Chapter 536: When to Go for the Proposal

Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but smile as she looked at Ming Wanning. “You’re right in thinking that way.”

With so many people present, no matter the reason, if Ming Wanning really laid a hand on Yu Manxue, it would be the talk of the town this afternoon. Wasn’t she just trying to tarnish Ming Wanning’s reputation?

Ignoring Yu Manxue was the best counterattack. As for what to do next, that was a matter for private discussion.

In private, they could settle their scores and grievances.

“Does Yu Manxue think I’m still the same person who would explode at her provocation?” If that’s what she thought, Yu Manxue was gravely mistaken.

During these months in Xie family village, she had learned a lot from Jinhe’s mother.

Getting angry when provoked might provide temporary relief, but it also came with risks. After all, no one knew if the other party was prepared.

Quietly dealing with it and discreetly handling people was the best approach.

“Yu Manxue has been indulged by her family and has become somewhat self-righteous,” Wang Jinhe said thoughtfully, propping up her chin.

“That’s also what my mother said. She mentioned that Yu Manxue has become quite arrogant since her engagement,” Ming Wanning recounted the situation to Wang Jinhe.

Some of the information she had learned from her parents, while some came from her younger sisters.

When she heard about it, she felt that Yu Manxue’s behavior was unworthy, even if she were to perform as an actress.

Wang Jinhe found it quite amusing. How could there be such a peculiar person?

“Your cousin’s mind doesn’t seem to be functioning properly,” Wang Jinhe said seriously after giving it some thought.

“In fact, our thoughts are quite similar. Her mind indeed doesn’t seem to be functioning properly.”

Time always flew by when chatting with Ming Wanning. In the evening, after Ming Wanning had returned home, Su Yu and Su Jiu came back together.

Seeing Su Jiu returning with Su Yu, Wang Jinhe smiled and said, “Big brother, if you had come a little earlier, you would have met Wanning. It’s a pity she has already left; she’s probably home by now.”

Su Jiu looked helplessly at Wang Jinhe, realizing that his younger sister had been teasing him a lot lately.

“Xiao He, what did I do to offend you? You keep teasing me,” he asked.

“Big brother, you’ve misunderstood. I’m not teasing you; I’m actually helping you,” Wang Jinhe said solemnly, trying to convince him.

However, both of them were too clever to be easily fooled.

“Xiao He, stop teasing brother,” Su Yu said.

“Alright, big brother, when are you going to propose?” Wang Jinhe suddenly asked, shocking both Su Yu and Su Jiu with her unexpected question.

“Isn’t it too early to talk about this? Are you in a rush?” Su Jiu said, feeling both amused and exasperated.

If he had known that he would be pressured about marriage when coming over for a meal, he wouldn’t have come.

“It’s not that I’m in a rush. It’s just that Wanning was really bullied today. Don’t you need to help her save face and give those people a good beating?” Wang Jinhe innocently suggested.

She wasn’t in a rush at all, but she just couldn’t believe that Su Jiu wasn’t eager to bring someone home.

Upon hearing about Ming Wanning being bullied, Su Jiu furrowed his brow and asked, “What happened?”

Wang Jinhe recounted the situation to Su Jiu exactly as Ming Wanning had told her, without exaggeration.

“That Yu Manxue is really shameless.”

“That’s why I asked when you’re going to propose, big brother. You  should make it a big deal and give them a good slap in the face, what do you think?” Wang Jinhe asked with a mischievous smile.

Su Jiu, with a displeased expression, instructed Wang Jinhe, “Xiao He, have Wanning come over tomorrow.”

“Sure.”

The next day, when Ming Wanning arrived and saw Su Jiu, she felt a bit embarrassed. She shot a fierce glance at Wang Jinhe, wondering why she hadn’t mentioned this.

Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but chuckle at Ming Wanning’s reaction. “Come and sit down, Wanning.”

Ming Wanning sat down next to Wang Jinhe, feeling a bit embarrassed but also somewhat happy.

Seeing Ming Wanning, Su Jiu was at a loss for words.

Su Yu, observing Su Jiu’s helplessness, suggested, “Big brother, let’s go to the study.”

“Okay.”

As Su Yu and Su Jiu left, Su Yu glanced at Wang Jinhe, who nodded in understanding.

After they left, before Wang Jinhe could speak, Ming Wanning asked, “Jinhe, why didn’t you tell me that Mr. Su was here?”

“It was my brother who asked me to call you over, but I didn’t expect him to feel embarrassed after calling you,” Su Jiu’s behavior was truly amusing.

Ming Wanning was taken aback, clearly not expecting that it was Su Jiu who had summoned her.

“Did he tell you what this is about?”

“He did. I told him about you being bullied yesterday, and then he asked me to call you over. He probably wanted to ask for your thoughts. I think if you agree to marry my brother, he might go to the palace and request the Emperor to arrange your marriage,” Wang Jinhe said, leaving Ming Wanning bewildered. Why did she have to mention such a thing?

“Jinhe, he’s so busy. You shouldn’t have told him about this trivial matter.”

“It’s not a big deal. I’m just looking out for my brother, right?”

“Jinhe…” Ming Wanning looked at Wang Jinhe, feeling a bit embarrassed as her cheeks turned slightly pink.

In the study, Su Yu stared at his brother, making Su Jiu feel uncomfortable. “Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Nothing, I’m just curious how my brother, who fears nothing, suddenly can’t bring himself to talk about getting engaged to the person he likes,” Su Yu said, propping up his chin with great interest.

Su Jiu gave Su Yu an exasperated look. This guy seemed to thrive on chaos.

“I plan to seek the Emperor’s approval for the marriage.”

“That’s fine, but I think you should first have Grandfather discuss it with the head of the Ming family and then go to the emperor for the marriage approval. It would be better that way,” Su Yu suggested.

“Alright,” Su Jiu agreed after considering it.

“Let’s go. Xiao He should have told her by now,” Su Yu said.

After they left, Wang Jinhe called Su Yu back, leaving the two alone.

After a moment of silence, Su Jiu looked at Ming Wanning and asked, “Are you willing to marry me?”

Wang Jinhe, who was eavesdropping nearby, was almost floored. The way her brother put it was truly speechless.

Ming Wanning looked at Su Jiu, feeling both amused and exasperated, but she nodded in agreement, “Okay.”

Su Jiu was overjoyed, experiencing such happiness for the first time since Rou Rou’s passing.

“Afterward, I’ll have Grandfather go to your house to talk to your grandfather and father, and then I’ll seek the Emperor’s approval for the marriage,” Su Jiu explained.

“Okay,” Ming Wanning replied, feeling happy. She was going to marry the person she loved.

When Ming Wanning returned home, her face was still flushed. After the family finished dinner, she spoke up, “Mom, Dad, I have something to tell you.”

“What is it?” Both Ming’s parents and even Ming’s grandfather looked at her curiously.

Feeling a bit embarrassed under their gaze, Ming Wanning said, “I want to marry Su Jiu.”
