In this matter, his thoughts were in line with Wang Jinhe’s. For those who had helped Xiao He in the past, he was sure he would help them make money and live a good life together. However, for those who had secretly or openly harmed Xiao He and their family, not taking direct action against them was already giving them some face.
The village chief looked at the two of them and couldn’t help but smile. “You two are really well-matched. You have the same kind of character. I can now confidently entrust Xiao He to you. When you two get engaged, don’t forget to invite me for a drink.”
“We will definitely invite the village chief.”
“Although you have your own thoughts, you still need to be careful. Not everyone in the village is as easygoing as us. Some of them might cause trouble for you in the future. I am a bit worried about them coming after you,” the village chief said with a furrowed brow.
Su Yu let out a cold laugh. “They won’t have that chance.”
The people that Grandfather had sent to help him were not pushovers. Plus, with him around, who would dare to trouble Xiao He and them?
The village chief paused for a moment, and then it dawned on him. It seemed that Su Yu was indeed from a wealthy family, just as they had said. With him protecting Xiaohe, he felt reassured. Xiao He’s possessions could also be kept safe, and these people wouldn’t dare to try and snatch them.
However, if those people found out about Xiao He wanting to make money with the villagers, they would probably regret it.
“After you spread the news about making money by planting melons next year, some people will probably regret it so much that their intestines turn green,” the village chief teased.
Wang Jinhe smiled faintly, “That’s exactly the result I want.”
“Uncle, why don’t you go and call those families over now? I can talk to them in advance,” Wang Jinhe suggested with a smile.
The village chief paused for a moment, then playfully tapped her forehead with his finger, saying, “You little trickster.”
This girl wanted to give those people a chance to feel anxious and helpless.
“They must be curious, right? Don’t they want to know? So, I’ll give them a chance to know,” Wang Jinhe said with a smile, her face full of amusement.
The village chief shook his head helplessly. He used to worry that someone might take advantage of her, but now it seemed like he had worried too much. Who could bully her?
“Alright, wait for me for a moment. I’ll go call them.”
The village chief knew about those people. Besides those who had a good relationship with Wang Jinhe’s family, there were five other families who had secretly helped Wang Jinhe’s family during tough times. They were not living particularly well, but they had quietly supported Wang Jinhe’s family. They had just been afraid that if the rest of the villagers found out, it wouldn’t be good for them, which is why they hadn’t shown themselves.
Now, Xiaohe wanted to make money with them, and this was a good thing for them too.
When these few families arrived at the village chief’s house and saw Wang Jinhe and others there, they were a bit surprised.
This was the first time that Wang Jinhe had formally faced these people. She walked up to them with Su Yu and Xiao Bao and said, “Thank you, uncles, for helping me and my child in the past.”
The few people were taken aback for a moment and quickly waved their hands, saying, “It was just a small gesture, not worth mentioning.”
“Although it may have been a small gesture for you, it was a lifesaver for me and my child,” Wang Jinhe said earnestly as she looked at them.
After Wang Jinhe finished speaking, Su Yu looked at the few of them and said, “I am Xiao Bao’s father. Thank you all for saving the two of them.”
The few people exchanged glances when they heard Su Yu’s words. Initially, they couldn’t believe it when they heard that Xiao Bao’s father had come, but now, seeing the face that was almost identical to Xiaobao’s, they believed it completely.
“It’s alright, no matter how you look at it, it’s about saving two lives. We couldn’t openly help much, so we could only lend a hand in secret. To be honest, we haven’t done much. It’s the village chief who faced a lot of criticism for protecting Xiao Bao and his mother. Even though the village chief helped in secret just like us,” one of the villagers explained. They believed that if anyone should be thanked, it should be the village chief, not them.
“Alright, you don’t need to keep thanking each other. Let’s get to the point,” the village chief interjected, feeling a bit uncomfortable hearing their gratitude.
The villagers looked at the village chief and asked, “Village chief, did you call us here for something specific?”
“It’s not me who called you here; it’s Wang Jinhe who asked me to call you. It’s more convenient for me to call you,” the village chief said, waving his hand to make it clear.
The villagers’ gazes turned to Wang Jinhe, and one of them asked, “Wang Jinhe, is there something you want to tell us?”
“It’s nothing major. I just wanted to ask if you uncles are interested in renting some sandy land next year to plant watermelons,” Wang Jinhe asked, looking at them.
“Plant watermelons?” The villagers exchanged glances. They had heard that Wang Jinhe’s family had planted watermelons and made good money from them.
“Yes, my family will be planting watermelons next year, so I wanted to ask if you’d like to join in. If you’re interested, I can prepare your seeds along with ours when we’re breeding them. Just let me know in advance how much land you plan to use. You can rest assured that once the melons are ready, they will be sold. Su Yu and I will open some stores, and we’ll directly deliver them for sale. Of course, we won’t forget to compensate you, and the pricing will depend on the taste,” Wang Jinhe said straightforwardly.
The villagers couldn’t help but feel intrigued. “Wang Jinhe, are you planning to plant melons with the people from the village?”
Wang Jinhe shook her head, “No, I’m only planning to plant with those who have a good relationship with me, a few uncles, and the village chief’s family. I haven’t considered others.”
The villagers immediately understood Wang Jinhe’s intention. She was willing to let go of the past but not forget it. She had kept those who had once tried to harm her family in her heart.
“Child, you have to look forward in life, not backward,” one of the villagers advised.
“I understand what you’re saying, Uncle, Although I won’t seek revenge against those who harmed my family, I can’t completely fogive them. All I can do is not retaliate against them,” Wang Jinhe replied. This was already the greatest kindness she and Su Yu could offer.
“That’s great.”
“To be honest, Wang Jinhe, we do want to plant melons with you. Our family is not doing particularly well financially, and if we can grow some and make some money to support our household expenses, that would be great. But the thing is, we don’t know how to grow them. Planting watermelons is quite a delicate matter, and except for your family, none of us have any experience with it,” one of the villagers explained.
“It’s really simple. I’ll personally teach you how to do it when the time comes. You’re all experienced farmers, and I bet you’ll catch on faster than me,” Wang Jinhe said with a teasing tone.
The villagers couldn’t help but laugh. “That sounds good. From now on, we’ll be planting melons with you, Wang Jinhe.”
