“Luo Su, you go back to the academy first. I’ll talk to Boss Yang about this matter. Tomorrow, we’ll spend the day in Xie Family Village,”Boss Luo made the decision after giving it some thought.
The County Princess had been good to them, and they were more than willing to help with this small favor.
Satisfied, Luo Su nodded. “Alright, I’ll head back now, Father.”
After Luo Su left, Boss Luo went to find Boss Yang and informed him about Wang Jinhe’s plan to build a granary.
Boss Yang responded, “Your timing is perfect. They don’t have much to do lately, so I think they should be able to help if I approach them.”
“Great, then I’ll leave it to you to handle this matter,” Boss Luo said.
“Why are you telling me this? We’ve received support from the County Princess, so it’s only right that we help her with something in return,” Boss Yang waved his hand.
Boss Luo didn’t say anything more, as he shared the same mindset as Boss Yang. Helping the County Princess in any way they could was the least they could do.
That evening, Boss Yang went to find the group of people.
“What brings you here today, Boss Yang?” Chang San asked, curious about the purpose of Boss Yang’s visit.
“Do you know about the County Princess?” Boss Yang asked Chang San.
Chang San nodded. “She’s the lucky star for the entire Fu’an County, and even for all the people in the Xuan Empire. How could I not know?”
“The County Princess wants to build a large-scale granary for storing seeds, and she couldn’t find a suitable candidate, so she asked us. I thought of you. Are you interested in this job?” Boss Yang inquired.
Upon hearing that it was for the County Princess, Chang San naturally agreed.
“I will definitely take on this task for the County Princess,” Chang San nodded.
“Alright, tomorrow morning, come to my house. I’ll take you to meet the County Princess, and then you can discuss the specific details with her,” Boss Yang said, surprised by Chang San’s straightforward acceptance. He had expected to have to persuade him.
“No problem.”
After seeing off Chang San, Chang San went to find his men.
“Youngest, quickly gather the brothers and tell them there’s work to be done,” he instructed.
“Brother, didn’t you say we wouldn’t take on any jobs for the next two months? Why the sudden change?” the youngest asked.
Chang San raised an eyebrow and asked, “Are we going to help the County Princess with her work or not?”
“Of course we should help. My family made quite a bit of money last year by following the County Princess to grow cotton. My father and the others were overjoyed,” the youngest said excitedly.
Every time he went home, he heard his family praising the County Princess, and he also thought highly of her. Now that the County Princess needed them, it was only natural for them to lend a hand.
“In that case, what are you waiting for? Hurry and inform the others. I’ll go see the County Princess with Boss Yang tomorrow. After we return, I’ll give you the specifics. Have the others get ready, as we’ll be starting work,” Chang San instructed.
“No problem.”
The next day, Chang San went to Xie Family Village with Boss Yang.
When they met the County Princess, she was sunbathing in the yard, with several strong-looking dogs lying nearby.
“We’ve found the people you were looking for,” Boss Yang informed her.
Wang Jinhe looked at the man beside Boss Yang. “Is this the person?”
“Yes, Chang San is excellent at building granaries. You can discuss any needs with him,” Boss Yang replied.
Wang Jinhe nodded in acknowledgment. “Around our area, do you see any suitable locations for the granary?”
“How big does the granary need to be?” Chang San asked after considering for a moment.
“Of course, the bigger, the better. In the future, we’ll have more and more seeds in this area, and one granary may not be enough,” Wang Jinhe replied.
When Chang San arrived, he had already observed the nearby terrain, but the land here was not suitable for building a granary. However, there was a place that seemed more suitable, although it was unclear which village’s territory it belonged to.
“This area isn’t quite suitable, but I do know of a suitable location. However, it might not be easy to purchase that land,” Chang San said, furrowing his brow.
Wang Jinhe looked at Chang San in surprise. “A suitable location? Where are you referring to? Tell me more, and let’s see if our Village Chief knows about it. Qiu Yi, please bring the Village Chief over.”
“Alright.”
It didn’t take long for Xie Kui to arrive. “Xiao He, did you call me for something?”
“Yes, there is something. Chang San, you can go ahead,” Wang Jinhe said.
“That place is quite large, but it’s not suitable for growing fruits, vegetables, or grains. There are also many rocks. Can we purchase that land?” Chang San asked.
Xie Kui thought carefully for a while before realizing what place Chang San was referring to. “You mean that place. The terrain is high, with many rocks, and indeed, it’s not suitable for cultivation. It’s not far from here, but it would take about half an hour to ride there.”
“It seems that the Village Chief is also aware of that place.”
“I do know about that place. Coincidentally, I have a good relationship with their Village Chief. I’ll go and visit. Xiao He, how much do you plan to buy?” Xie Kui didn’t ask what Wang Jinhe intended to do with the land, but instead inquired about the quantity needed.
“If possible, the more, the better. After all, we need a lot of land,” Wang Jinhe replied.
If the granary were to be built there, the soldiers’ quarters would also need to be located there. Otherwise, the distance would be too inconvenient for travel.
“Alright, I’ll go and inquire. I’ll come back to you once the negotiations are settled,” Xie Kui said.
“Thank you, Uncle.”
Xie Kui waved his hand. “What trouble are you talking about? Take care of yourself and don’t overwork.”
“I will.”
Xie Kui was restless. After leaving Wang Jinhe’s home, he went to speak with the Village Chief about the matter.
Chang San had thought that it would be difficult to acquire the land there, but to his surprise, the Village Chief had a good relationship with the landowner. This was indeed good news for them.
To wait for Xie Kui’s news, Chang San and Boss Yang waited at Wang Jinhe’s home for a while.
In the afternoon, Xie Kui hurried back.
“Xiao He, it’s been settled. It’s two taels of silver per mu, and there are probably over 500 mu of land available. What do you think? Can we take it all?” Xie Kui rushed to inform Wang Jinhe about the outcome as soon as he returned.
Wang Jinhe poured a cup of tea for Xie Kui. “Uncle, have some water first, and then we can talk.”
After drinking two cups of tea, Xie Kui finally felt more comfortable.
“I’ve settled it with him. If it weren’t for your purchase, he wouldn’t have sold it,” Xie Kui began. Initially, the person had refused to sell, but as soon as he heard that it was the County Princess who wanted to buy, he quickly changed his mind.
Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile. “Thank you for your help, Uncle.”
“No need to be polite. You don’t have to come. Just send someone with me to finalize the land deed,” Xie Kui said.
“Alright, I’ll have Chen Jinnian accompany you tomorrow.”
“Okay, Xiao He, I’ll head back now. I won’t delay your discussion,” Xie Kui said, standing up and leaving without giving Wang Jinhe a chance to respond.
