Gu Xiruo looked at Qing Yukong in disbelief, his expression grim. “Qing Yukong, how dare you treat me like this? I will not forgive you.”
Qing Yi frowned as he observed Gu Xiruo’s reckless behavior, feeling a touch of disgust. “Madam, please go back.”
How well had Young Master treated her? He would help her obtain anything she desired, yet this woman still wasn’t satisfied. In Young Master’s absence, she had done so many things she shouldn’t have.
“You are nothing but a dog by Qing Yukong’s side, and you dare to command me in this manner?” Gu Xiruo now harbored no affection towards Qing Yukong.
Due to Qing Yukong’s confinement, she had even begun to resent him.
Watching Gu Xiruo’s reaction, Qing Yukong furrowed his brow, starting to reflect on his actions. Had he been too indulgent towards Gu Xiruo over the years, leading her to become the way she was now?
“Gu Xiruo, I’ll make this clear today. If you don’t sincerely apologize to Mother, you are not to go anywhere.” Qing Yukong stated firmly before turning to leave, intending to check on Madam Qing.
Upon reaching Madam Qing’s courtyard, Qing Yukong found her awake, looking pale as she leaned against the bed’s headboard. With a slight furrow in his brow, Qing Yukong approached her, full of remorse in his eyes. “Mother, I’m sorry. I didn’t know she…”
Madam Qing was pleased with Qing Yukong, even proud of him.
Observing him apologize to her, she shook her head in resignation, saying, “What are you apologizing to me for? I never expected her to behave like this.”
Though Madam Qing had intentionally indulged Gu Xiruo to make her more assertive, she never imagined Gu Xiruo would dare to speak in such a manner.
Seeing Qing Yukong’s current state, Madam Qing smiled wryly and said, “Yukong, if I had known Gu Xiruo was like this, even if you resented me, I wouldn’t have allowed you to marry her.”
Isn’t Qing Yukong already good enough to Gu Xiruo?
Every time he has to handle family affairs, Gu Xiruo starts causing trouble.
Can’t she understand the difficulties Qing Yukong faces in the Qing family?
Qing Yukong understands what Madam Qing implies; after all, he knows his mother’s character well.
Hasn’t Gu Xiruo been acting out like this for his own good during this time?
If not for him, could Madam Qing endure such grievances?
Since becoming the head of the Qing family by marrying into it, Madam Qing has never suffered like this before.
Seeing Qing Yukong silent and thoughtful, Madam Qing, feeling helpless, says, “Yukong, if Gu Xiruo continues like this, I hope you can spare yourself.”
She truly doesn’t want her son to be ruined by Gu Xiruo.
Her son should have been a pride of heaven.
How many foolish things have been done for that woman, Gu Xiruo?
Just thinking about all the things Qing Yukong has done for Gu Xiruo fills Madam Qing with utter disgust.
Qing Yukong frowned at Madam Qing. “Mother…”
Seeing Qing Yukong’s expression, Madam Qing knew there was no need for further explanation.
With a sigh, she waved her hand. “Enough, as long as you’re happy. But I hope you remember that you are the young master of the Qing family and the future head of the household. You have your own responsibilities.”
“I can overlook whatever you do for Gu Xiruo, but I hope you promise me that you won’t ruin the Qing family’s legacy because of her.” Madam Qing looked at Qing Yukong solemnly.
Qing Yukong looked at Madam Qing in astonishment, understanding her concerns and nodding in agreement. “Mother, don’t worry. I know what to do.”
Although he wanted to say more, Madam Qing gestured for Qing Yukong to leave.
After leaving Madam Qing’s courtyard and returning to his study, Qing Yukong ordered an investigation into what Gu Xiruo had been up to in his absence, both inside and outside the household.
While Qing Yi and his men were looking into these matters, Gu Xiruo had already caused a commotion by breaking out with the household attendants, injuring the guards stationed outside the courtyard.
Upon receiving this news and rushing over, Qing Yukong found the guards on the ground, each with varying degrees of injuries.
“Who harmed you all?” Qing Yukong’s voice remained calm, but those familiar with him could sense his genuine anger this time.
“The one who hurt you is called Ming Ye, under Young Madam Qing.”
Ming Ye…
Qing Yukong remained silent, familiar with this individual.
A member of the Ming family, yet willing to follow Gu Xiruo.
It was akin to what had happened with Lu Lingfeng in the past.
His subordinates unconsciously tightened their grips. No wonder Gu Xiruo had been so fearless before.
Just the thought of Ming Ye frequently being by Gu Xiruo’s side made Qing Yukong feel like he had a lump in his throat, deeply uncomfortable.
“Go see the estate physician for treatment of your injuries. Each of you will receive an extra month’s pay this month,” Qing Yukong instructed the guards.
“Thank you, Young Master.”
After leaving the Qing family, Gu Xiruo and Ming Ye went straight back to the Gu family.
Ming Ye looked at Gu Xiruo and asked, “Aren’t you worried about Qing Yukong getting angry?”
Gu Xiruo snorted coldly, “What does his anger have to do with me? If he insists on making himself uncomfortable, how is that my concern?”
“As for that old woman, even if I made her faint from anger, what can he do?” Gu Xiruo said disdainfully.
She had simply made the woman faint, yet Qing Yukong had restricted her movements and even expected her to apologize to Madam Qing. It was simply wishful thinking.
Now, half of the Gu family’s assets are in Gu Xiruo’s hands, making her financially secure even without Qing Yukong’s help.
The possessions she currently holds are enough to live a carefree life; why bother about Qing Yukong’s mood?
Ming Ye frowned, looking at Gu Xiruo’s disapproval. “In that case, it’s better not to say such things. Madam Qing hasn’t done anything to you, and Qing Yukong has been good enough to you. Your actions are hurtful to them.”
Gu Xiruo is somewhat self-absorbed. If it weren’t for owing her a favor, Ming Ye wouldn’t have stayed by her side. With only a year left, once the time is up, he will leave directly.
Over the years, Ming Ye has done plenty to help Gu Xiruo in secret. Any debts of gratitude should have been repaid by now.
“Are you going to criticize me too, Ming Ye?” Gu Xiruo asked coldly, displeased with Ming Ye.
“It’s not about criticism, just that I think Qing Yukong is a good person. If you don’t cherish him, there may come a day when he doesn’t want you anymore. Don’t regret it,” Ming Ye responded, noting Qing Yukong’s recent display of genuine anger towards Gu Xiruo.
However, Gu Xiruo seemed oblivious to it all. “It doesn’t matter. There are plenty of people who like me. He’s just the young master of the Qing family,” she said nonchalantly.
Gu Xiruo completely disregarded Qing Yukong, her husband.
Ming Ye glanced at Gu Xiruo, seeing for the first time such a foolish woman.
While there are indeed many who like Gu Xiruo, finding someone who would unconditionally treat her well like Qing Yukong did would be impossible.
There was once Lu Lingfeng, but now that Lu Lingfeng has regained his senses and left Gu Xiruo, there is no one left to compare with Qing Yukong.
