Su Yu’s decision to return was not opposed by Su Jiu and the others. As the story neared its conclusion, even if Su Yu was absent, it wouldn’t matter much.
Just as Su Yu predicted, Lu Yixuan was now struggling to stay afloat, with no time to cause trouble for them. Provoking them would only lead to his own demise.
After packing up, Su Yu waited a few more days to ensure that Lu Empire wouldn’t cause any trouble before heading back with Luo Yan and Bai Qi.
Standing beside Su Jiu, the other generals shook their heads helplessly, remarking, “The prince is quite stubborn.”
“The prince indeed has remarkable abilities. Without him, we might not have easily conquered Qi Empire and gained the Mountain and Sea City,” the generals exclaimed happily.
Seeing their joy, Su Jiu chuckled and let them enjoy their moment.
“After ensuring everything is in order, we will head back. The plans we’ve set in motion will soon come to fruition. As for the matters concerning Xiao He, there should be progress as well,” Su Jiu said with a narrowed gaze.
Unable to buy food from the people of Xuan Empire and unable to grow high-yield crops in Lu Empire, they had no choice but to cooperate with Xuan Feiran from Xuan Empire.
However, their hopes will be dashed as Xiao He had never indicated any intention to cooperate with them.
Rubbing his chin, Su Jiu gazed outside, realizing they would soon be able to return.
As Su Yu hurried back with his group, Xiao He had already made arrangements on her end. Those from Lu Empire who needed to stay had done so, while a few individuals were still detained in the dungeons. Additionally, all the food they had purchased had been successfully retrieved.
This news was a relief to everyone.
“We’ve managed to recover the items. Should we interrogate the individuals brought back by Sister-in-law?” Luo Hou asked Wang Jinhe curiously.
Wang Jinhe nodded, “Yes, you and Nan Qiao can go together. See if you can extract any useful information from them.”
She had a feeling that Lu Empire’s clandestine activities in Xuan Empire likely extended beyond what they had uncovered.
Accompanied by Luo Hou, Nan Qiao went to the dungeons where the detained individuals started clamoring, “Who are you people? How dare you arrest us! We’ll report you to the authorities!”
Nan Qiao found their threats amusing, “Oh? You want to report us? Go ahead, try it. Let’s see if you’ll be able to.”
“A person from Lu Empire dares to threaten reporting to the authorities? How ridiculous,” Luo Hou remarked coldly.
Their faces changed completely upon hearing this, now eyeing Luo Hou and Nan Qiao warily, “Who are you really? What do you know?”
“I’m your grandpa,” Nan Qiao quipped, leaving Luo Hou baffled by his dark sense of humor.
“Do you even have such unworthy descendants?” Luo Hou raised an eyebrow, looking at Nan Qiao.
Nan Qiao glanced at the detained individuals, then shook his head after a moment, saying, “They’re too ugly to be my grandchildren.”
Seeing the frustrated expression on the other side, Luo Hou couldn’t help but chuckle, “Are you trying to make them explode in anger?”
“Not really. Someone who can pretend to be a merchant buying food in Xuan Empire isn’t easily enraged,” Nan Qiao replied calmly.
After hearing Nan Qiao’s words, he couldn’t help but smile at the almost infuriated individuals, saying, “Let’s focus on the task at hand.”
“Agreed.”
During the interrogation, each individual proved to be stubborn, but Nan Qiao, losing his patience, resorted to using a drug that eventually loosened their tongues, extracting all the information he needed.
Furrowing his brows slightly as he listened to their revelations, Nan Qiao remarked, “Luo Hou, it seems that Lu Yixuan is quite cunning.”
“Isn’t one of Brother Yu’s underlings defeated?” Luo Hou scoffed.
Nan Qiao nodded with a smile, “You’re right. But still, brother Yu is the most formidable. Let’s go see Uncle.”
This matter was somewhat related to Yu Jingchuan.
“Alright.”
Together, they went to find Yu Jingchuan, and upon seeing him, Nan Qiao couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous instinctively.
“Why do you both have time to come see me today?” Yu Jingchuan asked in surprise.
Given that Nan Qiao had always fled from the Yu family once they knew his abilities, it was indeed unexpected for him to show up today seeking an audience with Yu Jingchuan.
“We have something to discuss with Uncle,” Nan Qiao replied.
Yu Jingchuan gestured for those around him to leave before turning to Nan Qiao, “Sit down and talk.”
Nan Qiao relayed the information they had just obtained to Yu Jingchuan. After hearing it, Yu Jingchuan’s gaze turned slightly cold, “So, they are individuals connected to Lu Yixuan. The Yu Family has hidden depths indeed.”
If they hadn’t directly targeted the Yu family, Lu Yixuan could have easily obtained the food he needed without the need for intermediaries, utilizing the Yu family’s assistance.
In an unexpected turn of events, they had sorted out a tricky situation.
“Uncle, be careful with what comes next, don’t let anyone outmaneuver you.”
“Do I look that easy to manipulate?” Yu Jingchuan chuckled, looking at Nan Qiao and the others, teasingly asking.
After a moment of contemplation, Nan Qiao shook her head, “It’s not that you are easy to manipulate, but rather that your desire for revenge might cloud your judgment. Avoid making mistakes driven by hatred.”
Yu Jingchuan looked at Nan Qiao and the others, feeling somewhat amused. When did it become a child’s role to remind him of such matters?
“I have things under control, no need to worry,” Yu Jingchuan reassured the younger generation who cared about him, still holding a fondness for them.
Having spent time together, he wouldn’t continue treating them with that cold demeanor. It wouldn’t be right to do so with these two youngsters.
“That’s good. Let’s go find Sister-in-law then,” Nan Qiao replied.
As the two youngsters left, Yu Qingfeng spoke up, “Lu Empire’s ambitions are indeed strong, starting their schemes over twenty years ago and continuing until now.”
This country truly stops at nothing.
Yu Jingchuan nodded in agreement, “However, seeking revenge against enemies in Lu Empire might prove to be quite challenging for us.”
Yu Qingfeng spoke coldly, “We just need to proceed cautiously. As for the rest, there’s no need to worry. After all, the people from Lu Empire may come after us as well.”
Yu Jingchuan paused for a moment, then chuckled.
Indeed, people from Lu Empire would likely come.
After all, everyone would desire the high-yield crops in Xiao He’s possession.
Rubbing his chin, Yu Jingchuan remarked, “It seems we need to start preparing as well. We can’t allow Xiao He to be bullied in the future.”
“Indeed,” Yu Qingfeng agreed.
The two brothers shared a smile, their unspoken understanding allowing them to comprehend each other’s intentions without needing to voice them.
Soon after Su Yu’s departure, Lu Empire, due to unrest among its people, chose to prioritize pacifying them first. Other matters would have to be considered at a later time.
After learning that Lu Empire couldn’t take action against Xuan Empire, Su Jiu and his group departed from the border directly, returning triumphantly to the capital.
Xuan Feiran soon received news of their victorious return.
Officials in the court were pleased to hear about the capture of the Mountain and Sea City.
Some were joyous, while others were filled with worry.
On the fifth day after receiving the news, Su Yu returned ahead of everyone else, surprising many by his sudden return to the capital.
