu family, went out together.
The official saw them coming out and quickly congratulated, “Congratulations, Miss Wang.”
“Thank you. When will my older brother come back?” Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but ask. After her older brother returns, they must celebrate properly.
“He still has to participate in the examination for scholars. He will come back after the announcement.”
Wang Jinhe took out two pouches and handed them to the two officials, “Thank you both for running this errand.”
“No problem, no problem. We still need to go to other villages to share the good news, so we’ll take our leave.” The two officials declined for a moment but accepted the pouches. The bulging pouches made both of them very happy.
After sending off the officials, not long after, people with good relationships with their family arrived, “Qingfeng, I heard that Jingyu passed the student exam? And he got first place?”
“Yes.”
Xie Kang exclaimed, “This is great news! Aren’t you planning to treat us? By the way, where is Jingyu? Why hasn’t he come back yet?”
“Jingyu still has to participate in the examination for scholars. After he returns, we will definitely invite you all to visit,” Yu Qingfeng said, knowing their good intentions and speaking immediately.
“Great! When the time comes, you must inform us. Don’t make us come over to remind you ourselves.” Xie Kui said cheerfully.
First place in the student exam, that’s truly impressive.
“Absolutely.”
After bidding farewell to the enthusiastic Xie Kui and others, the family exchanged glances and couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
Three days later, the familiar sound of gongs resounded in the village again.
Xie Kui and others rushed out upon hearing the sound.
“Congratulations to Wang Jingyu for ranking first in the examination for scholars.”
The official continued to deliver good news as he walked, and when Xie Kui and the others heard that Wang Jingyu not only passed the examination for scholars but also ranked first, they were overjoyed.
“Jingyu is amazing, taking first place even in the examination for scholars!” Xie Kui exclaimed happily.
“Who would deny that? Jingyu is indeed remarkable. Let’s go to Qingfeng’s house and see if there’s anything we can help with.” Xie Kui led his wife and others to Wang Jinhe’s house.
Seeing everyone had gathered, Wang Jinhe realized that hosting them was a must. Not treating them wouldn’t be acceptable.
“Congratulations, Qingfeng. In the future, your family will be exempt from taxes on a hundred acres of land,” the county magistrate said cheerfully.
Upon learning that Wang Jingyu ranked first in their county, he personally came to deliver the good news.
Helping the county magistrate personally was indeed an honor, but Wang Jinhe looked at him somewhat helplessly. Could she still give him a red envelope?
“County Magistrate, please come inside.” After struggling with it for a while, Wang Jinhe decided to set aside this matter. She could always send him some vegetables and fruits when they left.
While Yu Qingfeng and the others entertained the county magistrate, Wang Jinhe went to prepare the meal.
Xiao Bao and the other child huddled together, chatting, “Uncle is really amazing, achieving two first places. But Daddy is still more impressive; he became a top scholar at such a young age, a three-time consecutive champion. I must surpass Daddy in the future.”
“Xiao Bao is amazing. You will definitely surpass godfather,” Zhang Zhilin heard his grandfather mention Su Yu.
Su Yu was truly remarkable. He felt that he might not surpass his godfather, but with Xiao Bao’s talent, given what his grandfather said about him being extraordinary, it would undoubtedly be possible.
Xiao Bao nodded earnestly, “I’ll work hard.”
Everyone at home couldn’t help but laugh at the conversation between the two children, especially Su Xi. “Xiao Bao, Grandpa supports you surpassing your dad. If you can achieve first place in the student exam before your daddy did, Grandpa will give you a treasure.”
Xiao Bao became interested and ran to Su Xi, asking, “What’s the treasure, Grandpa?”
“I can’t tell you now. I’ll tell you when you surpass your daddy. This is something I haven’t even given to your daddy,” Su Xi had a precious item in his collection that Su Yu had wanted before but didn’t receive.
Now, he was leaving it for his great-grandson.
“Thank you, Grandpa. Do you have it now?” Xiao Bao looked at Su Xi eagerly.
“Yes.”
Xiao Bao was delighted and pulled Zhang Zhilin to go play with the animals .
Wang Jingyu came back in the afternoon, and he was a bit surprised to see so many people at home.
Xie Kui stood up, reached out, and patted Wang Jingyu’s shoulder, “Well done, young man.”
This little guy was too impressive. If it weren’t for the incident back then, he might have already held an official position. Fate had its way of working.
“Thank you, Uncle,” Wang Jingyu expressed his gratitude calmly.
His composed demeanor pleased Yu Qingfeng. If one couldn’t remain humble and composed, they wouldn’t go far.
“Now that Jingyu is back, when are you planning to host a celebration? Jingyu did so well; you must host a celebration. If you don’t organize it for Jingyu, we’ll chip in and do it ourselves,” Xie Kui said straightforwardly.
This was a joyous occasion for their village, and he was willing to contribute personally.
Yu Qingfeng looked at Xie Kui helplessly, “I didn’t say I wouldn’t organize it.”
Since when did the village chief have to pay for a celebration when his son passed the examination for scholars?
“Give us a date, and we’ll come to help.”
“Day after tomorrow.”
“Alright.”
After everyone had left, Yu Qingfeng finally breathed a sigh of relief.
He rubbed his temples and helplessly said, “The village head is too enthusiastic; it’s a bit overwhelming.”
Wang Jingyu and Wang Jinhe exchanged a glance and couldn’t help but burst into laughter.
While others had brought gifts for Wang Jingyu, Wang Jinhe, unsure of what to give, simply handed him twelve thousand silver coins, allowing him to buy whatever he liked.
The straightforward and practical gift made Wang Jingyu laugh heartily, “By the way, did Su Yu give you any news? When is he coming back?”
Wang Jinhe shrugged, “He did, but judging by his indication, it’ll be several more months before he returns. The situation there may be quite tricky.”
Wang Jingyu nodded in understanding.
Although they were planning to host a celebration for Wang Jingyu later, Wang Jinhe had prepared a sumptuous feast today, with a total of fifteen different dishes.
Yang Zhenwei looked at the diverse array of dishes, some of which they had never tasted before, and raised an eyebrow, saying, “We’re benefiting from Jingyu today, getting to enjoy so many delicious dishes.”
“Grandpa, eat as much as you like,” Wang Jinhe said with a smile.
