To act so arrogantly in his presence, he could only imagine what they were like when he wasn’t around. This girl was truly unfortunate to have such a sister-in-law. Fortunately, she had already been divorced; otherwise, leaving such a person at home would have been a disaster.
Liu Bao didn’t dare say a word after the beating. He resented the Pan family, but he resented Liu even more. If it weren’t for her rotten ideas, would he be in this situation?
In the end, Liu and her brother not only received a flogging but were also imprisoned for three months.
Yuan Xu looked at Liu Bao’s resentful expression towards Liu and said softly, “Let them stay in the same cell. I’m sure they have a lot to say to each other.”
Liu, barely conscious from the beating, looked up at Yuan Xu upon hearing this, but the sudden movement aggravated her injuries, leaving her pale and in pain.
Seeing the resentment in Liu Bao’s eyes, Liu dared not stay with him. Once he recovered, it would be her death sentence. She was more severely injured than Liu Bao and was no match for him.
“You’re just seeking revenge,” Liu said hoarsely.
“It’s not revenge. I just want you to experience the pain caused by someone you’ve protected,” Yuan Xu said coldly.
Liu looked at Yuan Xu with resentment, then turned her gaze to Pan Minjun. “You’ve taken a liking to that despicable girl, haven’t you? A shameless woman who seduces other people’s husbands.”
Hearing Liu’s resentful voice, Pan Minjun looked at her pale-faced. “What have I done to offend you? Why are you treating me like this?”
When she was still at the Pan family, she had treated Liu well. Why did she end up in this situation?
She just wanted to ruin herself.
“Why? Tell me why? I told Pan Ming so many times to make you marry my brother, but he refused without a second thought. Because of this, I was beaten so badly when I returned to my family. Shouldn’t I hate you for this?” Liu said, full of resentment.
After marrying Pan Ming, her status in the Li family had improved significantly. The only time she had been beaten so badly was because Pan Minjun refused to marry Liu Bao. If it weren’t for that, she wouldn’t have been beaten.
Pan Minjun never expected this to be the reason.
“Do you have no idea what kind of person he is? Shouldn’t I refuse to marry him? Although my family isn’t well-off, I was still raised with love and care from my parents and brother. Why should I go to your family and be treated like a slave?” It was clear to everyone what fate awaited a girl who married into the Liu family.
Liu didn’t care about any of this. “You should have married my brother. That would have been fair.”
She had endured so much, and now it was Pan Minjun’s turn to experience it. She only resented Liu Bao for being so useless that he allowed Pan Minjun to be rescued.
“Liu Bao is just a useless waste. I gave him the chance, and yet he still allowed you to be rescued,” Liu said, growing more and more resentful as she thought about it.
If Liu Bao had succeeded, would they be in this situation?
The county magistrate furrowed his brow slightly, unable to believe that Liu was still so stubborn at this point.
“Stubborn,” the county magistrate thought to himself. He had hesitated when Yuan Xu suggested that Liu and Liu Bao be kept together, but now he saw Liu’s behavior.
Observing Liu Bao’s angry expression, the county magistrate said thoughtfully, “Keep them together.”
“Just because his master is the county Princess, you treat me like this. I’ll sue you,” Liu struggled to say.
“Suit yourself. Liu, you’ll be detained for six months,” the county magistrate said coldly.
This sentence left Liu completely dumbfounded. She looked at the county magistrate in disbelief. “Pan Minjun is fine now. Why are you treating me like this? I won’t accept it.”
Despite Liu’s struggles and refusal to accept it, she was still detained, with no chance to do further harm.
After six months, when she was released, the Pan family would likely have some means of self-protection.
Liu Bao and Liu were taken away together.
Pan Changsheng looked at Yuan Xu with deep gratitude. “Thank you for saving my daughter.”
“You’re welcome. Since everything has been taken care of, I’ll be on my way,” Yuan Xu said.
After speaking, Yuan Xu looked at Pan Minjun and asked, “Are you interested in working or doing something?”
Pan Minjun looked at Yuan Xu in surprise and asked, “What can I do, Brother Yuan Xu?”
“I’ll ask the lady first when I get back. After that, I’ll let you know if there’s anything you can do,” Yuan Xu said. He wasn’t sure what Pan Minjun could do, but he knew that the lady had many tasks that needed attention.
Pan Minjun nodded repeatedly. “Thank you, Brother Yuan Xu.”
“You’re welcome. I’ll take my leave now.”
Yuan Xu left first, and Pan Changsheng took his daughter home. On the way back, he asked her, “Minjun, do you want to work?”
“If I can find something I can do, I’d like to. Grandfather needs money for his medicine,” Pan Minjun said to her father.
Pan Changsheng felt conflicted but ultimately said, “If you want to go, then go. Yuan Xu is your lifesaver, and we should thank him properly in the future.”
“Father, don’t worry. I know what to do,” Pan Minjun said. She planned to bring back some fabric to make a few outfits for Yuan Xu. Their body sizes were similar, so making clothes based on her brother’s measurements should work.
Wang Jinhe, seeing Yuan Xu return so late, asked with surprise, “Yuan Xu, weren’t you supposed to help Pan Ming deliver the money? Why did you come back so late?”
“Something happened at Pan Ming’s house,” Yuan Xu told Wang Jinhe about Pan Minjun’s situation.
Wang Jinhe’s expression turned grim as he listened. “Liu’s intentions are truly malicious. It’s a good thing you arrived in time; otherwise, Pan Ming’s sister would have been ruined.”
“Indeed. Liu has no shame. She knew what kind of person her brother is and still wanted to harm someone else’s sister,” Yuan Xu said with disgust.
“Now that it’s resolved, everything is fine, right?” Wang Jinhe asked.
“It’s been taken care of. Liu Bao received thirty lashes and will be detained for three months, while Liu was given forty lashes and will be detained for six months. I asked the county magistrate to keep them together. Given Liu Bao’s resentment towards Liu, her days in prison will be far from pleasant,” Yuan Xu explained.
“That’s a good way to handle it.” Liu Bao probably resents Liu to the core. If it weren’t for her, he wouldn’t have ended up in this situation.
“Do you have any tasks that the young lady can handle?” Yuan Xu hesitated before asking.
Wang Jinhe was taken aback. “You want to find something for Pan Minjun to do?”
Yuan Xu nodded. “I’m thinking that with Liu Bao and Liu detained, there might be trouble if only Pan Minjun is left at home. Having her work can keep her away from these troubles and protect herself.”
