Su Yu was amused by Wang Jinhe’s words. “It’s better to burst than to starve.”
“But you don’t need to worry. Your mother hasn’t returned yet. Once she’s back at the Gu family, they won’t dare to scheme against you.”
“Really? Is my mother that formidable?” It had been twenty years since her mother had last visited the Gu family. Was her mother’s influence still so strong there? Was Su Yu just teasing her?
“If your mother had been a man back then, Gu Sheng wouldn’t have had any say. Some of the people who knew your mother back then still hold her in high regard. Even after her disappearance for so many years, her status in the Gu family has not changed,” Su Yu explained, referring to Gu Jiuning.
Wang Jinhe grumbled, “I feel like I’m just a lazy fish compared to my mother.”
This sentiment became even more apparent after a deeper understanding of the situation.
“What are you talking about? You’re only idle when you’re in the capital. When do you ever rest properly in Xie Village? You always find something to do every day,” Su Yu said, looking at Wang Jinhe with a displeased expression.
It was fine when she wasn’t busy, and she could stay at home and spend time with him and the children. But once she got busy, she wouldn’t return home until after dark. How could Wang Jinhe dare to call herself a lazy fish?
“Hehe, I was just saying. You don’t have to take it seriously,” Wang Jinhe said earnestly.
After speaking, she couldn’t help but laugh.
Seeing that Wang Jinhe was no longer concerned about Gu Yanzhe, Su Yu was satisfied.
“Jinhe, you still need to be careful. I don’t think Gu Yanzhe will just let it go,” Su Yu warned. Gu Yanzhe would definitely try to find an opportunity to see Jinhe. It would be troublesome if it led to any misunderstandings.
Running her hand through her hair, Wang Jinhe, feeling a bit agitated, asked, “Su Yu, can I handle him?”
“I will take care of this matter,” Su Yu assured her.
“Alright.”
“Didn’t you have to go to the palace today? Why are you still at home?” Su Yu had told her last night that he might be late coming back today because he had to go to the palace. Wang Jinhe had already gone out to buy fabric and returned, but he was still at home?
Su Yu was taken aback for a moment before remembering that he had arranged to discuss matters with the emperor and his elder brother yesterday.
With a light cough, Su Yu awkwardly said, “I forgot about that.”
“Then why aren’t you going now?” It was quite embarrassing for Su Yu to have kept the emperor and his elder brother waiting for so long.
“Alright, I’ll go now.” Su Yu had intended to continue advising on these matters, but he decided against it. Jinhe was well aware of the situation and knew what she was doing.
After Su Yu entered the palace, Wang Jinhe called for Yuan Xu. “Madam, did you send Gu Yanzhe back?”
“I returned halfway, Madam.”
Wang Jinhe nodded knowingly. “He didn’t say anything offensive, did he?”
Wang Jinhe was mainly concerned about Gu Yanzhe saying anything hurtful about Su Yu. Yuan Xu hadn’t expected Wang Jinhe to be so accurate in her guess. However, he didn’t care about what Gu Yanzhe had said. Even if the young master found out, he would just dismiss Gu Yanzhe’s words.
“What did he say, Yuan Xu?” Wang Jinhe asked calmly. She wanted to know what Gu Yanzhe had said.
“He believes that the young master is trying to sow discord between you and him,” Yuan Xu replied.
Wang Jinhe sprayed out the water she was drinking, wiped her mouth, and looked at Yuan Xu in disbelief. “Did he really say that?”
Yuan Xu nodded, confirming that he did.
Wang Jinhe suddenly felt at a loss for words.
“Where does he get the confidence to think that Su Yu would do such a thing?” Su Yu had just as much on his plate as Gu Yanzhe, with his own responsibilities and the coursework of their four children. He was too busy to have time to speak ill of Gu Yanzhe. Did Gu Yanzhe think too highly of himself?
Yuan Xu had initially been somewhat displeased and didn’t like Gu Yanzhe, but Wang Jinhe’s reaction made him unable to hold back a chuckle.
“You’re right, Madam. Where does Gu Yanzhe get the confidence to say such things? Doesn’t he fear the consequences of his words?” Yuan Xu agreed.
“From now on, there’s no need to inform me when Gu Yanzhe comes over. If asked, just say I’m not available,” Wang Jinhe instructed.
“Understood.”
After Yuan Xu left, Wang Jinhe rested her head on the table, lost in thought.
Should she find some way to entertain Gu Yanzhe? It was quite annoying that he kept causing trouble.
Seeing Wang Jinhe lost in thought, as if calculating something, Su Yu couldn’t help but feel a twinge of sympathy for Gu Yanzhe.
For some reason, Yuan Xu’s concern became more apparent.
“Madam, why don’t you just confront him directly?” Yuan Xu suggested after some consideration.
Seeking revenge on the spot would prevent people from being on edge.
Anyone with a brain would understand how settling scores works.
Wang Jinhe turned to look at Yuan Xu and couldn’t help but chuckle. “Yuan Xu, you always make me feel like I’m a ferocious beast.”
Yuan Xu’s mouth twitched, and he responded helplessly, “Madam, that’s not what I meant.”
If he dared to think that way, life would become unbearable once the young master returned.
“Alright, you don’t need to explain so clearly. I understand what you mean,” Wang Jinhe said, seeing Yuan Xu’s helpless expression.
“Why wait to address this matter?” Yuan Xu asked. He knew Wang Jinhe well and was surprised to see her wanting to deal with someone later, especially when she usually took swift action.
“He was already reprimanded by Su Yu today, so I can’t find an excuse to cause trouble for him,” Wang Jinhe explained, leaving Yuan Xu dumbfounded. He had never expected this from her.
“This time, let’s let it go. We’ll talk about what comes next later. By the way, has there been any news about Gu Xiruo recently?” Wang Jinhe asked, tapping her fingers lightly on the table.
“Since the dispute and parting of ways with Lu Lingfeng, Gu Xiruo has been busy with her own business affairs. She’s aware that Lu Lingfeng is seeking out his true savior and plans to disrupt it,” Yuan Xu briefly informed Wang Jinhe about Gu Xiruo’s situation.
After listening, Wang Jinhe lightly tapped the tabletop with her fingertips.
Gu Xiruo was truly persistent. Despite the circumstances, she was still able to carry out such actions, which was simply absurd.
“Is that so? Have someone keep an eye on Gu Xiruo. If she tries to harm anyone, they must intervene and save the person,” Wang Jinhe said. She would be pleased to see Gu Xiruo’s parents’ reaction.
“Yes, I know what to do,” Yuan Xu acknowledged.
Wang Jinhe waved her hand, signaling for Yuan Xu to get to work.
After everyone had left, Wang Jinhe felt extremely bored.
As she began sewing, Gu Yanzhe have already returned to the Gu family, and at the same time Gu Xiruo learned about him visiting Wang Jinhe.
Gu Xiruo arrived at Gu Yanzhe’s courtyard and found him sitting at the stone table, seemingly lost in thought.
“What are you trying to do? Don’t you realize the trouble you’re causing me?”
