Su Yu pulled down the hand on his face and looked up at Wang Jinhe with a serene smile.
“What’s wrong?” he asked.
“Nothing. Has Qiming left?” Wang Jinhe asked, sitting across from Su Yu.
Su Yu nodded with a smile. “Yes, he’s gone back to where he belongs.”
“Is he really willing to leave?” Wang Jinhe asked in surprise. She found it unexpected that Qiming, who was so persistent and unwilling to give up, would be willing to leave like this.
Su Yu remained silent and just smiled.
Even if Qiming didn’t want to leave, what could he do? He would have to leave. The next time they met, one of them would die, and it wouldn’t be him. So, the one who would die would be Qiming.
“Wang Jinhe, what about me?” Su Yu asked, seeing the smile on Wang Jinhe’s face.
Seeing Su Yu like this, Wang Jinhe suddenly felt that all her worries were unnecessary.
She shook her head with a light laugh. “It’s nothing. Everything is fine.”
She could tell that this time, Su Yu had completely let go. Since that was the case, there was no need for her to say anything more.
Su Yu was taken aback, seemingly surprised by Wang Jinhe’s words.
“Xiao He, I’m fine. Seeing Qiming this time is actually a good thing for me,” Su Yu said, indicating that he had let go and now only revenge remained.
“That’s good. As long as you’re okay, that’s all that matters,” Wang Jinhe replied.
“Why did you come back so early today?” Normally, Wang Jinhe wouldn’t return home from the fields before mealtime. Today, she had only been gone for less than an hour before returning.
Wang Jinhe didn’t say anything but looked at Su Yu.
Su Yu was taken aback and then chuckled softly. “I’m sorry for making you worry.”
“You didn’t do anything wrong. What does it have to do with you? Are you silly?” Wang Jinhe said, a bit exasperated.
Clearly, he was the real victim, so why was he apologizing to himself? It was beyond her comprehension.
“How are the rice plants in the fields?” Su Yu immediately changed the subject, feeling a bit foolish for continuing the conversation.
“They’re growing well. We’ll continue after the ears have formed. For now, let them grow slowly,” Wang Jinhe replied.
The two fell into a moment of silence, but Su Yu suddenly remembered something else.
“Xiao He, there’s something I want to tell you. I think you’ll be very happy to hear it,” Su Yu said, looking at Wang Jinhe.
“What is it?”
“The Qing family and the Gu family have had a falling out,” Su Yu said.
Wang Jinhe immediately perked up and looked at Su Yu with great curiosity. “What? Aren’t they in-laws? How could they have a falling out? Did Gu Xiruo do something?”
Su Yu chuckled softly. He had to admit that Xiao He’s intuition in this matter was quite remarkable.
“It does involve Gu Xiruo. She publicly defended Lu Lingfeng in front of everyone, and the Gu family doesn’t see anything wrong with their cooperative relationship,” Su Yu explained briefly.
Wang Jinhe listened with keen interest, her eyes filled with curiosity and excitement.
“Gu Xiruo is quite something. During the marriage negotiations between the two families, she openly defended another man. But I suppose this also has to do with Lu Lingfeng, right?” She didn’t believe that it was simply a misunderstanding on the Qing family’s part regarding their relationship.
“When the Qing family visited Gu Xiruo’s courtyard, they happened to witness some intimate gestures between Lu Lingfeng and Gu Xiruo. The way he looked at her was too doting, and it was easy to figure out what was going on,” Su Yu explained. It was clear to anyone with common sense, especially the Qing family.
The Qing family had already had a disagreement with Gu Xiruo before, and it was because of Lu Lingfeng. When Qing Yukong saw the two of them being so intimate, he naturally couldn’t bear it.
“Was Lu Lingfeng doing it on purpose?” She remembered Su Yu mentioning that Lu Lingfeng had intentions of his own.
If he had such intentions, he certainly wouldn’t allow Gu Xiruo to marry Qing Yukong.
“Yes, Lu Lingfeng is well aware that he holds a more important place in Gu Xiruo’s heart than Qing Yukong. No matter what he does, Gu Xiruo won’t say a word. Besides, Gu Xiruo still has her uses for Qing Yukong. Even if she knows, she’ll pretend not to, and besides, Gu Xiruo isn’t that clever,” Su Yu explained. Lu Lingfeng had managed to provoke Qing Yukong twice, showing that he was not an easy man to deal with. He was also very cunning, knowing how to sow discord between the two and make Gu Xiruo resent Qing Yukong.
And Lu Lingfeng had succeeded, and he had done so very well.
“Qing Yukong doesn’t realize that he’s being manipulated, does he?” Wang Jinhe asked, playing with the cups on the table.
When a person is angry, they can’t think too much.
“Well, it will probably take him some time to realize, but by then, it won’t matter,” Su Yu said meaningfully.
“Poor thing,” Wang Jinhe remarked.
“Are you sympathizing with Qing Yukong?”
“Not really, but it’s not fun to watch when one side is at a disadvantage in a dispute. Let’s have Wanfeng and the others help stir things up a bit,” Wang Jinhe said, staring directly at Su Yu with a mischievous smile.
Su Yu chuckled and ruffled Wang Jinhe’s hair. “Alright, whatever you say.”
If Gu Xiruo wanted to sit back and reap the rewards of something that didn’t rightfully belong to her, they would have to see if she agreed.
Wang Jinhe rarely made requests of him, and since this was just a matter of speaking, he naturally wouldn’t refuse.
“Then I’ll leave it to you,” Wang Jinhe said, patting Su Yu’s shoulder with a smile in her eyes.
Su Yu’s endearing expression brought a fond smile to his face.
“I’ll follow your lead.”
“Do you think I’m being too harsh?” Wang Jinhe asked, hesitantly looking at Su Yu.
Su Yu paused. “Why do you ask?”
“I haven’t been provoked by Gu Xiruo, so is it wrong for me to scheme against her?” Wang Jinhe said softly.
“Xiao He, the relationship between you and her is fixed. Even if you ignore her now, she will come back to scheme against you once she’s done with her other business,” Su Yu said, furrowing his brow.
Gu Xiruo’s aim was Wang Jinhe’s life, and what she was doing now was just a counterattack.
Wang Jinhe looked at Su Yu in astonishment. Was that really the case?
“Xiao He, you’ve always been kind to others, but some people require a firm hand. It’s fair to scheme against someone who wants to take your life. Not everyone can be repaid with kindness,” Su Yu said earnestly.
Gu Xiruo was Wang Jinhe’s enemy, and from the beginning, Gu Xiruo’s intentions were clear: she wanted to take Xiao He’s life, prevent her from returning to the capital, keep her identity hidden from the Gu family, and ultimately bring her back to the Gu family. If Xiao He hesitated at this point, she would definitely end up at a disadvantage. Su Yu didn’t want that for Wang Jinhe.
“Xiao He, you can be kind, but you can’t afford to be blindly kind when someone is out to get you. It will only lead to your being wronged. Do you understand what I mean?”
