Wang Jinhe finally felt relieved, saying, “That’s good.”
After telling Wang Jingyu, Wang Jinhe went to find someone to investigate Wu Xinlin.
Upon returning home, Wu Xinlin looked at the people in the house with disgust, “Why did you let him come here?”
Looking at her son, Wu Shi helplessly said, “Xinlin, don’t be like this. This is your father.”
Father?
Wu Xinlin pondered over this word and sarcastically laughed, “I don’t have a father; that person is not my father.”
“You…”
The man beside them reached out, pulled Wu Shi back, and shook his head, saying, “It’s okay. The child may not be able to accept it for a while. Don’t force him.”
Listening to the man, Wu Xinlin became even more irritated and impatiently said, “Don’t act all noble here. Seeing you makes me sick.”
Wu Xinlin’s words made Mrs. Wu somewhat unhappy, “What are you saying? All these years, your ability to go to school was because of him. Xinlin, don’t be stubborn.”
Wu Xinlin looked at the man, then back at Wu Shi, and sarcastically laughed, “Is having money your reason for betraying my dad?”
“You are his son,” Wu Shi frowned, looking at Wu Xinlin, wondering why this child was so unreasonable.
Wasn’t her statement clear enough?
Wu Xinlin remained silent, staring at Wu Shi. Since when did this woman become like this?
After a prolonged silence, Wu Xinlin turned and left. He couldn’t accept that he was this man’s son, no matter what Wu Shi said.
“Stop right there, you…”
“Enough, don’t force the child. It’s only natural for him to react this way,” the man said. Over the years, he had only fulfilled his duty as a father by providing for Wu Xinlin’s education. He couldn’t accept, forgive, and it was only fair.
Wu Shi said bitterly, “It’s all my fault.”
“It’s not your fault. It was because I couldn’t make you happy at that time that I let you marry someone else hastily,” the man said, looking at Wu Shi with guilt.
Bringing up the past made Wu Shi fall into silence. She didn’t know what to say.
Seeing her silence, the man realized he had spoken wrongly and quickly changed the subject, softly comforting Wu Shi.
The news about the Wu family quickly reached Wang Jinhe’s ears. Wang Jinhe, deep in thought, remarked, “So, Wu Xinlin isn’t the Wu’s biological son?”
“Yes, Wu Xinlin’s father passed away quite some time ago. This man coming out of nowhere has ulterior motives,” Qi Feng said, furrowing his brows.
“Oh? What is his purpose?” Wang Jinhe suddenly became interested, curious about why this man, who hadn’t approached Wu Shi for over a decade, suddenly appeared.
“The man’s surname is Qian. He owns several shops in the county town and has some wealth. However, he and his legal wife have never had children. Their only son passed away due to illness, and now he wants to take Wu Xinlin back. As for Wu Shi, she has no intention of accepting her.” Qi Feng shared the information he had gathered with Wang Jinhe.
After hearing this, Wang Jinhe lightly tapped his fingertips on the table. Qian, who shares a child with Wu Shi, is coming to claim their illegitimate child. Does madam Qian have no objections?
Any woman would find it difficult to accept that her husband has an illegitimate child with another woman, especially one almost twenty years old, older than her deceased son.
“Madam Qian has no objections?”
“Madam Qian is unaware of this matter.”
Wang Jinhe looked at Qi Feng in surprise. If Madam Qian doesn’t know about this, and this man is coming to take someone away, is he planning to act first and explain later?
Rubbing his chin, Wang Jinhe suddenly asked, “How did the Qian family become wealthy?”
“Relying on Madam Qian’s dowry.”
Upon hearing that the Qian family became wealthy through Madam Qian’s dowry, Wang Jinhe’s disdain became even more apparent.
This Mr. Qian has no shame, using his wife’s money and still wanting to bring back his illegitimate child.
“Really? Then find a way to inform Madam Qian about this, let her know what kind of person her husband is,” Wang Jinhe said with a playful expression.
He wondered if Madam Qian, upon learning the truth, would be furious enough to strangle Mr. Qian.
“At the moment, Madam Qian may not have the energy to deal with this. Since losing the child, her health has been deteriorating, and the wealth in her hands has all fallen into the hands of Mr. Qian.” The current Madam Qian is practically sidelined, and even if she finds someone, she may be forced to accept the situation.
“Ill? Have Yuan Ji go take a look at her.” Wang Jinhe didn’t want people to die.
A person needs to be alive to contend with Mr. Qian. This way, Wu Xinlin won’t have the status to cause trouble for her.
“Are you planning to let Madam Qian and Mr. Qian struggle, ultimately leaving no time for Wu Xinlin to come over?” Qi Feng quickly grasped the situation with a little thought.
“I’ve always been concerned about Wu Xinlin. Keeping him busy may not be a bad thing, especially now that this Surnamed Qian wants him to go back; he’ll surely use some means,” Wang Jinhe said thoughtfully.
If it were her, wanting to bring back a child who’s reluctant to return, she would definitely investigate the child—find out what the child desires most and use that information to make the child willingly return.
This way, the goal would be achieved, and whether the child genuinely wanted to go back wouldn’t matter.
Qi Feng, listening to Wang Jinhe’s words, agreed with her perspective.
“If that’s the case, Madam Qian is indeed needed to give Qian a hard time.”
“Yes, he must have a hard time.” Only by having a hard time could Mr. Qian be prevented from doing anything unethical.
Qi Feng went to inform Yuan Ji about Wang Jinhe’s intentions. Upon learning that Wu Xinlin was apparently trying to compete with their young master for the lady of the house, Yuan Ji sneered, “Rest assured, madam. I’ll go see that lady afterward.”
“Good, take care of yourself.”
“There’s no danger, no need to worry,” Yuan Ji waved his hand.
When Yuan Ji left for the county town, Mr. Qian began investigating Wu Xinlin. Upon learning that Wu Xinlin currently needed Wang Jingyu’s help in the imperial examinations and also wanted Wang Jingyu’s sister as his wife, Mr. Qian couldn’t help but laugh. It’s good to have things one desires.
One day, seizing the opportunity while Wu Shi was not at home, Qian Mingsen intercepted Wu Xinlin.
“I am Qian Mingsen, your father,” Qian Mingsen said directly, looking at Wu Xinlin.
Wu Xinlin frowned. Were his words not clear enough? How could this person come and say such things to his face?
“My father is not you.” He had only one father, and this man was neither natural nor deserving.
Looking at Wu Xinlin’s resistant expression, Qian Mingsen smiled slightly, “I know you want to get Wang Jinhe.”
Wu Xinlin’s face changed slightly, “You investigated me?”
Qian Mingsen smiled at Wu Xinlin, “I want you to come home, naturally, I need to know what you want. If you come with me, you’ll be the only young master of the Qian family. What you want is not a difficult thing, right? Why bother being shut out by someone else?”
Wu Xinlin didn’t speak, but Qian Mingsen’s words were quite attractive to him.
