“I have a few more design drawings here that I want you to produce, and the more, the better,” Su Yu handed over several sketches to Xuan Feiran.
After reviewing the drawings, Xuan Feiran passed them to the officials from the Ministry of Works and the Ministry of War.
Both officials were excited after examining the designs. “These catapults and crossbows are essential for both attacking and defending a city,” the Minister of War exclaimed.
“And these crossbow arrows are much more effective and convenient to carry than bows and arrows,” he added.
Several generals, seeing the officials’ excitement, also came over to take a look.
“Indeed, we’ll leave these matters to you,” Su Yu said.
“Rest assured, we will take care of it. We guarantee that it will be done well,” the officials assured.
With the weapons matter settled, Su Yu continued, “Yesterday, I discussed with Jinhe that we will cultivate a batch of high-quality medicinal herbs this year, and we will also prepare the grain for the autumn harvest.”
The generals smiled. This was probably the most relaxed preparation for war they had experienced. Everything could be ready before the fighting began.
“In addition, after we return to Xie Family Village, we will produce a batch of convenient foods and distribute backpacks containing finished medicines for treating external injuries to each army,” Su Yu added.
“Prince, you are generous. Right now, our main concern is the possibility of Qi Empire and Ling Empire joining forces. It might be troublesome for us to face them alone,” one of the generals remarked.
“You don’t need to worry about that. I have already taken care of it, and they won’t have the opportunity to join forces,” Su Yu affirmed.
Although they didn’t know what Su Yu had done, they trusted his words.
“Thank you, Your Highness.”
“There’s one more thing, Elder Brother. Jinhe and I can spare over 20,000 catties of grain seeds, and we plan to hand them over to Nan Qiao. Then, Nan Qiao can propose an alliance between Xuan Empire and Nanchao,” Su Yu continued.
After meeting Nan Qiao, Xuan Feiran had also considered this idea. He had been planning to discuss it with Su Yu and ask for Nan Qiao’s opinion, but it turned out that Su Yu had already made the arrangements.
“Alright, we’ll go with your plan.”
“Understood.”
The generals exchanged glances. Nanchao’s terrain was strategic and easy to defend, and if it could become an allied country, it would be beneficial. At least they wouldn’t have to worry about the peculiar things in Nanchao.
With everything that needed to be discussed covered, Su Yu looked at them. “Is everything settled? If so, I’ll take my leave.”
“Go ahead and attend to your business. I’ll handle the rest,” Xuan Feiran assured. He knew that Su Yu had already made the necessary arrangements, and he didn’t want Su Yu to take care of everything.
“Alright.”
Indeed, Su Yu still had things to take care of, and he could leave the rest to his Elder Brother.
After Su Yu left, Xuan Feiran’s demeanor changed, and the others exchanged glances. It was clear that only the prince of Xuan received favor from the Emperor, and they were nothing in comparison.
As soon as Su Yu left the palace, he encountered Qi Ming. Seeing him, Su Yu couldn’t help but feel annoyed. It seemed like there was no end to this.
“Why are you helping Xuan Feiran?” Qi Ming asked bluntly, blocking Su Yu’s path.
Su Yu looked at Qi Ming coldly. “What’s it to you?”
“Su Yu, you better not be too rude when I’m talking to you.”
With a swift movement, Su Yu was already a hundred meters away.
“I have no connection with you, Qi Ming. Even if we meet again, you are nothing more than an enemy to me. I hope the Prince of Qi remembers his place,” Su Yu’s voice came from behind, and Qi Ming turned around abruptly, but saw nothing.
Qi Ming felt a chill run down his spine at Su Yu’s agility. If Su Yu decided to act, he could take his life without Qi Ming even realizing it.
His subordinates clenched their fists unconsciously. Qi Ming looked in the direction where Su Yu had disappeared, wondering when he had become so powerful.
When they first met, Su Yu’s martial arts skills were formidable, but not to this extent. It seemed that there were few individuals in all the Empire combined who could match Su Yu.
How old was Su Yu now? Twenty-three years old. How had he become a top expert in less than ten years?
What had Su Yu experienced during the years they were apart?
When Su Yu returned home, Luo Hou keenly sensed that something was amiss with his aura, much like the uncontrollable aura he had when he first went to the Forget sorrow City.
“What happened, Brother Yu?” Luo Hou asked.
“I encountered someone who is asking for trouble but I can’t deal with him right now,” Su Yu said, his eyes filled with disgust towards Qi Ming.
That disgust seemed to be ingrained in his bones.
“Is it Qi Ming again? I’ll go teach him a lesson, Brother Yu,” Luo Hou offered.
Su Yu shook his head. “No need. I will go to the battlefield during the major battle, and I will settle the score there.”
Luo Hou looked at Su Yu in surprise. “Brother Yu, you want to go to the battlefield?”
Su Yu nodded. “Qi Ming must die by my hands.”
He looked up at the gloomy sky, which seemed as if it could snow at any moment. His mood was equally grim.
“Luo Hou, please call Wan Gu for me. I have something for him to do.”
“Alright.” After Su Yu’s instructions the previous day, Nan Qiao, Bai Qi, and Wan Gu had started experimenting with the known formulas for treating external injuries. The three of them were locked in the pharmacy, working as if under a spell. Even Luo Yan had something to do, leaving only him with nothing to do.
Luo Hou went to the pharmacy, knocked on the door, and then entered. “Wan Gu, Brother Yu needs you.”
Wan Gu looked up at Luo Hou and nodded, then set aside what he was doing and went to find Su Yu.
“Luo Hou, why did Brother Yu call for Wan Gu?”
“He’s probably going to deal with Qi Ming. Brother Yu came back from the palace today in a very bad mood, much like when he couldn’t control the aura in his body in the Forget Sorrow City.”
“Have you noticed that both Brother Yu and Wan Gu seem to harbor a deep hatred for Qi Ming? We know what Qi Ming did to Brother Yu, but it seems that it’s not enough to explain why Wan Gu and Yuan Bao react with such intense animosity at the mere mention of his name,” Nan Qiao remarked.
“I agree. Should we go and ask Yuan Bao?” Luo Hou suggested.
“Alright.”
The three of them, along with Luo Yan who was making gunpowder, went to find Yuan Bao.
Seeing the four of them approaching, Yuan Bao had a bad feeling, sensing that they were not coming with good intentions.
“Do you have something to discuss, gentlemen?” Yuan Bao asked.
“Of course. We want to ask you a question. Why does Brother Yu dislike Qi Ming so much? And why do you and Wan Gu react with such intense hostility at the mention of his name?” Nan Qiao looked directly at Yuan Bao, making it difficult for him to lie.
Yuan Bao smiled. “Because he made the young master of the Yu family suffer in hell. What he said about the young master crawling out of hell for revenge was absolutely true.”
“What do you mean by that?”
“The meaning is not important. What matters is that Qi Ming intended to take the young master back to Qi Empire, cripple his limbs, and imprison him for his own purposes,” Yuan Bao explained.
“He dares.” Although they didn’t fully understand Yuan Bao’s statement about Su Yu crawling out of hell for revenge, Qi Ming’s intentions enraged Nan Qiao and the others.
Luo Yan’s eyes gleamed with madness. “If Qi Ming dares to harm Brother Yu in the slightest, I will raze Qi Empire to the ground.”
“Let my gu insects have some fun with him. Bai Qi, let’s go select a gu insect. When Qi Ming leaves, we’ll send one to him. Anyone who tries to pry into Brother Yu’s affairs will pay the price,” Yuan Bao added.
