“I…”
“My sister is living well now, and her husband treats her and their child very well. They don’t need someone with ulterior motives like you interfering in their relationship,” Wang Jingyu spoke coldly, treating all the kindness he had shown Wu Xinlin in the past as if it had been wasted on a dog.
Even though he had only met Su Yu once, he was satisfied with him for various reasons: the way his nephew depended on him, his lack of resistance to him, and the positive family background he had learned about from their grandparents.
“All I can say is, your sister’s husband looks like a wealthy man. With your sister and her child in tow, how long do you think he’ll treat her well?” Wu Xinlin clenched his teeth.
Wang Jingyu chuckled, “Oh? It seems you bumped into them on the street. Didn’t you notice that my nephew and my sister’s husband share a striking resemblance?”
Two people standing together, who wouldn’t believe they were father and son?
“Seventy to eighty percent resemblance? Only biological father and son could have that,” someone muttered under their breath.
Wu Xinlin stared blankly at Wang Jingyu. All his attention had been on Wang Jinghe before, and he hadn’t even noticed whether the man and the child resembled each other. However, he knew Wang Jingyu wouldn’t lie about such a thing.
“That’s impossible,” he had been prepared to step in as the father of the child, but now he was being told that the child’s real father had come forward?
“That’s my nephew’s real father,” Wang Jingyu stated each word clearly.
“You want to be a father to my nephew? Have you considered whether my family members will accept you? Wu Xinlin, you and your family are not worthy of my sister. What happened in the past is water under the bridge, and I won’t hold you accountable for it. But if you dare to cause trouble for my sister and make her unhappy, I won’t hesitate to settle both old and new scores with you,” Wang Jingyu said with an unyielding tone.
Wu Xinlin instinctively took a step back, looking at Wang Jingyu with a sense that he meant every word, with no hint of joking.
Faced with the disdainful gazes of everyone around him, Wu Xinlin turned and left, appearing as though he was fleeing in haste.
Wang Jingyu frowned as he watched Wu Xinlin hastily retreat. Something didn’t sit right with him. Wu Xinlin wasn’t the type to suddenly bring up such matters without reason.
Wu Xinlin was a selfish and opportunistic individual. He never acted without a clear benefit in mind. So why would he suddenly say something like this?
“Jingyu, what’s on your mind?”
“Wu Xinlin is the kind of person who doesn’t get involved unless there’s a potential gain. He must have had a purpose for saying that. I’m a bit concerned,” Wang Jingyu explained, his brow furrowed.
“But your sister already have a husband, as you mentioned. Now that her husband is here, there’s no reason to worry about what Wu Xinlin might try to do, right?”
Wang Jingyu pondered for a moment and realized his friend was right. “You’re correct. My Sister’s husband isn’t someone to be trifled with, and he’s already dealt with the issue. I don’t need to worry.”
“So, what’s troubling you?”
“You’re right. Let’s go play cuju.” [1]Cuju is an ancient Chinese game that can be considered one of the earliest forms of football (soccer). It dates back to the Han Dynasty, which ruled China from 206 BCE to 220 CE. Cuju involves … Continue reading
“Sounds good.”
Little did Wang Jingyu know that this incident was not over yet.
When Wang Jinhe and Su Yu returned home with Xiao Bao, there were visitors at their house, and the expressions of the elderly people there didn’t look pleasant.
“Grandmother, who are these people?” Wang Jinhe felt that these people were constantly scrutinizing her as soon as she got home, and their gazes were quite unpleasant.
“It’s Wu Xinlin’s mother,” Gu Shi replied, her face dark.
“Oh my, this must be Xiao He, right? You’ve grown up so much. Now you have a child, yet you haven’t married. I’m sure you won’t be able to find a husband anymore. My son Xinlin is reluctantly willing to take you as his concubine. When can you make it official?” She remarked.
Wang Jinhe furrowed her brows; why were these people so annoying? Her son was like this, and now the mother was the same. Did anyone in their family know how to show some decency?
“Yuanbao, please throw these people out for me,” Su Yu said with a stern expression.
Because Wu Xinlin was already in a bad mood, he came home and immediately suggested that Little He should become someone’s concubine, as if it was a favor?
Did they really think their son was such a treasure? Everyone was rushing to snatch him?
“Who are you? When I’m talking to them, is it your turn to butt in?” Wu Xinlin’s mother retorted when she saw Su Yu’s angry response.
Su Yu gave the other woman a glance. “Who do you think I am?”
These mother and son seemed to be equally blind. He looked so much like Xiao Bao, yet they were here asking who he was?
If they didn’t want their eyes, they could just have them taken out.
When Wu shi saw how much the man resembled Wang Jinhe’s son, her face changed. She blurted out, “How can you look so much like that illegitimate child?”
Su Yu was about to take action, but Wang Jinhe was one step ahead, and she slapped Wu Shi across the face. “Who are you calling an illegitimate child?”
“How dare you hit me? I’m your mother-in-law,” Wu Shi angrily retorted, clutching her face.
“Mother-in-law? Who’s your mother-in-law? I have a son, and his father is here. What do I need a mother-in-law for? Or are you my son’s father’s mother?” Wang Jinhe coldly chuckled.
Su Yu, in disgust, added, “Jinhe, don’t talk nonsense. I don’t have such a repulsive mother.”
Although Wang Jinhe’s mother wasn’t exactly pleasant either, she was at least better than this woman by a considerable margin.
“This is my Wife. Your family members are all cut from the same cloth. Now that I’m here, do you really think I would let my wife marry into your family?” Has this person’s brain been eaten by dogs?
Gu Shi walked over and, to the astonishment of Wang Jinhe and the others, she slapped Wu Shi across the face.
“This slap is to repay your family’s slander against my daughter back then.”
Then came another slap.
“This slap is to repay your family for almost causing the death of my daughter.”
She delivered a third slap with a backhand motion.
“This slap is for the insults you hurled at my grandson today. Now, get out.” Gu shi pointed toward the door with a cold expression.
The memories of those past events were still vivid in her mind, and she could never forget the time when her daughter had almost died because of this family.
Now, with Su Yu taking care of Xiao Bao and Jinhe, they were both happy and content. But why did this person have to be so despicable, running into someone else’s home to provoke trouble?
Wu Shi was left in a daze from the continuous slaps delivered by Gu Shi.
After she finally regained her senses, she looked at Gu Shi and said, “You dare to slap me?”
Gu Shi sneered, “Should I have picked a different time to do it? Let me tell you, I’ve wanted to slap you for a long time, especially after your family slandered my daughter, causing her to lose face. I wanted to slap you even back then.”
But at that time, Wu Xinlin had just passed the civil service exam for the first time, and she couldn’t afford to stir up trouble for her family.
