“I definitely can’t beat you,” Su Jiu spoke the truth. He indeed couldn’t defeat Su Yu.
His martial arts talent had always been exceptional, and after returning from Forget Sorrow City, his skills had become even more formidable. Compared to Su Yu, he was indeed slightly weaker.
Su Yu snorted and ignored Su Jiu.
“What are your plans regarding the Imperial Censorate?” Su Jiu changed the subject when he saw that Su Yu was ignoring him.
“I’ll decide when I get back.”
Yin Fan, who had been listening, understood that there were people causing trouble for Su Yu because of Qi Ming. “Brother Yu, I’ll have someone investigate the officials from the Imperial Censorate to find out who’s behind this.”
“Okay.” Su Yu nodded in agreement with Yin Fan’s approach.
“Are you sure it’s safe to bring them out of Forget Sorrow City?” Su Jiu asked.
Su Yu nodded. “They won’t cause any trouble.”
Of course, that was as long as they didn’t provoke them.
“I can tell from your expression that you’re not done talking,” Su Jiu said, somewhat annoyed.
“As long as they don’t cross their limits, they are quite reasonable,” Su Yu said seriously, looking at Su Jiu.
Su Jiu was taken aback, but he found his brother’s words believable.
“I believe you. I can see that they listen to you. You should keep an eye on them in the future,” Su Jiu said, smiling at Su Yu.
“Okay.”
In the room, Wang Jinhe looked at Ming Wanning with concern and asked, “Are you okay?”
“Jinhe, I’ve completely given up. I thought I was her great-granddaughter too, and I thought she treated us all the same. Now I realize it was all just wishful thinking,” Ming Wanning said, with a self-deprecating look in her eyes.
“What are you planning to do?” Wang Jinhe asked.
“After I return, I won’t let that despicable person off the hook,” she said, referring to the vile person who had given her poison for the sake of a man.
“As long as you know what you’re doing. Do your parents know about this?”
“Of course they know. My father won’t let them off the hook,” Ming Wanning replied.
“Don’t think too much about it now. Stay here, recover, and then go back. It’s a good thing you remembered what I told you about seeking help from my brother,” Wang Jinhe reassured her.
Ming Wanning’s eyes darkened. “Jinhe, I owe my life to Mr. Su this time. If he hadn’t had something to attend to and brought me along, I might not have made it here alive.”
“What happened?” Wang Jinhe asked.
“That mother and daughter were so determined to see me dead. They even sent someone to kill me on my way here. If Mr. Su hadn’t been with me, I might have…” Ming Wanning’s eyes were filled with resentment.
She wouldn’t let this go so easily.
“Why did they want you dead so badly?” Wang Jinhe asked.
“They found out that I went to see Mr. Su, and they guessed that I would definitely come to find you. They were worried that once I recovered, I would seek revenge, so they decided to take drastic measures and kill me. They just didn’t expect Mr. Su to be with me,” Ming Wanning explained, frowning.
“After Mr. Su took care of those people, I asked him to help me send the assassin back to them,” Ming Wanning said, looking at Wang Jinhe with a smile on her face, though it didn’t reach her eyes.
“That’s good.” Sending the assassin’s body back would surely make the mother and daughter worry and fear for their safety.
As they were talking, Wan Gu knocked on the door and entered, holding some medicine. “Madam.”
“Is the antidote ready?” Ming Wanning asked.
“Yes, the poison was too weak, not challenging at all,” Wan Gu said. With just a pulse check, he could tell what kind of poison had been used. He had been playing with poisons since he was ten years old.
Wang Jinhe’s mouth twitched. How disdainful must Wan Gu be to say such things?
“She just need to take this and she’ll be fine?” Wang Jinhe asked, holding the bottle of medicine that Wan Gu handed over.
“Yes, but she’ll need to rest for a long time afterward. After all, this kind of medicine is quite damaging to the body,” Wan Gu explained.
“That’s okay. Wanning, why don’t you stay here for a while? We have plenty of health improving fruits and vegetables here, which will make it easier for you to recuperate,” Wang Jinhe suggested.
Ming Wanning felt a bit embarrassed. “Will I be causing too much trouble for you?”
“Not at all. Shanshan is here too, and you can chat with her when you have free time,” Wang Jinhe shook her head.
“In that case, I’ll impose on you,” Ming Wanning said.
Wang Jinhe took out the medicine and fed it to Ming Wanning.
After taking the antidote, Ming Wanning’s face turned a momentary shade of pallor, and she appeared to be in some pain.
“Wan Gu, come and see what’s wrong with Wanning,” Wang Jinhe said, concerned.
Wan Gu wanted to say that this was normal, but seeing Wang Jinhe so worried, he walked over to check Ming Wanning’s pulse.
After examining her, Wan Gu reassured them, “Madam, don’t worry. The poison is slowly dissipating. It’s a process that will take about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn.”
“Is there no way to alleviate Wanning’s pain a little?” Wang Jinhe asked.
Before Wan Gu could respond, Ming Wanning spoke up, “It’s not necessary. This way, I can remember the pain they caused me.”
Wan Gu raised an eyebrow, quite impressed by this young woman.
Wang Jinhe, seeing Ming Wanning’s resolute attitude, could only nod in resignation. “Alright.”
After Wan Gu left, neither Su Yu nor Su Jiu spoke. Su Jiu then asked, ” Wan Gu, How is she?”
“She’s in the process of detoxification, which will take about the time it takes for an incense stick to burn. After that, she will be weak for a while, but with the fruits and vegetables here, she should be fine after a few months of recuperation,” Wan Gu casually remarked.
If it takes several months of recuperation with the fruits and vegetables here at Wang Jinhe’s place, then could the poison be that potent?
Seeing Su Jiu’s apparent confusion, Wan Gu kindly explained, “This poison is very damaging to the body. Although the detoxification process is complete, it has still caused fundamental harm. It will take some time to fully recover.”
Su Jiu nodded in understanding. “I see. So everything will be fine afterward?”
Wan Gu looked at Su Jiu with a strange expression, as if he had never seen the young master show such concern for a girl before.
Seeing both Wan Gu and Su Yu looking at him, Su Jiu asked in confusion, “Why are you both looking at me like that?”
“Nothing, but it seems like you rarely show such concern for a girl, big brother,” Su Yu remarked.
Wan Gu nodded in agreement. Previously, all the girls who approached Su Jiu were ignored, but it seemed different with this Miss Ming.
Clearing his throat, Su Jiu said irritably, “Stop talking nonsense.”
“Big brother, are we really talking nonsense?” Su Yu asked, looking at Su Jiu with a knowing smile.
Su Jiu was speechless.
“Big brother, I don’t mind if you find me a sister-in-law,” Su Yu said, giving Su Jiu a playful look.
Ignoring Su Yu, Su Jiu remained silent.
Before he could forget his past love, it wouldn’t be fair to anyone for him to marry. He wouldn’t do such a thing.
As brothers, how could Su Yu not understand what Su Jiu was thinking?
He simply believed that he hadn’t yet forgotten the person from his past, and it wouldn’t be right to marry again.
However, he seemed to be unaware that traces of Ming Wanning had already found a place in his heart, and it was only a matter of time before they became more apparent.
And indeed, Ming Wanning was truly an exceptional person, one who couldn’t be ignored.
Now that she have left a mark on Su Jiu’s heart, replacing the person from his past was only a matter of time.
