Chapter 446: Suspicion

It was because of believing such words from others that she had treated Su Yu in this way. Now, the abbot’s words made Wang Jinhe unable to help but feel some doubt.

“How did you and Su Yu meet, Master?” Wang Jinhe asked with a curious expression, wondering what had led him to bring the abbot here.

The abbot looked at Wang Jinhe’s curious expression and said, “It was an unexpected encounter.”

“Is that so?” Wang Jinhe didn’t believe a word the abbot was saying.

“I wonder what brings the abbot to my home?” Wang Jinhe’s smile turned cold as she watched Su Yu and his father and son practicing martial arts on the side.

The current Su Yu was indeed quite different from the first time she had seen him.

“What are you suspicious of, madam?” the abbot asked, looking at Wang Jinhe and suddenly speaking up.

“Does the abbot know the Prince of the Qi Empire?” Wang Jinhe, seeing the abbot’s reaction, didn’t beat around the bush and directly asked the abbot.

The smile on the abbot’s face froze, and he looked at Wang Jinhe, who was frowning subconsciously. “I am a person of Xuan Empire. How could I know the prince of the Qi Empire? Madam, you jest.”

Wang Jinhe glanced at the abbot and didn’t say much more. “So, what is the purpose of the abbot’s visit to my home?” she asked, looking at the abbot, steering the conversation back to the original topic.

The abbot frowned, about to say something, when Su Yu walked over curiously and asked, “What are you guys talking about?”

“Nothing much. I was just curious about why the abbot came to our home. Did you invite him?” Wang Jinhe turned to Su Yu with a smile as he approached.

“I was on my way to bring something for you today, and I met the abbot on the way. He said he wanted to come and see me, so I let him come along. What’s the matter?” Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe with a puzzled expression.

“Oh, so you met him on the way,” Wang Jinhe said. “Su Yu, how did you come to know the abbot?” she continued.

“I met him when I was young, along with Qiming,” Su Yu said, seeming to realize that something was amiss.

Looking at the abbot, Wang Jinhe furrowed her brow slightly.

He had suddenly come out of the temple today and coincidentally met Su Yu. What was his purpose?

“The abbot just said he doesn’t know the Prince of the Qi Empire. Su Yu, don’t you find that interesting?” Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu with a mischievous glint in her eyes.

“Madam, what do you mean? I truly don’t know the Prince of the Qi Empire,” the abbot responded.

“Indeed, you may not know the Prince of the Qi Empire, but you do know Qiming, and that’s just the same,” Wang Jinhe said. The abbot’s expression changed slightly upon hearing her words, but Su Yu, who had observed everything, remained composed. He had thought it was an encounter with an old acquaintance, but it turned out to be at Qiming’s behest, leaving him extremely disappointed.

“What was his purpose in bringing you here?” Su Yu asked the abbot.

Initially, he had thought that the enmity between the him and Qiming had nothing to do with him, which was why he had brought the abbot along. He never expected that the abbot had been summoned by Qiming. The thought of it was extremely distasteful to him.

“I came on my own,” the abbot responded.

“You can say that, but do you really believe that you came on your own? Abbot, you used to be someone who didn’t meddle in others’ affairs,” Su Yu said.

“Some people live long lives because they don’t meddle in others’ affairs,” Su Yu’s blatant threat left the abbot with no room for misunderstanding.

The abbot sighed and said, “Su Yu, you are his friend. Why must it come to this?”

“He just asked me to help mediate, and he’s willing to apologize to you,” the abbot said, looking at Su Yu and speaking up.

“Since he’s willing to apologize, you shouldn’t be angry anymore,” the abbot began, but before Su Yu could respond, Wang Jinhe smashed the teacup on the table to the ground, her eyes filled with gloom.

The sudden action startled Su Yu and the others, especially the abbot.

“Madam, you…” the abbot began.

“Just because you address yourself as a master, and you think highly of yourself?” Wang Jinhe said coldly, looking directly at the abbot. She despised people like the abbot, who meddled without understanding the situation, and she questioned his qualifications to speak on behalf of others.

Su Yu reached out and patted Wang Jinhe’s hand, trying to calm her. “Xiao He, don’t be angry.”

“How can I not be angry? Who does he think he is? Daring to say such things? Does he know what you’ve been through? He knows nothing and yet he comes to talk about forgiveness. How audacious can he be?” Wang Jinhe’s voice was filled with anger.

Although Wang Jinhe’s words were not directed at the abbot, he felt extremely awkward. He felt that Wang Jinhe was scolding him.

“Madam, there’s a solution to every problem. What’s the use of being angry? It’s better for him to have a clear conversation with Qiming,” the abbot seemed unaware of the reason behind Wang Jinhe’s anger.

Wang Jinhe looked at the abbot coldly. “Have a clear conversation? Is Qiming worthy of that?”

“Get out,” this was the first time Wang Jinhe had ever ordered someone to leave her home, and she did so in a very direct manner.

The abbot’s expression soured, and he looked at Wang Jinhe. “You are just a woman, and it’s not your place as a woman of the inner chambers to meddle in men’s affairs.”

Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but chuckle at this, and she looked at Su Yu with a blank expression. “Su Yu, he says I have no right to meddle. What do you think?”

Su Yu reached out and touched the slightly flushed corner of Wang Jinhe’s eye, speaking softly. “You have every right to meddle in my affairs, and those who say otherwise are just ignorant.”

He wasn’t very familiar with this person, but he had come to know him because Qiming used to frequent the place. Now, this person had insulted his wife and said such things, which made Su Yu very displeased.

“Qiming is a good person. Su Yu, don’t do anything you’ll regret for someone else,” the abbot said to Su Yu with a meaningful look.

Wang Jinhe looked at the abbot coldly. “What has Qiming given you to make you speak on his behalf? A monk meddling in worldly affairs—does your Buddha know about this?”

“If your Buddha knew, would he be so angry that he’d come back to life?” Wang Jinhe looked at the abbot, who was speaking up for Qiming, and said with a cold smile.

“Madam Su, please refrain from making unfounded remarks.”

“A monk’s senses are pure, and he should not meddle in worldly affairs. It seems that this abbot is still attached to the secular world. If you are so fond of Qiming, why not return to secular life and go back to the Qi Empire with him? How about that? Isn’t my suggestion wonderful?” Wang Jinhe crossed her arms and looked at the abbot with a sardonic smile.

The abbot frowned, still not understanding why Wang Jinhe suddenly turned hostile. What had he done to provoke her?

Seeing the abbot’s puzzled expression, Wang Jinhe naturally knew what he was thinking.
