Ming Wanning’s brother turned to his younger cousin, “What did you say?”
Prince Yu is the dandy scholar?
“It’s true. The news just broke on New Year’s Eve. The Prime Minister even wants to resign and have Prince Yu take his place,” his younger cousin replied.
Ming Wanning’s brother looked at Su Jiu with a twitching mouth, gritting his teeth. “Brother-in-law, you found quite the ally.”
Prince Yu was a man of both literary and martial talents. What chance did they have against him? It was already fortunate enough not to be at odds with Prince Yu.
“After this, my brother will handle it himself,” Su Yu interjected, realizing that he had dampened the groom’s enthusiasm. He spoke up immediately.
After all, his elder brother was no pushover. He had more than enough to deal with these people.
“Really?”
“Really.”
Without Su Yu’s interference, Su Jiu finally realized how much trouble it was to be held back by others. However, he found joy in it. It was understandable to be at odds when taking someone’s sister as a bride. Su Yu followed behind, watching them engage in their mental and tactical battle.
Suddenly, he felt that his elder brother had been very accommodating during his own wedding, not causing too much trouble for him.
As they were about to enter Ming Wanning’s courtyard, the number of people blocking their way increased, all of them being Ming Wanqing’s group of young girls.
So, Su Jiu took out a thick stack of red envelopes, two for each person, each containing ninety-nine taels.
“Brother-in-law, do you think that two red envelopes can just take my sister away?” Ming Wanqing raised an eyebrow. As she said that, Su Jiu handed out two more, and when they still didn’t budge, he handed out two more.
He knew that these young girls usually didn’t have much pocket money, and each red envelope was worth nearly a hundred taels. He gave each of them ten, which added up to a thousand taels.
“It’s not that we’re not stopping Brother-in-law, it’s just that Brother-in-law knows us too well,” Ming Wanqing happily said as she hugged the red envelopes.
Ming Jing shook his head helplessly as he looked at his younger sister. He was quite satisfied with his brother-in-law’s generosity.
“Brother-in-law, please come in.”
Su Jiu glanced at the remaining thirty red envelopes and handed them all to Ming Wanqing. “You can share these with your sisters. If you’re willing, you can also give one to each of your cousins. I’ll prepare gifts for you when your sister returns home.”
With so many red envelopes, Ming Wanqing’s face turned red with excitement. “Thank you, Brother-in-law.”
Ming Wanqing and the other girls from the Ming family all stepped aside, allowing Su Jiu and his party to enter.
Then, they began to distribute the red envelopes. Each of the seven sisters received two red envelopes, and the remaining ones were given to their brothers. After each of the boys received two red envelopes, there was one left. They collectively decided to leave it for Ming Wanqing.
“Brother-in-law is so generous. Just the red envelopes alone must be worth tens of thousands of taels of silver.”
“Yes, in the future, Sister will definitely live a good life.”
Su Yu leaned against his brother and watched as the girls from the Ming family distributed the red envelopes. He beckoned to Yuan bao, who was carrying a basket filled with red envelopes.
“Thank you all for your kindness,” Su Yu said as he handed each of them a red envelope from the basket.
The idea of giving red envelopes was Wang Jinhe’s. In her previous life, the groom bribed the bride’s family with red envelopes during the wedding procession. If one red envelope wasn’t enough, he would give another. He didn’t have much, but he had money. It was rare for his elder brother to find a girl he liked, so spending a little money was nothing.
Ming Wanqing suddenly received a handful of red envelopes. Upon a quick glance, there were at least ** taels in each, and they were even thicker than the red envelopes given by her brother-in-law.
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
“You’re welcome.” After distributing one to each person, there were still over twenty red envelopes left, and Ming Wanqing and a few other girls each took a few more.
After Su Yu finished distributing the red envelopes, he was about to enter when a figure suddenly rushed towards him. Su Yu saw the cold look in the person’s eyes and stood still without moving.
As Yu Manxue thought she was about to succeed, Yuan Bao blocked her path and kicked her away just as she was about to approach Su Yu.
“How dare you lay a hand on His Highness. You have some nerve,” Ming Jing took a deep breath and looked at Yu Manxue as if she were a dead person. “The Ming family will hold you accountable for this matter involving His Highness.”
“This has nothing to do with your Ming family. It seems that your family hasn’t learned its lesson from the previous incident. Yuan ji, throw her out of the Ming family. Also, suppress the branch of the Yu family and tell them not to entertain any thoughts they shouldn’t have,” Su Yu ordered coldly.
Su Yu knew everything he needed to know about the Ming family. Apart from the elderly lady, everyone else was fine. The relationships between the main branches of the family were similar to those in the Su family, and Su Yu was very satisfied with the Ming family in this regard.
“Ming Jing, tell your father that indecision leads to chaos. Some people are better off leaving early to prevent future entanglements with the Ming family. The children of your generation in the Ming family are all very good. Don’t ruin your future for the sake of others,” Su Yu said. He knew that the boys of Ming Jing’s generation were all good students. Three of them had already passed the imperial examination at a young age of thirteen or fourteen, and two had become successful candidates. One of them was likely to achieve the same this year. It wouldn’t be worth it to ruin their futures for someone like Yu Manxue.
The boys of the Ming family were excited to hear Su Yu’s praise. After all, he was the dandy Scholar.
“Yes, I will explain everything to my father and my uncles,” Ming Jing replied.
” Yuan Ji, Lock her up for now. We’ll deal with it after my elder brother’s wedding.” Today was his elder brother’s wedding day, and it wasn’t suitable for causing trouble.
Ming Jing felt relieved upon hearing Su Yu’s words. “Thank you, Your Highness.”
“You’re needed inside. You should go in now,” they pointed to Ming Wanning’s room.
“Alright, I’ll go in first.”
Ming Jing suppressed his anger and went to his sister’s room to escort her to her wedding. Fortunately, Prince Yu didn’t implicate the Ming family today. Otherwise, what would his younger brothers do?
They worked so hard at their studies every day.
However, for now, they would set this matter aside and settle the score with Yu Manxue after his sister’s wedding.
Meanwhile, Ming Wanqing was furious. She took the red envelopes and went to find Madam Ming.
Madam Ming was giving some instructions to her daughter and was planning to have her son escort her daughter to the wedding when Ming Wanqing pulled her aside. “Mother, I need to talk to you about something.”
Madam Ming stopped and looked at her daughter. “What’s the matter?”
“Mother, when His Highness was distributing red envelopes to us, Yu Manxue actually rushed towards him, she seemed to want to throw herself to his highness. Is she trying to use accidental type of scheme against His Highness?” Ming Wanqing trembled with anger.
“Mother, you don’t know how fortunate it is that His Highness didn’t take it out on our family. Otherwise, what would our brothers do? His Highness is highly regarded by the Emperor. If he were to speak out, it would ruin the future of our brothers,” Ming Wanqing grew more and more upset as she spoke.
“Furthermore, His Highness voluntarily postponed dealing with this matter to prevent our family from becoming a laughingstock. You and Father must deal with Yu Manxue severely. Otherwise, we would be failing to consider His Highness’s kindness towards our family,” she urged.
Madam Ming’s expression darkened as she listened to her daughter. “After this matter, I will inform your father. Get ready, we will go to the Su family together.”
