Wang Jinhe’s words left the troublemakers completely dumbfounded. “Why?”
“Because I am the a titled county Princess in Xuan Empire, and I am also an Imperial Princess of Xuan Empire. You come here to slander a princess and a county Princess without cause. Do I need to give you a reason to punish you?” Wang Jinhe looked at them coldly, her words leaving them speechless.
Yuan Lin, standing behind Wang Jinhe, watched her curiously. It had been one or two years since he had been with the madam, and they all knew her character. Sometimes, she was a bit too easygoing, but now it seemed like she had changed a bit. However, this was a good thing for them.
Yuan Lin turned back to fetch a chair for Wang Jinhe. “Madam, please have a seat. Yuan Bao should be back in a while.”
“What about your master?” Wang Jinhe asked as she sat down.
This morning, Su Yu had gone somewhere, and Yuan Lin knew that he had gone to the county town to pick up something for Wang Jinhe. It was about time for him to return.
The return of the young master would surely lead to anger if he saw the madam being treated this way by these people.
Wang Jinhe remained silent, resting her chin on her hand and closing her eyes to rest.
The lead monk observed Wang Jinhe’s confident demeanor, his brow furrowing slightly. She seemed completely unconcerned.
Meanwhile, Xie Kui and his group heard that troublemakers had come to bother Wang Jinhe, so they called several villagers who had received Wang Jinhe’s kindness to come and support her.
As they arrived, they saw some unfamiliar individuals blocking Wang Jinhe’s door. Xie Kui frowned. “Who are you people?”
” Xie Kui , It seems like this group are from the neighboring county.”
“Indeed, these people are just a bunch of ruffians in the neighboring county, never doing anything good.”
Wang Jinhe heard the voices as Xie Kui and his group arrived.
Upon hearing the conversation, Wang Jinhe opened her eyes and looked over. “Is what you’re saying true?”
“It is. My wife’s family is from that county. We know what kind of people they are, always up to no good.”
Wang Jinhe chuckled softly. “I see.”
“Yuan Lin, have Yuan Ji fetch their County Magistrate. I have something to discuss with him,” Wang Jinhe said. If she remembered correctly, the magistrate had previously approached her, hoping she could help secure some grain seeds for their county this year.
“Yes.”
Yuan Ji went to fetch the magistrate, and the troublemakers, hearing their deeds being exposed, felt embarrassed and silenced.
“Your village has a demon, and yet you still defend her. Aren’t you worried that she might harm you one day?”
“Who dares to hit me?”
“I do.” A young child stood up proudly.
“Don’t speak ill of the county princess. She and her husband bought the fruits that nobody else wanted, allowing us to earn money. She also provided us with high-yield grain seeds and left us some for the future, ensuring that we, the poor people, can have enough to eat. The county princess is not a demon; she is a celestial being sent by the heavens to save the people of Xuan Empire.”
The child’s words resonated with many, affirming that Wang Jinhe was indeed a celestial being sent to help them live better lives. She was not a demon.
“To ensure our crops grow well, the county princess works in the fields every day, overseeing breeding and planting. If she were a demon, why would she do these things?”
“Which temple are you from, monk? We won’t visit there anymore.”
The lead monk seemed surprised by Wang Jinhe’s high prestige.
As Wang Jinhe listened to the supportive words around her, her anger gradually subsided. Not everyone may have seen what she had done, but those who did understand were enough.
However, those who needed to be dealt with still had to be dealt with.
“Master, please act quickly,” the lead monk was aware that they couldn’t just give up at this point.
He began chanting complex Sanskrit verses, but Wang Jinhe listened with little interest.
As time passed, the monk’s face became increasingly sweaty, and his expression grew more serious. How could she remain unaffected? Who was this person?
As he became more uncertain, Wang Jinhe began to grow impatient.
“Have you finished your chanting?” Wang Jinhe asked coldly, interrupting the monk’s recitation.
The monk looked at Wang Jinhe, who was clutching her chest, feeling a bit frustrated. How could she be unharmed?
“You’ve gone too far, Jingkong,” a gentle voice spoke up.
Wang Jinhe looked over and was surprised to see the kind old monk. Even more surprising was that Su Yu was standing beside the old monk.
Wang Jinhe silently asked him what was going on, and Su Yu smiled reassuringly at her.
Wang Jinhe lowered her head, lost in thought.
Jingkong’s expression changed when he saw the old monk. “Master, why are you here?”
“If I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have known about all the wrongdoings you’ve committed. This benefactor has bestowed great blessings and is not the so-called demon as you claim,” the old monk said, frowning.
“But her transformation is indeed significant.”
“Does a significant transformation automatically make someone a demon? Jingkong, when did you become so shallow in your judgment?”
“I… I…”
“Apologize,” the old monk interrupted Jingkong and instructed him to apologize to Wang Jinhe.
Reluctant to apologize, Jingkong still believed that Wang Jinhe was at fault.
“No need to apologize. As I said earlier, if I’m unharmed, each of the troublemakers today will receive fifty lashes. Yuan Lin, have them start. If anyone dares to slack off, I’ll make them wash everyone’s dirty socks,” Wang Jinhe said, causing Yuan Lin to twitch at the corner of his mouth. He looked at Su Yu, wondering what the young master and the young madam were thinking, now that they had suddenly changed their approach.
“Start,” Yuan Lin ordered, seeing that both of them were ready to act, and quickly went to find people, as there were quite a few present.
The most vocal troublemakers tried to leave when they realized the situation was turning against them.
Wang Jinhe could see through their intentions. “You can leave, but unless you can evade the search by my husband’s men, the punishment will be doubled for each of you,” she declared. Today, she wanted certain individuals to know that she could be reasonable, but she could also be ruthless.
However, at this point, they were unable to escape. Su Yu’s men surrounded them.
Su Yu walked over to Wang Jinhe and put his arm around her shoulder. “Shall I handle this?”
Wang Jinhe shook her head. “No need, I’ll handle it myself.”
