With Lin Zixun’s help, Village chief Lin quickly registered the land for planting.
The next day, several village chiefs went to Xie Family Village together, accompanied by Lin Zixun. The others didn’t say anything about it.
Upon arriving at Xie Family Village, Lin Zixun was shocked. The houses in Xie Family Village were all well-built, made of blue bricks and tiles, with beautiful flowers planted at the entrance. There were hardly any children playing outside; they were probably all at school. This was the kind of village that Lin Zixun aspired to. He was certain that his village would become like this in the future.
Accompanied by Village chief Lin, they went to Xie Kui’s house. When they arrived, Xie Kui had just returned from the fields, and there were other people from different villages at his house.
“You all really came together as planned,” Xie Kui said with a smile, shaking his head.
“We were in a hurry, so we came over,” one of the village chiefs replied.
Xie Kui noticed the child next to Village chief Lin and asked curiously, “Who is this?”
“This is a child from our village who wanted to visit your village,” Village chief Lin explained briefly to Xie Kui, who frowned upon hearing it.
“Are there still people like this? That’s outrageous,” Xie Kui said.
“That’s all in the past. Now Zixun just wants to earn money,” Village chief Lin said, waving his hand.
“This time, Zixun has helped me a lot. If it weren’t for the family’s situation, he wouldn’t have ended up like this. He learns quickly and has even been to school, but it’s a pity…” If it weren’t for the family’s financial troubles at the time, Zixun wouldn’t have ended up in this situation.
Xie Kui pondered for a moment and then looked at Lin Zixun. “If you really have the ability, I can introduce you to Xiao He and Su Yu. They are in need of talented individuals.”
“What can I do?” Lin Zixun asked.
“I’m not sure about that. Xiao He and Su Yu have a lot on their plate, and they need capable people for the tasks ahead,” Xie Kui said. He wasn’t sure how to explain it to him, but he felt that the child might be a good fit with Xiao He and Su Yu.
Lin Zixun frowned but didn’t speak. In fact, he wanted to follow Wang Jinhe and her husband. He had a feeling that he could go further with them, but he didn’t want to appear too opportunistic. It was a dilemma.
“Zixun, if you have the ability and want to go, I’ll swallow my pride and ask Village Chief Xie to help you make the connection,” Village chief Lin said, sensing that Lin Zixun wanted to go.
“Village chief, I…” Lin Zixun began.
“I understand your thoughts and your frustration. You’re young and capable, and you should go out and make a name for yourself. Your family is still there, and there’s no problem with planting a few acres of cotton,” he said. He didn’t want to hinder the child’s future.
Listening to their conversation, Xie Kui had an idea. “Wait for me. I’ll go to Xiao He’s house.”
“Thank you for this, Chief Xie.”
“Don’t mention it. I’ll just inform Su Yu, and as for what happens next, it will depend on this young man’s abilities,” Xie Kui said, shaking his head.
He was just going to inform Su Yu, and whether things worked out would depend on the young man’s abilities.
“Thank you, Uncle,” Lin Zixun expressed his gratitude.
Xie Kui smiled, shook his head, and then went to Suyu’s house.
When Su Yu was at home, discussing matters with Yuan Bao, Xie Kui arrived.
“Are you busy, Su Yu?” Xie Kui asked.
“Uncle, is there something you need?” Su Yu asked, looking at Xie Kui.
“I have a young man from Lin Family Village. The village chief told me that this child is talented, quick to learn, and has even been to school. However, due to family circumstances, he couldn’t continue his studies. He also suffered humiliation and a broken engagement. Now, besides planting cotton, he is looking for something else to do. You were still looking for people, right? So, I came to ask,” Xie Kui explained Lin Zixun’s situation to Su Yu.
After listening, Su Yu looked pensive. “Uncle, you can go back and attend to other matters. Show this young man the way and let him come to me on his own.”
She wanted to see if this young man truly wanted to become stronger or if it was just talk.
“Alright,” Xie Kui said, leaving happily.
“How did it go, Chief Xie?” Village chief Lin asked anxiously upon Xie Kui’s return.
“I’ve already spoken to Su Yu. He said to let the child come to him on his own. Their family lives at the foot of the mountain at the village entrance, and they have the biggest and best-built house,” Xie Kui replied.
Lin Zixun nodded heavily. “Thank you, Uncle.”
After leaving Xie Family Village, Lin Zixun headed towards Su Yu’s house. When he reached the door, he hesitated for a moment. However, this hesitation only lasted a short while, and he walked over and knocked on the door with determination.
Inside the house, Su Yu smiled upon hearing the knock. “Go and open the door.”
Yuan Xu went to open the door for Lin Zixun. Although he seemed a bit awkward, he managed well enough.
“I heard from Uncle Xie that you’re looking for something to do. What do you want to do?” Su Yu asked Lin Zixun with great interest.
“As long as it’s not something that goes against my principles, I’m open to anything,” Lin Zixun replied without much thought.
“Even if it’s just running errands?” Su Yu inquired.
“I don’t mind,” Lin Zixun shook his head.
“Why?”
“I need an opportunity to become stronger. Even if I start by running errands now, it doesn’t mean I’ll always be just a runner in the future,” Lin Zixun said confidently.
Su Yu found himself quite fond of the child’s stubbornness, which reminded him of his past self.
“Is that so? Then tell me, what is your purpose in wanting to become stronger?” Su Yu asked.
“To make my family’s life better,” Lin Zixun’s eyes were clear and sincere as he spoke.
“Not to seek revenge on your former fiancée’s family?” Su Yu probed.
Lin Zixun shook his head. “Deliberately seeking revenge on someone would be a waste of my time. The better my family’s life becomes, and the further I go, the more it will be a form of revenge against them.”
His original intention to become stronger was never about seeking revenge on that family. From the beginning, his only goal was to improve his family’s life.
After arriving at Xie Family Village, his determination to achieve this became even stronger. He wanted his grandparents and the elderly in Xie Family Village to be able to chat and relax in the village. He wanted his brother to go to school and his sister to have a better life. He wanted his parents to be able to walk past that family with their heads held high, without a care in the world.
Lin Zixun’s earnestness and determination touched Su Yu. As he contemplated, Lin Zixun spoke up first, “I want to follow you.”
“Alright, you have three days to explain to your family. After three days, come here to report. I will tell you what you need to do next and about your wages,” Su Yu said.
“Okay,” Lin Zixun agreed, feeling a sense of joy.
“Yuan Xu.”
