Wang Jinhe wasn’t sure if he should call Qing Yukong foolish or devoted.
Lou Manqing nodded in agreement, “What does Qing Yukong really think of a woman like her?”
“Who knows,” Wang Jinhe shrugged.
Sometimes falling for someone defies all logic.
Regardless of your feelings, you might end up falling in love anyways.
Faced with all this, Wang Jinhe felt these individuals hadn’t found their true positions.
If Qing Yukong continues to treat Gu Xiruo this way, one day, she might end up causing his demise.
“Gu Xiruo indeed has some skills,” Lou Manqing couldn’t help but comment, thinking about the people surrounding Gu Xiruo.
Wang Jinhe chuckled and shook his head. Did he even know what he was saying?
“Why do you say that?”
“To make so many men abandon their dignity for her, I now think Lu Lingfeng was smart. When he realized his mistake, he immediately severed ties with Gu Xiruo,” Lou Manqing commented, rubbing his chin thoughtfully.
Wang Jinhe remained silent.
Lu Lingfeng’s quick withdrawal was due to his initial assistance to Gu Xiruo stemming from a debt of gratitude. Upon discovering his true benefactor, he naturally chose to break free from Gu Xiruo’s influence.
The difference between Qing Yukong and Lu Lingfeng lies in the fact that Qing Yukong holds Gu Xiruo in his heart, leading to some indecisiveness in handling these matters.
“Now that Qing Yukong knows a bit more about the real Gu Xiruo, I wonder what he will do next,” Wang Jinhe expressed his curiosity.
Upon Wang Jinhe’s remarks, Lou Manqing also began anticipating Qing Yukong’s future actions.
After leaving the Qing family, Gu Xiruo had no intention of returning.
Even if she were to return, she would require apologies from both Qing Yukong and Lady Qing before considering going back.
Upon her return to the Gu family, Gu Xiruo exhibited the same temper she had developed in the Qing family towards her own relatives, causing discontent among them.
Upon returning home, Gu Yanqi witnessed Gu Xiruo berating the household staff. He intervened to stop her from striking one of them.
Seeing Gu Yanqi, Gu Xiruo disdainfully sneered—it was merely a subordinate to her.
“Let go of me,” Gu Xiruo coldly demanded.
Observing Gu Xiruo, Gu Yanqi furrowed his brow slightly. “Gu Xiruo, if you want to show off your authority, do it back at the Qing family. This is not the place for your tantrums.”
In the past few days, he had already heard about Gu Xiruo’s behavior at home.
He initially thought that even if she was excessive, she wouldn’t go too far, but now she seemed to have escalated things further.
Gu Xiruo, with an unpleasant expression, glared at Gu Yanqi and angrily said, “This is also my home, Gu Yanqi. Are you going to drive me out?”
“If you dare to make me leave, my father will not spare you,” Gu Xiruo arrogantly retorted, looking at Gu Yanqi.
Hearing Gu Xiruo’s words, Gu Yanqi couldn’t help but chuckle.
“It seems you are still unaware of the situation in the Gu family,” Gu Yanqi remarked meaningfully, gazing at Gu Xiruo.
Frowning slightly, Gu Xiruo asked, “What are you talking about?”
What didn’t she know? What had happened?
Amused by Gu Xiruo’s puzzled expression, Gu Yanqi playfully stated, “Now I am the head of the Gu family, and everything is under my authority.”
Gu Xiruo, with a disbelieving look, gazed at Gu Yanqi and said with an unpleasant expression, “That’s impossible.”
Gu Sheng never mentioned this to her; how could this be happening?
Observing Gu Xiruo’s disbelief, Gu Yanqi suddenly found the situation quite amusing.
“Don’t think your words will make me believe this nonsense,” Gu Xiruo retorted, refusing to accept Gu Yanqi’s claims. It was all fabrications and lies from him.
Seeing Gu Xiruo delude herself, Gu Yanqi shook his head and remarked, “Do you really think you, an adopted daughter, can secure a foothold in the Gu family? Even if he gave you some things, you are not the heir of the Gu family.”
“And are you sure those things won’t bring you trouble? Why did Xiao He sever ties with him? Do you know all of this?” Gu Yanqi asked, looking at Gu Xiruo with a sly expression.
With that sentence, Gu Xiruo’s expression changed rapidly. She hurriedly left to find Gu Sheng; she needed to clarify things.
Hadn’t her father promised to help her become the head of the Gu family?
Why had the decision maker in the Gu family become Gu Yanqi now?
The steward by Gu Yanqi’s side frowned and said, “Young Master, Miss has completely changed since her return, displaying a much more arrogant demeanor.”
Previously, he had heard that Gu Xiruo had upset Madam Qing, and he had initially thought the news was mistaken. Now, it seemed to be a confirmed fact.
“Such a fool, clueless about being manipulated by Madam Qing,” Gu Yanqi sneered coldly.
The steward looked surprised and asked Gu Yanqi, “Young Master, what do you mean by that?”
“Madam Qing has been the mistress of the house for so many years; hasn’t she experienced all sorts of challenges? Even if she wouldn’t trouble Gu Xiruo for Qing Yukong’s sake, it doesn’t mean she should stand by and be bullied without a word,” Gu Yanqi explained.
The steward furrowed his brow, “Is Madam Qing pretending to be ill?”
Gu Yanqi shook his head, “She is genuinely ill, but her ultimate goal is to sow discord between Qing Yukong and Gu Xiruo.”
Having received news of Qing Yukong restricting Gu Xiruo, Gu Yanqi believed that if Gu Xiruo had some sense, she wouldn’t have run away from home but would have stayed, accepted the restrictions, and apologized to Madam Qing.
Only by behaving in this manner can Gu Xiruo hope to mend Qing Yukong’s heart. However, instead of behaving herself, she not only defied the restrictions but also injured the Qing family’s guards before returning to the Gu family.
She even threatened that unless Qing Yukong and Madam Qing came to apologize to her, she wouldn’t return.
Her actions have likely further angered Qing Yukong.
Madam Qing has achieved her desired outcome.
Following this, Qing Yukong might not be inclined to assist Gu Xiruo in her future endeavors.
“Ah, I see,” the steward nodded in understanding.
If Madam Qing’s goal was indeed this, then it all makes sense.
It appears this young lady truly holds herself in high regard.
“We’ll see. Once Gu Xiruo returns to the Qing family on her own, her status with Qing Yukong and in the Qing family may not be as lofty,” Gu Yanqi stated confidently.
“That’s good, so the young master won’t have to be on guard against Qing Yukong later on.”
Gu Yanqi remained silent. It was still necessary to be cautious, lest he end up being outmaneuvered without realizing it.
When Gu Xiruo found Gu Sheng, he was sitting in the courtyard, occupied with something.
“Father.”
Seeing Gu Xiruo, Gu Sheng smiled, “You’re here.”
“Father, Gu Yanqi claims he’s now in control of the Gu family. Is that true?” Gu Xiruo didn’t beat around the bush with Gu Sheng, sitting across from him and straightforwardly posing her question.
Gu Sheng seemed caught off guard by the purpose of Gu Xiruo’s visit.
Though somewhat uncomfortable, he nodded and admitted, “Indeed.”
This news came as a shock to Gu Xiruo, feeling like a bolt from the blue, “Why? How did this happen? When did he acquire this position?”
