Chapter 662: Want to End Up in Jail?

Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law’s stepsister, feeling exposed, became somewhat uneasy. “You’re the foolish one. You didn’t take anything from the Wen family, and now you want me to do the same?”

Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law looked at her stepsister’s nonchalant demeanor and chuckled softly. “Then you should go and tell the County Princess. You dare to covet the County Princess’s daughter’s belongings. You’ve got quite the nerve.”

“I don’t care. You must give me at least half of Wen Sitong’s betrothal gifts, or I will tell our father that you are bullying me.”

Seeing the smug expression on her stepsister’s face, Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law smiled faintly. “Then go ahead and tell him.”

“You…”

“You have no ability to earn money, yet you want to claim someone else’s betrothal gifts as your own. You are just as shameless as your mother.” Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law deeply regretted bringing this person along. It was like slapping herself in the face.

She went to her husband and told him about the situation. “Husband, you must keep an eye on our younger sister’s betrothal gifts in the future, so that some shallow-minded people won’t try to take them by any means.”

“I know, but I’m worried that they might cause embarrassment in front of the County Princess. It would be shameful for our younger sister.” Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law expressed her concern, knowing what kind of person her stepsister was.

“I regret bringing her here,” Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law said with a grim expression.

“It may not necessarily be a bad thing. If she does something embarrassing, it won’t reflect on you. Even if they have objections, they won’t be able to blame you,” her husband reassured her.

Upon hearing this, Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law understood his meaning. “I understand.”

When the couple arrived in the main hall, they saw the stepsister once again approaching Wang Jinhe and her children.

She looked at the little girl’s hairpin with an intense gleam in her eyes.

Su Yu glanced at the woman and furrowed her brows slightly. “Who is that person? She has been staring at Chang Le’s hairpin.”

The look in her eyes was no longer one of simple admiration, but rather one of covetousness, as if she wanted to snatch Chang Le’s hairpin for herself.

“It’s my Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law’s stepsister. She was staring at the children’s bracelets and even wanted to hold them. After being scolded by  her stepsister, she still hasn’t shown any remorse,” Wang Jinhe said, surprised by the audacity of the woman’s behavior.

When the girl attempted to grab Chang Le’s hairpin, Su Yu suddenly intervened, striking her wrist with the cup in his hand.

“Ah!”

The scream drew everyone’s attention. When they saw her reaching for the child’s hairpin, their expressions turned strange.

Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law’s face turned livid with anger. “Qi Rong, you are shameless. If you dare to come to my house again, I will break your legs.”

Qi Rong didn’t even hear Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law’s words. Instead, she angrily demanded, “Who hit me?”

She had almost succeeded, and now she was humiliated in front of so many people.

Although the Qi family had some money, her parents would never buy her such valuable items.

Qi Rong and her mother shared the same character. They were used to taking advantage of others from a young age. Every time she visited the Wen family, she would grab whatever she fancied from Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law without any regard.

She was accustomed to grabbing things from Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law, thinking that everyone would indulge her just like Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law did.

Moreover, she was resentful that Wen Sitong was able to marry the brother of the County Princess. When Wang Jingyu had previously achieved the top score in the imperial examination, it was expected that he would participate in the imperial examination after the wedding. If he passed, Wen Sitong would become an official’s wife.

From the first time she saw Wang Jingyu, she was drawn to him. She had pleaded with her sister for help, but her sister had remained silent, and even disclosed the matter to Wen Jian and Wang Jingyu, causing Wang Jingyu to avoid her like the plague.

Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law stared blankly at Qi Rong, wondering if she understood what she was saying. Was she dissatisfied with her current life, or was there something else bothering her? Was that person someone she aspired to be?

“I’m sorry for what happened, on behalf of the Wen family,” Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law said with a bitter smile, looking at Wen Jian.

Wen Jian reached out and patted his wife’s shoulder, reassuring her, “Don’t worry, everything will be fine.”

“Is this person a relative of your family, Uncle Wen?” Su Yu asked calmly, her gaze shifting to Wen’s father.

Wen’s father shook his head helplessly. “She is the stepsister from my eldest daughter-in-law’s family. I apologize for the embarrassment.”

“With such a stepsister, Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law seems to have really run into bad luck for eight lifetimes,” Wang Jinhe said, propping her chin and smiling.

“With someone like her, I think it would be best for your family to have less contact with her in the future, Uncle Wen. It’s to prevent any precious items from being lost in the house. It’s hard to say what might happen, don’t you think?” Wang Jinhe’s gentle voice made Wen’s father’s expression stiffen.

It is said that the County Princess has a good temperament and is easy to get along with, but it seems that she is also a great  judge of people and situations.

Wen’s father looked at Qi Rong with disgust and said, “Escort her back to the Qi family and tell them not to come to our door in the future.”

Afterward, he turned to his eldest daughter-in-law and asked, “What do you think?”

“Father, I will do as you say. I have no relationship with them, and I don’t deserve to have a significant connection with them,” Wen Sitong’s sister-in-law replied earnestly.

She had long wanted to sever ties with the Qi family, but she had not found the right opportunity. Now, Qi Rong’s actions had provided her with the chance to completely disassociate herself from the Qi family, which made her very happy.

When Qi Rong realized what her sister said, her expression changed. “How dare you! Father will kill you.”

“I’d like to see who dares to take a life so casually. Do you want to end up in jail?” Wang Jinhe spoke at the right time.
