Chapter 711: Still Grateful

“Everyone is already looking forward to going to war. The sooner we finish, the sooner we can go home. But it seems we won’t be able to make it back for the New Year this year,” Su Jiu sighed lightly.

Qi Empire really knew how to pick its timing, starting the action right before the New Year, preventing them from having a good holiday.

“If we can’t go home for the New Year, then let’s celebrate together. I’ll have people start preparing,” Su Yu said, squinting his eyes.

“Alright.”

As Su Yu began preparing for the battle and celebrating the New Year with the soldiers, Wang Jinhe received news from Wan Feng and the others.

“Madam, Gu Xiruo was slapped in the face by Gu Yanqi, he didn’t even give her face, and now the whole capital knows about her actions.”

“Oh?” Wang Jinhe was somewhat surprised. She hadn’t been out recently, staying at home to oversee Su Yu’s estate in the capital.

She wasn’t too informed about the recent events in the capital.

“Even before Madam Gu’s funeral, Gu Xiruo couldn’t wait to go and acquire  Madam Gu’s shop. Not only did she want to replace the shopkeepers inside, but she also appeared in bright attire without any sense of mourning, and was even confronted by Gu Yanqi. It caused quite a stir at the time, and Gu Xiruo’s reputation probably took a hit. Gu Yanqi came over right after scolding Gu Xiruo,” Wan Feng recounted all the information he knew to Wang Jinhe.

Although Wang Jinhe was unwilling to forgive Madam Gu and hadn’t visited the Gu family, she changed into plain clothes upon learning of Madam Gu’s passing.

They all understood her intentions.

Even just to honor of the kindness she had received, she didn’t even grieve for her. Wang Jinhe instinctively frowned. “Madam Gu treated her so well before, yet she’s unwilling to even maintain appearances?”

“Who wouldn’t? Many people who used to be close to Gu Xiruo are now distancing themselves from her, probably because they find her too cold-hearted,” the person beside Wang Jinhe said, frowning.

One sentence made Wang Jinhe chuckle softly, “Isn’t that normal?”

“All of Gu Xiruo’s actions are telling people what’s in her heart. Those who want to collaborate with her probably need to think twice before doing so, right?” Wang Jinhe remarked sarcastically.

“These days, Gu Xiruo showed up at the Gu family in mourning attire, but she was driven out by Gu Yanqi,” Wan Feng thought Gu Xiruo was just being foolish.

The previous events had already taken place, so what was the point of her going now? Wasn’t she just causing trouble for herself?

If she had gone from the beginning, people wouldn’t have accused her of having ulterior motives. Now, it was just a show to save face.

“Let’s not get involved in the Gu family’s affairs for now. Gu Yanqi will handle the follow-up matters,” Wang Jinhe said after some consideration.

Wan Feng looked at Wang Jinhe in surprise, seemingly not expecting her to say that.

“Madam, are you really not planning to intervene in this matter?” Wan Feng hesitated for a moment before asking.

Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile, “This is the Gu family’s own affair, it has nothing to do with us.”

Wan Feng paused for a moment, suddenly understanding what she meant.

“How has Gu Sheng been these days?” Wang Jinhe was curious to know what Gu Sheng would do after causing the death of his own wife.

“During these days while Gu Yanqi has been busy with Madam Gu’s funeral, he has started transferring the family’s power, handing over most of it to Gu Xiruo, except for what he cannot touch,” Wan Feng still thought Gu Sheng’s mind was a bit off.

Leaving the family fortune to a daughter instead of a son, his intentions were probably beyond the comprehension of an ordinary person.

Wang Jinhe frowned in surprise, “He went to such lengths for Gu Xiruo?”

Once again, Wang Jinhe began to doubt what was so special about Gu Xiruo that made Gu Sheng give up everything for her.

“Yuan Xu, come here for a moment,” Wang Jinhe called for Yuan Xu.

“Do you need me for something, Madam?” Yuan Xu asked as he approached Wang Jinhe.

Wang Jinhe nodded, “I do have something for you to do. I need you to investigate the Qing family’s affairs, as well as the recent activities of Qing Yukong. Additionally, if you see Lu Lingfeng, ask him to come over as well. I have something to discuss with him.”

“Understood.”

In the afternoon, Lu Lingfeng arrived at the Royal mansion with his men.

Seeing Wang Jinhe busy, he asked in surprise, “Princess, why did you summon me here?”

“I want to know more about Gu Xiruo,” Wang Jinhe said, setting aside the account book and looking at Lu Lingfeng.

“I can tell you about Gu Xiruo. She’s just someone who likes to put on a show,” Lu Lingfeng said in a serious tone.

“Weren’t you quite fond of her before? Why are you speaking like this now?” Wang Jinhe teased.

With a look of exasperation, Lu Lingfeng gazed at Wang Jinhe helplessly, “Princess, spare me. I’m not worthy.”

The once favorable attitude towards Gu Xiruo has now turned into strong aversion.

“Do you want to deal with Gu Xiruo?”

Wang Jinhe didn’t hide her intentions: “I don’t want her to become the head of the Gu family.”

Lu Lingfeng looked at Wang Jinhe in surprise, “Princess, are you planning to take control of the Gu family? After all, you are the true bloodline of the Gu family, while she is just an adopted daughter.”

Wang Jinhe shook her head, “I don’t have much connection with the Gu family.”

Looking at Wang Jinhe and listening to her words, Lu Lingfeng was momentarily at a loss for words.

If there’s no connection with the Gu family, why help them?

“I just don’t want to see Gu Xiruo in that state,” Wang Jinhe said, frowning.

Why did he feel like it was not the case?

Wang Jinhe looked displeased at Lu Lingfeng, “Do you have any objections?”

“No, Princess. What do you want me to do?” Lu Lingfeng quickly shook his head. Whatever the Princess wanted to do was her own business and had nothing to do with him.

However, if there was a way he could be of assistance, he was willing to help.

After a moment of silence, Wang Jinhe looked at him and said, “I want you to help me deal with Gu Xiruo. Will you agree?”

Lu Lingfeng frowned at Wang Jinhe.

Providing information to her was not a problem, as he had some understanding of Gu Xiruo over the years.

However, he couldn’t agree to deal with Gu Xiruo. He couldn’t break his promise.
