Pan Minjun looked at Liu as if she were a monster. Was this person really so self-important? Twenty taels of silver a month—why didn’t she just rob someone?
“Liu, what kind of person do you think your brother is? And twenty taels of silver a month? Why don’t you just ask the County Princess to give all their money to your brother? You’re making it seem like your brother is so precious,” Pan Minjun said sarcastically.
Pan Ming’s expression was now extremely unpleasant, and he felt deeply embarrassed. How could he have such a wife?
Looking at his grandmother standing beside him, Pan Ming wiped his face and said regretfully, “Grandmother, I know I was wrong. I should have listened to you in the first place and not brought this woman home.”
Even though his parents and grandmother got along well, this woman had managed to make their lives so difficult. It was all her doing.
The old lady sighed softly, patting Pan Ming’s shoulder and said helplessly, “It’s a good thing you don’t have children yet, so you can do whatever you want. I absolutely disagree with keeping this woman at home.”
Once or twice was enough. She had already endured enough of her during this time. If it happened again, she was afraid she would be driven to her death.
Pan Ming nodded and looked at Liu. “I’ve already written the divorce letter. I won’t even ask for the twenty-five taels of silver you secretly took from my family. Now, take your things and get out.”
Liu, who had been full of hope, was stunned to hear Pan Ming’s words. She turned to him and said, “Are you serious?”
She had always thought that Pan Ming was just bluffing.
Without saying a word, Pan Ming went to their room to pack Liu’s clothes. While packing, he discovered that the ten taels of silver he had saved were missing.
Carrying Liu’s clothes with anger, Pan Ming kicked her. “You despicable person! You stole ten taels of silver from me while I was away.”
That was all the money he had.
Liu was dumbfounded by Pan Ming’s sudden action.
“It’s just ten taels of silver. Shouldn’t a son-in-law be respectful to his in-laws?” Liu said dismissively, not realizing her mistake and feeling wronged instead.
“Liu, that was all the money I had left. Since you’re so eager to be with your family, take the divorce letter and get out. If you don’t return the ten taels of silver to me, I’ll report you to the county office,” Pan Ming said coldly, looking at Liu.
If her family were decent, he wouldn’t mind showing them respect. But they were a bunch of greedy and ungrateful people. Even if he showed them respect, they would still think it was their due.
“Do you dare?” Liu said.
“See if I dare. And your precious brother, if he provokes me, I’ll deal with him too,” Pan Ming said coldly, looking at Liu’s brother.
Liu trembled in fear. She looked at Pan Ming and said through gritted teeth, “I can promise to return the money, but you can’t divorce me, and you can’t cause trouble for my brother.”
She had been living so well in the Pan family. She wouldn’t go back to a life of poverty and hardship, having to do so much work.
Not to mention that Pan Ming was now working for the County Princess and had a promising future ahead. If she left like this, wouldn’t it be giving other women an advantage?
Pan Ming looked at Liu coldly. “Do you think you have any room to negotiate with me? Let me tell you, whether you agree or not today, it’s all the same. You know what kind of people your parents are.”
“If I really report you, your whole family won’t be able to escape. You know what dirty things your parents and your brother have done,” Pan Ming said sarcastically.
Liu’s face turned pale. She looked at Pan Ming, trying to read something from his expression, but she found him too composed, too resolute, and exuding a confidence that made her worried and afraid.
But how could he know about the things her parents and brother had done? They had been so secretive.
“Do you think I’ll believe your words?” Liu asked.
“One year ago, on the hill behind Xiaowang Village,” Pan Ming said coolly, looking at Liu.
Those simple words completely terrified Liu. She looked at Pan Ming in disbelief, realizing that he really knew everything.
“Liu, I told you that you didn’t have to agree. I can just send all of you to prison. Our County magistrate is a very just official,” Pan Ming warned.
Liu felt some resentment towards Pan Ming, thinking he was being too harsh on her.
“We are husband and wife, Pan Ming. Do you have to treat me like this?” Liu asked.
“It’s not the case anymore. Take the divorce letter and get out with this useless person,” Pan Ming threw Liu’s belongings out and then threw both of them out.
Liu was thrown around and realized at that moment that Pan Ming was serious and not joking with them.
With a vacant look, she pleaded as she clung to Pan Ming’s leg, “I know I was wrong. Please forgive me this time. I really won’t dare to do it again.”
Pan Ming kicked her away. “Get lost.”
He slammed the door shut, leaving Liu sitting on the ground in a daze.
Liu Bao crawled up from the ground and kicked Liu harshly. “You’re useless.”
The incident in Xiaowang Village was the most sensitive issue for Liu Bao. If this matter was exposed, it would be over for him.
Liu Bao was a schemer, but he was definitely not stupid.
Liu had been foolish today. Not only did she fail to achieve her goal, but she also ended up being divorced.
Looking at Liu, Liu Bao felt that she was too embarrassing.
“After you go back home, you can explain to our parents yourself,” a divorced woman no longer had any value.
He had followed Pan Ming here because he knew about Pan Ming’s connection with the County Lord. He had hoped to gain some benefits from Pan Ming, but he never expected to be kicked out before gaining anything. Moreover, Liu had offended Pan Ming. How did Pan Ming find out about the incident in Xiaowang Village?
He had to go back and inform his parents about this matter, or they would be caught off guard.
Liu took her belongings and followed along. Even though she knew that life would be difficult once she returned home, she had no choice. With Pan Ming divorcing her, she had nowhere else to go but back to her family.
Pan Ming looked at Pan Minjun and said with self-reproach, “I’m sorry, it’s my fault for letting the wolf into the house.”
“It’s not your fault, big brother. Is there something you need to tell us now that you’re back?” Pan Minjun didn’t want to dwell on the matter and immediately changed the subject.
“We’re going to the county to work. We came back before leaving,” Pan Ming said.
“Everything is fine at home,” Pan Minjun replied.
“Work hard and don’t make it difficult for your cousin,” Pan Ming’s family advised.
