“Did I just latch onto a golden thigh?” Wang Jinhe teasingly asked.
“I’m giving it to you. Thank you for earlier,” Su Yu said. He knew it was because of what Wang Jinhe had said to Xiao Bao that the boy didn’t reject him.
Wang Jinhe paused for a moment, then smiled and shook her head. “No need to thank me; it’s a simple matter.”
“If it weren’t for you, Xiao Bao wouldn’t have liked me,” Su Yu said confidently.
“This is good for Xiao Bao. I know he’s always wanted a father. When Xiao Zhi’s father came to see him before, Xiao Bao felt a bit down. His initial rejection of you was just because he’s had some grievances over the past two years. You don’t need to worry about it,” Wang Jinhe explained.
When Xiao Bao said he didn’t want a father, Su Yu knew it was just his anger speaking. Deep down, he was excited.
“I’ll be good to him in the future, and to you, of course,” Su Yu said seriously, looking at Wang Jinhe.
Wang Jinhe smiled and shook her head. “Just be good to Xiao Bao.”
“That won’t do; you’re my wife,” Su Yu said domineeringly.
Wang Jinhe watched Su Yu with a twitch at the corner of her mouth, wondering if he had gotten too immersed in the role. Otherwise, how could he say such things?
“What’s this, Mom?” Xiao Bao asked curiously, holding a cylindrical object.
Wang Jinhe took a look and said in surprise, “This? It’s a telescope. You can see very far with it.”
“Really? How do you play with it, Mom?” Xiao Bao asked, curious because he had never played with something like this before.
Wang Jinhe demonstrated to Little Bao, saying, “Xiao Zhi, let’s go and play with it.”
“Okay.”
The two little ones held hands and went to the yard to play, occasionally making sounds of amazement, which amused Wang Jinhe.
“You’re good at choosing things,” Wang Jinhe said as she looked at Su Yu.
“Many of these things I’ve collected over the years while traveling around. I didn’t know what children like, so I thought something novel would do. As for those little toys, they were all prepared by my subordinates, waiting for me to bring the young master and the young lady back,” Su Yu shrugged and said.
“Is that so?”
Su Yu nodded, “Yes, when they came, they even brought medicine for my injuries, just in case I got into a fight.”
Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but laugh, “If this were someone else’s family, you might actually be in danger of getting beaten up.”
Her parents and grandparents were civilized people, and they wouldn’t resort to physical violence.
Su Yu nodded repeatedly, “You’re absolutely right.”
“But your subordinates are quite something, actually preparing medicine for you,” Wang Jinhe found it quite amusing.
Just how afraid of him getting into a fight were his subordinates?
“I don’t need them, but it’s fine. I’ll keep them for you. Xiao Bao is at the age where he’s naturally mischievous and prone to bumps and bruises. These ointments have excellent healing properties, they’re quite valuable,” Su Yu explained. “Usually, even if you wanted them, you might not be able to get them.”
Wang Jinhe chuckled, “Alright, I won’t hesitate to accept them then.”
After playing for a while, Xiao Bao and Xiao Zhi returned to continue exploring the toys in the boxes, some of which even Zhang Zhilin had never seen before.
Xiao Bao reached into the bottom of one box and took out an object, shaking it in his hand. “What is this thing?”
“This is the Nine Linked Rings. You just need to untangle all the rings on top,” Su Yu explained to Xiao Bao.
Xiao Bao tilted his head, then slammed it on the ground with force.
The Nine Linked Rings shattered.
“Why did you have to smash it, dear? You could have just left it as it was. Why did you have to break it?” Grandma Wang said anxiously.
Xiao Bao proudly pointed at the shattered pieces on the ground and said, “I untangled it.”
Everyone stared at the shattered Nine Linked Rings on the ground, their eyes filled with amazement.
Was Xiao Bao taking a shortcut? No, by smashing it directly like this, it was indeed the simplest method.
Su Yu looked at the broken Nine Linked Rings on the ground with narrowed eyes. He remembered the high monk who had given him the Nine Linked Rings and had said that in the future, the person who could untangle the Nine Linked Rings using the simplest method would be a gifted genius with a bright future. Could it be that this gifted genius, this promising individual, was his son whom he had just found?
“Why are you staring at the Nine Linked Rings like that? Can you turn them into a flower by looking at them?” Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but tease Su Yu when she noticed him continuously gazing at the shattered pieces on the ground.
Su Yu shook her head and said, “No, it’s just that this Nine Linked Rings was given to me by a highly respected monk. He told me that in the future, if someone could untangle the Nine Linked Rings using the simplest method, then that person is a gifted genius.”
Wang Jinhe’s immediate reaction upon hearing this was to wonder if Su Yu had been deceived. “Are you sure you haven’t been scammed?”
Su Yu shook his head and replied, “That master is wealthy and influential to the point where not everyone can even meet him. He is genuinely talented, and many things he says come true. That’s why many people seek him out for fortune-telling. However, not many can get him to personally help.”
“Oh? So, how did you obtain his Nine Linked Rings?” Wang Jinhe asked curiously.
Su Yu furrowed his brows and said, “I’ve been visiting him annually for the past few years, and he gave it to me this year. Besides this, he said one sentence to me, but I didn’t quite catch it.”
“Really? If there’s a chance, I’d like to meet this person to see if he’s truly as miraculous as you say,” Wang Jinhe said in curiosity.
“If there’s an opportunity, I’ll take you there. Forget about everything else, that peach blossom forest over there is worth a visit,” Su Yu responded.
“By the way, Where are you from?” Wang Jinhe asked out of curiosity.
“From the capital city.”
The capital city? Wasn’t that where Gu Jing and Zhang Qin went?
“Do you know Gu Jing and Zhang Qin?” Wang Jinhe asked curiously.
Upon hearing these names, Su Yu nodded and said, “I do know about them. When I arrived, there was a lot of tension between the Zhang family and the Gu family.”
“Why? Haven’t they resolved the matter yet?” Wang Jinhe furrowed his brows, concerned that something might go wrong.
“Gu Jing severely injured Zhang Qin’s cousin, and Zhang Qin retaliated by attacking some members of the Zhang family. Now, the old lady of the Zhang family is very displeased with both of them, even pressuring Zhang Qin to divorce his wife. It will likely take some time, but it should be resolved soon. Why do you ask? Do you know them?” Su Yu inquired.
Wang Jinhe nodded and replied, “Yes, we know them. Xiao Zhi is their son.”
Su Yu nodded in understanding and said, “I see. In that case, it serves the Zhang family right if Zhang Qin and his wife join forces to deal with them.”
“At the time, the incident was well-known in the capital city. The Gu family made quite a scene. If it weren’t for the intervention of the Zhang family, this matter wouldn’t have been easily resolved,” Su Yu explained.
Wang Jinhe furrowed his brows and remarked, “It seems that Sister Jing’s identity is quite extraordinary.”
Otherwise, Su Yu wouldn’t have said something like that.
