“If everything could be resolved with apologies, would the world still be so complex?” Su Yu looked at Wang Jinhe and self-deprecatingly said, “And can their apologies really make up for the harm they’ve caused me?”
Wang Jinhe nodded in agreement, “You’re right; not all apologies are deserving of forgiveness.”
“You’re absolutely right. Just because they’re my parents doesn’t mean I have to forgive them just because they apologize. They can choose to apologize, but I can also choose not to forgive them, you know? Even if they want to make amends, they can wait for me to come to them. They’ve done this many, many times before; it’s not the first time,” he found it the most ridiculous aspect of the situation.
“When did people who do wrong things become so self-righteous?”
“Recently, I haven’t gone back much in the past two or three years. Do you know why?”
“Hmm?” Wang Jinhe asked, tilting his head and looking at Su Yu.
“Because I don’t want to see them. Even if I go back, I’ll leave quickly,” Su Yu said earnestly.
With that one statement, Wang Jinhe understood the extent of the harm they had caused Su Yu.
Xiao Bao had been playing in the melon field, but when he saw that Su Yu seemed a bit unhappy, he ran over and clung to Su Yu’s leg, climbing up as if he were climbing a tree.
Su Yu reached down and lifted the child up. “What’s wrong? Treating daddy like a tree to climb?”
Xiao Bao chuckled and said, “Daddy, what’s wrong? You seem a little upset. Did someone make you angry? You can tell me, and when I grow up, I’ll help daddy get revenge.”
That innocent statement warmed Su Yu’s heart.
Su Yu reached out to ruffle Xiao Bao’s hair, a smile in his eyes. “Daddy is fine. Right now, Xiao Bao is still little, and it’s the time for Daddy to protect you. When you grow up, you can protect Daddy, okay?”
Xiao Bao nodded vigorously. “Then, Daddy, don’t be sad. Xiao Bao will be here with you.”
“Okay.”
Wang Jinhe’s mood brightened as he watched Su Yu, and he reached out to pat Xiao Bao’s head with a smile in his eyes.
Perhaps, one day, Xiao Bao would heal all the wounds in Su Yu’s heart.
“Let’s go home, shall we? We’ll pick eggs for Grandpa, alright?” Su Yu placed Xiao Bao on his neck, holding his hand and asked.
“Okay, and we can also pick melons, tomatoes, and when Mom’s strawberries and dragon fruit honeydew are ready to eat, we can bring them to Grandpa too,” Xiao Bao nodded enthusiastically. “Daddy, are there other people who are nice to you?”
“Yes, there are, like Grandpa, Uncle, and Auntie, they are all nice to me.”
“Do we have to give them eggs too? But we don’t have that many eggs, we should only give them to Daddy,” Xiao Bao added after a moment.
“Not right now, we’ll just give them to Grandpa for now.” There were plenty of people who treated him kindly, and he should be content with that. What those people did and what they wanted to play with were their own business; he didn’t want to worry about it anymore.
Wang Jinhe followed behind the two of them, watching as Su Yu carried Xiao Bao back home, and the sound of Xiao Bao’s laughter was as soothing as silver bells.
“Grandma, Daddy and I are going to get some eggs to give to Grandpa,” Xiao Bao said, hugging Su Yu’s head and resting his chin on Su Yu’s hair while looking at Grandma Wang.
Grandma Wang looked at Su Yu, and Su Yu explained, “My grandpa also likes to eat eggs. Since the eggs at home are delicious, I thought we could give Grandpa some when Yuanbao brings back watermelons.”
“I see. Xiao Bao, you can go with your daddy to get them. He knows where the eggs are,” Grandma Wang replied. Xiao Bao’s favorite thing to do every day was to collect eggs.
Xiao Bao, with his two little legs, kept swaying and said, “Daddy, let’s hurry and go get the eggs, then we’ll take them to Grandpa, and after that, we can give Grandpa some other delicious things. Can Grandpa eat the jerky Mom made?”
“He can,” Su Yu replied. His grandpa might be old, but his teeth were still in great shape.
“Let’s go get them now.”
The two of them collected fifty eggs, and then Xiao Bao dragged Su Yu to pick tomatoes.
“Last time we picked tomatoes, there weren’t so many ripe ones. This time, there are plenty,” Su Yu marveled at the ripe tomatoes.
“Daddy, let’s pick that one, the biggest one,” Xiao Bao pointed to one and urged.
“Alright, let’s go pick it.”
Afterward, Xiao Bao picked only the largest tomatoes.
After filling a whole basket, Xiao Bao ran to Su Yu while holding a big, red tomato. “Daddy, I picked this one for you. I checked, and it’s the best-looking one among all of yours. It’s big and red.”
Su Yu’s heart instantly melted, and he kissed Xiao Bao on the cheek. “Why is my son so good? Is there anyone better than my son?” Su Yu looked at Xiao Bao and said with emotion.
Xiao Bao raised his eyebrows triumphantly and said, “No.”
“Yeah, my Xiao Bao is truly one of a kind. There’s no one better than my son,” Su Yu said with a smile in his eyes, and the low mood brought about by Su Qin and his wife completely disappeared.
When Wang Jinhe returned, he saw the intimate scene between the two and remarked, “It looks like you’ve both got everything ready.”
“There are still melons to pick.”
“Then let’s continue picking,” Wang Jinhe decided to try an experiment. After watering plants that had grown from seeds with the spiritual spring water, he wanted to see if there was any difference between them and regular seeds. If they tasted better without the need for spiritual spring water, it would save a lot of unnecessary trouble.
“If this idea really works, it might help us avoid a lot of unnecessary hassle.”
“Let’s go.”
By the time Yuanbao returned with the melons, Su Yu and the others had already prepared everything they wanted to give to Su Xi.
“Yuanbao, these are for Grandpa. When you go back, take them to Grandpa together with this letter. Tell him to burn it after reading it. I don’t want anyone to know about these things. After delivering the watermelons, give two to each of my siblings, one to Uncle and one to Cousin. The others don’t need any.” As for Grandpa’s side, there were specific instructions, so he didn’t need to mention them. Yuanbao would handle it.
“Alright.”
